Julie Andrews is underrated for her physical comedy, so fantastic.

Even Julies tea spoon tinkering is musical while Carol's is FLAT. LOL! 1:53 min mark. sigh. they have so many details in this scene!

A classic sketch, and a clear homage to Laurel & Hardy's many "tit for tat" routines that always followed the same rules (you wait passively for the other person to complete his/her physical insult before responding, while your opponent also waits passively for you to finish in the same way).

While Julie almost breaks, it's impressive that they don't burst out laughing. True comedic talents! Thank you for uploading this fun sketch.

This is a treasure. Julie Andrews' pink dress reminds me of Glinda's dress from the Wizard of Oz (Judy Garland version)!! 😍

I love how, instead of Julie and Carol's cultural differences proving to be an obstacle in their friendship as generally occurs, proved to make them an even more wholesome pair, playing off each other and making fun without getting offended. This is a good representation of friendship. No matter how many times they go back and forth, in the end (11:29) Julie willingly smashes the cake on her head and they are friends again.

Julie doesn’t really believe in this, it’s scripted. She’s not really a colonialist apologist, only in this sketch.
@preetakumar6593 Жыл бұрын
@@DeepScreenAnalysis Of course she doesn't. I'm saying it made them a terrific comedic pair, as the goofy American and the uptight Britisher.

How come they don't break character and laugh???? It's impossible!!! Seriously, I love both and it seems when they were together they just brought their best game to each other.

You can actually see Julie fighting a smile when she splats cream on Carol's chest.

Julie and Carol were so much a part of my growing up years. I loved them then and I still do. I saw Julie in person in 1993. My Mom, Grandmother and I were supposed to go to a Melissa Manchester concert and we had what we called the no name storm. It basically was a hurricane in March. Severe weather that closed bridges. We could not get there. I called and they said she performed so we could not get a refund. Mom and Grandmother were not interested in trying again. I ended up with 3 tickets and had only five months to use them. I chose Julie, Natalie Cole who was promoting the album she made of her Father's songs, and then I got stuck. Then I saw that 96 year old George Burns was scheduled. I like to see legends so I chose him. He puffed away on his cigar and was very entertaining. I still have never seen Melissa Manchester live, but I did see Ella Fitzgerald, Vanessa Redgrave, Angela Lansbury, and James Earl Jones as well as the Dalai Llama. Can't forget Pavarotti, Domingo, Fleming, Jessye Norman and Kiri Te Kanawa among others. Phoebe Snow was great also RIP

So I just stumbled upon the Momma Rap these two did in 1989 on Facebook today and enjoyed it, so I decided to check out more of their stuff. I am a 90s kid, so I only knew these two by name, but this was true simple but genuine humor. Love it.
This is so funny. I really had a difficult day today but now I'm smiling. Thank you.

I think in the sketch Carol is the one who gets more messy ( 7:30 to 8:26) because she, as a comedienne, had and would have been more willing to have all that cream on her face and in her hair than Julie, who was a bit more regal and wasn't as experienced in messy comedy as Carol was.
@AlanCanon2222 Жыл бұрын
Maybe, but I bet may have both decided it'd better meet audience expectations. I know the pair were thick as thieves, but, as I'm watching, I'm thinking, "Holy sh*t, that's Maria von Trapp! I don't want her to get too dirty!"
