Hi Sven is there a chance that you make a “proper chords to la Gitane” video ?

@@SvenJungbeck wahoeeeee .. I am 54 years old and just started playing Gypsy jazz for a few years. Autodidact drummer and know hardly nothing about music theorie .. I play in a gypsy jazz trio now and we play the la gitane version of Angelo De Barre .. learning and trying to find out how to play certain songs is so difficult for me 😤 I really apreciate it if you do this for me 😎. I will pay my respect in the form of some money on your paypal acount 😘

You might already know of them, but if not youd love Marbin. They came out with a gypsy jazz album this year called Fernweh and it's all gypsy jazz standards. Check out their Swing Gitane kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3WylpJjj850pdU

one question - i never see play the m7/5- chord with the thumb on E string and "Aminor" shape for D-g-b strings , is there some practical reasoning for this that I as a beginner don"t see yet? otherwise perfect! the tune that got me into the style.. as I come from the "classical guitar" school with very orthodox teacher, the thumb playing is very unnatural and I'm really having difficulties learning that..
@SvenJungbeck3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thumb fretting generates a relaxed handposition with little effort, which can be very useful when playing long rhythm guitar parts at high paces. Of course the bar technique is essential as well, but it is simply not true, that fretting with the thumb is unnatural or something. Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, John Mayer, Pat Metheny, Tuck Andres, Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel.... all use(d) thumb fretting and can of course perfectly fret with the bar technique. Depends on situation. As a professional you learn to play whatever you play with a minimum of strength and effort. Of course Flamenco and classical guitarists don't do that, the neck is wider and it's not rooted in it's tradition. Greetz, Sven

@@SvenJungbeck Thank you vor the explanation. In Austrians folkmusic, there are guitarists using their thump in the same ways too.
