We use a great product called 'Wet n Forget'. You can spray it on to freshly cleaned surfaces, and they stay clean for an unbelievable amount of time afterwards. Alternatively, you can apply it to dirty surfaces and watch it gradually clean them over a few months. The difference that it makes under both scenarios really is outstanding. Actually, it would make a good short video. Spray an area, leave it, then come back to it a few months later. I think that you will be surprised and it doesn't have the downsides of bleach.

Algon, which is basically vinegar, is a more pet safe alternative to the SH, but takes weeks to work. Best used as a protective agent rather than a cleaner imho. Have found diluted supermarket bleach to be absolutely fine and also pet safe if VERY thoroughly rinsed and pets kept off for a while. So, you bleach it, then use the patio lance. Better than patio lance alone if staining is severe, say you haven't cleaned it for a few years. Otherwise, just use the patio lance and save your self the bother of mucking around with chemicals and worrying about whether you will poison the local wildlife or kill your plants . Wet and forget and similar fungicides are very much cat-unsafe, so don't use these.

Another advantage of the rotating head patio cleaner and actually a bonus compared to the lance is for those people with decking. The lance can be too powerful and actually make your decking furry with tiny raised wood splinters. The patio cleaner heads don't do this.

@Proper DIY - when you used the head you didn’t rinse the patio down afterwards. A trick you can use is to lift the head about 4 inches off the ground and rotate the head to 45 degrees and you can use it to quickly wash away all of the material you have just loosened. Much quicker than using the standard pressure washer lance to clean it up afterwards. Doing this method means you can wash the debris away as you go along.

A far more environmentally friendly, yet very effective, cleaner is sodium percarbonate. It comes in powder form, and when added to waterbreaks down to hydrogen peroxide and sodium bicarbonate. The peroxide cleans and sterilises, and the sodium bicarbonate increases the pH to prevent mold. It's the active ingredient in "oxygen bleach" laundry boosters. The 100% concentration powder you'd need is sold by home brewing companies because it's used to sterilise equipment used in home brewing. I don't like sodium hypochlorite because it leaves chlorine in the soil. Sodium percarbonate just leaves sodium bicarbonate bicarbonate which is non-toxic. If you watch Partidge Exterior Cleaning's videos, Sid uses a LOT of PPE when he's using hypo.....including a respirator (mask).

Most of the professionals who clean drives & patios use a combination of all 3 methods to do the job. They use the turbo nozzle for the edging and hard to reach areas. Surface cleaner for large areas. Then they finish off with the bleach spray for that final pop. So I wouldn't just use one method.

I always thought the patio cleaners were a bit of a gimmick compared to doing it "properly" with a lance head, however my latest pressure washer came with one as part of the bundle of bits and I am a convert. Does it a do as good a job as a lance? No, but it is so much faster and much less messy that I don't mind. Even if you do a perfect job on your patio it's going to get green and mucky by the next season anyway, so why waste your time trying to do a perfect job when you can get 90% of the way there in a fraction of the time. A tip for anyone who is annoyed by transition lines (I'm not, but some might be). Do you your corners and awkward areas with the lance first, then use the patio head, you can then blend the transition line together by spending a little more time with the patio head in those areas and run a bit quicker over the bulk of the patio. Will save you a lot of time on a big patio.

I have been using these patio cleaners for around 15 years now. They proved to be the go-to tool for my patios, however, they have their limits, moss would be one of them. You also need to have a proper-sized pressure washer, mine is 140 bars and 500 liters per hour, and you can really tell the difference from the 100 bar one I had before. Spins really fast, you can pass it over the surface a lot quicker, and it gets a good result after the first pass. Not too fond of chlorine or chemicals, as I get asthma quite easily from their awful smell, and I don't want to damage my beautiful lawn.

No jet kits I'm assuming it was fitted with the correct jets for the K2 pressure washer that was in the kit. It works really well but the only thing I don't like about it is that the head is too light and it takes a lot of wrist strength to keep it down. I fixed this but adding a lead weight to the head (a piece of old lead pipe worked into a ring that I just dropped over the extension tube that sits on the head) and this has made it perfect for me.

You should have added a surfactant, it’s a foaming agent that allows the SH to sit on the uneven surface for longer, I use a car wash foam gun. You also can’t let SH dry as it stops working. The issue you’re having with the leaking is the solution corroding the sprayer, it is quite brutal. You need to wash the sprayer out many times after use. You also need to tell people to pre water grass and flowers so it doesn’t ruin them.

Another thing about sodium hypochlorite, as it is a strong oxidizer (that's why it works) it will also damage metal surfaces. Even stainless can be discolored and corroded. And a place which you might not immediately consider, some stones have a high iron concentration, and thus might also discolor from its usage.

is this "sodium"material bad for marble or limestone?
@tHaH4x0r6 ай бұрын
@@pseftis21 As far as I know yes, as they both contain calcium carbonate, which react to form calcium hydroxide under alkaline conditions. Note that many website say this is because bleach is 'a harsh acidic cleaner', but this is just blatantly false. It is slightly alkaline. If you do want to try, try and apply it in an inconspicuous spot and see if it leaves traces. But better yet, just go for regular (biodegradable) soap and a power clean. Much safer and likely also a more clean approach. In general when cleaning, it is advisable to use the least harsh chemical/cleaning agent possible to get the job done. Least risk for both whatever you clean, your health and the environments health.

Wet and Forget is by far the best patio cleaner, but don't expect it to work overnight, over a week or over a month. It works over months. The green algae is dealt with over the first week. The Black lichen takes longer much longer, the progress can't be seen day to day but over a couple of months and there it is the black lichen starts to fade. Obviously before you start clean off all the loose dirt with water and a broom. Using a pressure washer pits your paving stones and creates more crevices where black lichen grows. So apply "wet & Forget" in March and September and your patios and paths will remain algae and lichen free.
