That is thin high density stuff , it will transmit the heat. The shiny foil is good at reflecting radiant heat. which you don't find inside the car. In hot climates you need thick insulation like a layer of closed cell foam. Specially on firewall.

Depending on the product, it's basically rubber with reflective mylar and high temp adhesive. Some use close cell foam for added insulation.
