I’m a union plumber in the central vally located in the lovely city of Fresno ca lol. Everything you demonstrated was excellent except! It is a absolute must that when you install a check valve you halve to install a expansion tank. Absolute must! UPC code! Outher than that, you broke it down better than anyone I know ever has!! Great job brother!!

Thank you so much for explaining how to do this correctly! You are a great teacher!

You have no idea how many times I have not seen check valves installed in a recirc loop. Great video! I'd recommend an expansion tank after the first check valve but the way you explained it is much better than the majority.

Exelente informacion paisano ! I just recommend installing an expansion tank right after the first check valve, and make sure is well supported. Thanks very much for your information.

There's atleast three things missing on this installation. 1. No expansion tank. A water heater in a closed system is always a welcomed scenario for an expansion tank. Here it would be even MORE welcomed than usual. You have far more fittings involved than usual and all fittings are future homes for leaks. You have a costly pump that would not fair well with high pressure spikes. And last but not least, typically the only check valve in a home in at the water meter. When thermal expansion occurs the entire water system takes the force together. But of course an expansion tank can take the force all on its own. But in this recirc system with the two check valves this is a very small closed water circuit and thermal expansion can thrive and wreak havoc. An expansion tank is no longer optional in this case, it's a necessity. 2. The pop-off valve isn't plumbed away from the top of the heater and to an approved position. This is required by code. 3. Unions aren't installed at the hot and cold connections. These are required by code. Bonus point: If a person is to install a recirc system the entire battle they are fighting is against the hot water lines cooling off. So it's a no-brainer to install pipe insulation on all hot water lines INCLUDING the recirc return line. I understand perhaps the insulation was going to be installed after this video. It's sure easier to show what is going on without it installed yet. For that matter the pop-off may be the same story. But the ball was dropped on not having an expansion tank and unions installed. Thanks for reading, I hope this helps someone.

Not sure what you mean by "3". Where is he missing unions exactly. Not being argumentative. I'm trying to educate myself so that I can properly install a system like this. Also, does the expansion tank go on the cold line feeding the water heater? If so, where? Before the ball valve, before the spring check valve, or after the spring check valve?

Is it ok for the hot water to exhaust into the cold intake? What happens if the pump is too powerful or too weak? Is there a certain HP or GPM rating the pump needs?

At 2:33, so you're saying it's alright to do a 1/2" return on your dedicated recirc line but as long as it stubs out to 3/4" you're fine?

thanks! my plumber did not install check valves and cold supply is running hot water for couple of minutes, would not those two check valves require expansion tank somewhere?

I installed a Watts recirculating pump on my water heater. I installed the Hot Water Recirculating System Sensor Valve Kit under the bathroom sink which I believe it's the furthest from the water heater. When the pump is on, the cold water at that sink is warm not cold. It's the only faucet that does that. I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

what about a purge valve, most recirc pumps jam when air lock

Una pregunta , por qué el circulador de agua va conectado a la agua fría y no va a la caliente ???? Si es que lo que tienes que circular es el agua caliente no la fría ??????
@albertosipuma9920 Жыл бұрын
Le faltó comentar que solo cuando existe línea de retorno. Por eso. Es correcto la conexión amigo.

¡Muchas gracias! At last a very clear and correct video on how to install a hot water recirculation loop. Just one question though: here in the EU the hot water at the sink or shower needs to be at a minimum of 60 degrees C (to prevent legionella bacteria in the hot water). So the temperature at the return just before the pump should be also preferably > 60*C. Did you install a thermometer at the return or elsewhere to check on the temperature of your hot water recirculation system? Kind regards from Spain.

I wouldn't hook up a water heater with rigid pipe. makes it more difficult to switch out the tank. also unions on either side of the pump is the way to go unless there is flanges.

Where would you add an expansion tank in this system?
@MeIn3215 жыл бұрын
That last 90 on the cold side needs a tee pointing up. There you can put the expansion tank.

Para mi todo está correcto la conexión pero en lo que estoy en duda es que si dejo el agua fría conectada en el circulador de agua lo que saldrá es agua fría instantáneamente no el agua caliente
