As a husky owner myself, sixty formula is absolutely correct on everything, never trust a husky alone without supervision no matter how confident you are. Crate training is the absolute best thing you can do for yourself and your pup.

And yet, I've always been able to trust my husky. He's what some people call a "unicorn husky." Mika is quiet, respectful, responsive, acknowledges my alpha status, is non destructive, and has never run away in over seven years. He's never chewed anything that is not his & he never ripped anything apart, even as a puppy. He doesn't get in the garbage. He doesn't counter surf. He doesn't take or eat anything without permission, I have no tunnels in my yard, and my garden is unmolested.

My husky loves her crate! Always made sure to make it a positive experience when we rescued and started crate training her. Surprisingly, she took to it right away. We moved to a new home and I could tell she was looking for it and was super happy when we unpacked it. Now she crates herself. 😸

I kept hers in the tv common room, started her for a few minutes at a time and I would go into the garage. Extended the times to longer and longer, sometimes running the garage door opener or driving around the block to get her used to the sounds. And yes, I bribed her with bits of Pupperoni (she loved those). She knew I had them in my hand and I would just point to the crate door but she wouldn't get the treat unless she went in. Only took a couple weeks until she got comfortable with the routine. Couple months in and I could leave the door open and she used it like her room, chilling when I was watching tv or going to work. Smartest dog I've ever had.

All dogs do NOT love their crates. That's why 99% of the time it takes training. When wolves are in den or cave lol. They are almost NEVER alone or separated from the pack unless they are sick and dying or having pups. I appreciate what you are saying. However it's become a idea parroted by people without any real knowledge or based on the couple dogs they have had. Not based on real science. So is crate training good? Yes. Is it natural 100% NO.

@@Changemymind1 My older dog (Meremma/Shepherd) is 50/50 with his crate.. it is his safe space but does not need to be crated & only did for a very short time as a pup.. I do not know if its just his temperament/personality or because of his quite high intellect. However.. our new little miss husky mix MUST be crated & I do not know if this will ever change.. we shall see.. but she is taking to it well.. And the big guy & the cat also enjoy it when she's in her crate! lol

So the crate your adult huskies stay in for a couple of hours is the same crate you trained them to spend the night when they were puppies, correct? How were your first nights with them (you know, howling, crying, potty time in the middle of the night, etc)? It would be great to see a vid with all your tips about the whole crate training process, from puppyhood to adulthood :) Thanks!

This works for any dog! My Weimaraner is so smart and screams and howls but eventually calms down. We are working on crate training. It’s a process … we are getting there. We have a Ruffland kennel with doors on the front and back. It is an awesome crate for a Weimaraner. She can’t get out of it. It’s all plastic ( not a cheap crate) and no sharp metal pieces for her to get caught up on. Go check it out! $$$ but so worth it.

I really agree with this. My husky has her own room. We have a mudroom that is rather large and there's nothing in it except closet. So that's where we keep her food/water, litterbox, toybox.. she knows if she's bad, she goes to her room or if we leave, she goes to her room. There's just a baby gate in the door way, that way if someone did break into the house she wouldn't be stuck in a crate. And she has more room to lay/play while we are gone. She is super house trained and has no issue. But we did crate train her when she was a pup, so when we travel and take her with us we bring her crate too, and she doesn't mind.

When we got our first Husky we went to Petco (Where the pets go) and we got large plastic crate. We got some cardboard and blocked off the back of the crate to make it smaller for our 8 week old puppy. The plastic crates have some advantages over the wire crates. 1, Easy to hose out. 2, Its dark in there. They sell covers for wire crates, not needed for a plastic crate. 3. Can be used for travel. We travel 2000 miles every summer. We put the crate in the back of our Jeep and the dog is safe in there, like when we hit a deer 2 years ago. We also take it to the pet boarding place we use. We don't call it a crate. We call it his "den". I say "get in you den," He likes it. It is his safe place.

I really like your videos! Thanks for the great tips. We got a husky puppy two weeks ago and so currently of course housetraining is topic number 1. in connection with the crate training I now have the following question: how do you have to do this with a puppy? Just put him in the crate and wait until he stops screaming, then let him out and praise him? When did he stop screaming: When he is quiet, or when he lies down and sleeps? How do you have to do it at night? Because the dog also has to go out. Just set an alarm and let him out every two hours, then straight back into the crate? Our puppy has a hard time calming himself down. I think he would scream extremely loud if we put him back in when we get home at night. Since we live in a rented apartment, this could cause problems. Would you have a tip for us?

We have three large 5x5 meter kennels in the garden for when er need to split the dogs, and have our own homemade crates where they can enter and exit them on their own. But mainly we let them walk loose in the house and at night as the pack order keeps them in check. (16 huskies will do that)

I have a new puppy husky but he is big, just turning 8 mos. old. He is a hand full I bought him from Pawrade and he was delivered by a transport company. He was very afraid and timid. He's afraid of everything. I think he was mistreated by a male not sure if it was from the breeder or who but it's a real challenge we are trying to get him to trust us as a family. He's slowly coming along with the trust. Crate training is good now and potty training is good. I just watched your video on how to show them who is Alfa male and I tried the holding his mouth nose gently for a few seconds, he won't let me touch him by his thigh hip area yet but I will keep trying. A couple of other tips with regards to crates, inclose the back and sides with a old sheet as they feel that its a secure area for them (especially when there scared IE on the 5th of November). Put a old worn sweat shirt in the cage ( the more smell of yourself the better) - on a side note, a female husky would prefure a item of clothing from the dominant male in the household where a male husky would prefure the smell from the dominant female human in the home.

@sixtyformula How do I get my two Huskies to stop wrestling on walks? I want to be able to walk both of them together. What do you suggest because it's super embarrassing and frustrating when you are on a time crunch?

Very helpful, thank you so much! The first night my doggo was home he wouldn’t. Stop. Screaming! It was driving me insane, and after an hour I had to let him out. Thanks for this video, I left him again in his crate with treats and space, and he actually stopped whining after half an hour. Hopefully he’ll begin becoming more comfortable with the crate and enter it on his own accord, but I’ll enjoy the small victory I achieved last night lol.

Your huskies are beautiful! My two are slightly crate trained, they know when I say “ house “ to go into theirs and they are fine when it’s bedtime and when they hear the front door when we leave. But when we put them inside while we ARE home, they get loud! Any tips to make them feel more comfortable being inside their crates while we’re in the house?

Hi SixtyFormula, My Husky responds to the "crate" command but only when I have a treat in my hand. Any tip to make him respond without the treat? Thanks Bruh!

Hello... I love your video, but you forgot to mention if you leave the husky inside of the Kenner with the door lucked or the door open... I love the way their are obedient to your commands...

Hi dude this is Jessica I just wanted to let you know when I used to create training I used to say bedroom or room because if that was their light their house or almost like something like them using it for themselves word keep themselves safe it was something for them to understand that that's what they need to do for their don't talk to know that it was OK to go in there in the rooms or in their crate Thank you

Hi - we just adopted 1 yr old saluki/husky mix. We are starting from scratch for training. Is there an order of things we should teach him? recommended order for your videos? All is new to him including his name. He is nice tempermant, confident and high energy so we want to keep him out of trouble and exercised while we work on theses skills.. Advice is welcome!!

Question. How long should u leave them in there when u are first training them from pups. Like what is the starting time. Should u work ur way up eventually? Is starting with a half hour while u go to the store ok or do they need to see you at first

I got lucky and my Rescue Husky, Rocky Rogue loves his crate. We have had him a month now and I am very thankful it was a smooth transition. Now if I could just get him to cease pulling my arm off while walking....work in progress lol

Just an idea...everybody laughed at me, but honesltly it has been working for us. I bought a bike leash that hooks to her harness and put a regular leash on her collar and hold that lightly. As i bike ride she loves running. She runs on the side walk and then we go around cars n mail boxes like nothin. She also understands she needs to slow down and stop at the innersection. I say go n she takes off. Another + it's trimming her nails so I save money and my husky from getting stressed out. My boyfriend says she took to naturally. Took 10 min going around in circles not letting her get in front of the bike. After every circle she got a meaty treat. There are you tube videos on it as well. Good luck!!🐺😊

@@katrinamarrujo5706 thanks for the tip. He likes to pull suddenly after other dogs until I've gotten him over that I don't want to take him on a bike just yet. If you have an leash suggestions that would be great as he has already broken one in a month.

You gotta keep him really close to you when you take him for walks the first few weeks, like by your side close, keep the slack in the leash short, don't give him too much free leash, once he gets used to walking at your pace you give him a little more and a little more as he gets more and more used to walking at your pace

We adopted an 11 month old husky/shepherd mix from the shelter. It's only been 4 days so far and we have been working on crate training him. We had to go to work so he was in the spare bedroom where he sleeps, in his kennel, and I came home 2 hours later and he had escaped the wire kennel. It was really discouraging

Hello dude hope you're having a great day. So here I am after a year from the video 😁... I'm getting my first Husky this next Monday & I'm taking your advice to immediately start crate training but i have a couple of questions. So first you mentioned that if I put him in his crate everyday at the same time at night and take him out at the same time in the morning he will get used to it faster. So does this mean that i only have to take him in and out at night and in the morning? Or do I have to do crate training during the day also? #2 I'm planning to take him to my workshop with me during the day since I spent most of the day there like from 8-9am to 6-7pm so do I have to crate train him there also? Or only at home? & Thank you in advance 😊. BTW your channel is absolutely amazing i love how you do what you do you have a unique and fun way to introduce your content that it's actually enjoyable to watch every single video you make at least I don't feel like im hearing a lecture 😅 and they are absolutely on point I can tell before even trying your tips with my dogo (since I don't have him yet 😅) great job dude keep up this fantastic work 👍🏻.

Sixty Formula, I wish I could pm you but it seems I can not, if you respond to you videos....fantabulous. I am a first time husky owner. I've done much research prior to wanting to commit. Loki is 10 weeks, I was given a kennel for him from my dad, started to "kennel" train and things have been going well. Would you recommend a crate or can a kennel still be just as effective? Thanks in advance

I picked a winner. Brought him home at 9 weeks old. Never cried, got straight into playing with my other dog. Put him in a crate for sleep time and he just curls up and sleep for an hour. Get him out, straight outside for pee, play and repeat. Cant believe how lucky I am. He goes in at 10pm and up at 6am. He does do a pee in his crate at night but not on his blanket but the paper on the other side. Not sure how people would go if they had to leave for work. I work from home so I can monitor him.
