Wonder about choji oil that we use on our Katana’s? Havnt had years of experience with it but they say it works and has for years…Plus if you use the kit you get the powder to help soak up old oil and to clean the blades…They say the Choji oil helps with keeping wooden scabbards from drying out.. I don’t know 🤷♂️ just my two cents..😊

WD-40 for cleaning. 3-IN-1 Oil for protection. Never-Dull for polishing and/or spot removal. I own Japanese blades, and live on the North Oregon Coast. Thanks for the share!!

Tend to keep them in their scabbard... but then, I'll probably pick them up at least once per week to do a crappy HEMA drilling sessions (as much as the limited space in my apartment allows me to while clubs are closed)
@MattsGreatHall3 жыл бұрын
How does that work--you practice HEMA by yourself? If so, I admire your work ethic! The last time I "practiced" swinging anything dangerous indoors, I accidentally demolished a beautiful ceramic bowl that belonged to my wife. Only moments before that happened, I assured her I wouldn't hurt anything. She hasn't forgiven me, lol.

@@MattsGreatHall Aye, by myself, veeeery controlled drills so I won't rust that much myself while not destroying the apartment. Normally I wait for my gf to go to bed, then I move the table out of the way and do perhaps 20 or 30 minutes

This was a great video! I actually have a Darksword Armory sword that I made a scabbard out of poplar boards with, too, and it’s been in the scabbard since late December of last year and no rust on the blade. I used Renaissance wax on the blade, guard and pommel as my experience with it is very good and I have no rust.
@MattsGreatHall3 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard good things about Renaissance Wax. I’ll have to test it out. Great to hear that your blade was rust-free!

But you forgot a point, how do you remove old grease/dried oil, on your blade, before to oil it again ?
@MattsGreatHall3 жыл бұрын
Great point! Mineral spirits/paint thinner if you can't get get it off with the Scotch-Brite pads.

Some people just say use Rem oil for guns but that hasn’t had hundreds of of years of testing on fine weapons

Use baby oil on mine, now every time there are visits my mom just asks me to swing the sword around the living room before the guests arrive...
