Guys, this video is magic! I had made the mistake of putting my puppy's crate in the bedroom with me for 10 days after he arrived. The only thing I managed to accomplish was to have him sit down quietly for me to open the door. I tried to put him in the living room twice and it was hell. Then I watched this video and did everything in it. Literally everything. And it worked like a charm. My pup goes into night for his naps and the night without any complaints and stays there for hours at a time without so much as a peep. He will only cry when he really has to go potty. So guys - DO. NOT. HALF. ASS. IT. Do it all, it works!

Took our 8wk puppy home a week ago. He wasn't willfully going into his crate, but would stay in if he was sleepy and I carried him in. However the evenings have been a different story! He would fall asleep, but if I even tried to leave the room he would wake up and cry, bark, whine and whatever else came out of his mouth. I'd take him to potty or lay next to the crate. Then sneak away again and he would cry again. Finally watched this video. Covered the entire crate except the side facing the wall. He whined a tiny bit, but has now been asleep for almost 2hours. Thank you for this video! I'm also doing the high value treat training!

My 11 week old golden retriever pup has been doing awesome and so glad I watched so many videos before bringing him home. I slept next to his crate the first night, then moved farther away to the couch. On day 3 I was in my bed and he farther away in his crate in the kitchen. Since then he's been doing great in the crate and napping there about 3 times per day. It's night time that has suddenly changed. He goes to bed and was sleeping well through the night...9:30 or 10:00pm til about 6:00am or later. All of a sudden, he's waking earlier, like 4:30 and 5:30am. Have tried to let him cry it out and settle but with a working hubby and school kids, that's been a bit difficult. I've resorted to taking him out to potty and lying with him on the couch for another hour of sleep for the both of us. I'm certain I'm breaking some rules here but not sure what else to do. Hate to complain as he's sleeping so good as it is. Thinking maybe I need to keep him up longer or play with him right before bed like you said. That's all I can think of. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a link for the exact song that puts her to sleep? As for keeping her from barking in your yard, I suggest a few tracks from a little known band called NWA. You need really big woffers to play the music loud enough to drown out the sound of the dog barking, but it works. Your neighbors will love it too as they are serenaded by this fine band with the wall shaking bass instead of the dog barking. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

After 5 desperate months of waiting I’m finally getting my puppy in a week
@destiny.shantelle7 ай бұрын
Day 4 as a doodle mom. On Day 1, I tried to let her sleep in the bed with me but she’s so tiny. Literally 2lbs! I was scared that I was gonna crush her or she’d fall behind my backboard or fall off of the bed since she cant jump yet. My instincts kept waking me up in the middle of the night to make sure she was safe. I ended up just starting to put her in the crate to sleep. She’d cry but eventually get over it & sleep the whole night. But today, I felt like the crying was longer and felt bad because the crate seemed like the only logical option for now. I thought her cries were “sad cries”. Maybe it is but I took your advice about covering the whole crate instead of the back and she instantly stopped crying!! I was even able to get up a few times without “waking her” and causing the crying again. You were spot on about the doggie FOMO! I too need a small confined space for when im overstimulated 😂

We love that you're using the crate! This will really help her learn to be independent, it will help strengthen her bladder and also help her get necessary naps for a growing puppy brain!

We have had a few problems with our pup - mainly because we didn't get her until she was 13 weeks old - after she'd spent 5 weeks with another family that didn't work out for her. Luckily, they'd crate trained her. The best tip we got to get her through the night was the suggestion to put a blanket over the crate: or 'budgie-ing' her, as we called it! This really worked a treat. I've had her 5 weeks now, and she sleeps through the night in her crate. I've left the crate open during the day, so she can retreat there if she wishes -and she has done this occasionally. However, after watching this, I will make an effort to put her in with some high value treats during the day too - so she can get more accustomed to being left during the daytime. At the moment she barks and whines if she's left alone (even for me to go to the loo!). I've started that regime today!

My 6 week old pup just got her crate today ( day 2 ) and I was trying to introduce it slowly all day with in and out. Played, ate and drunk, went out to potty 1hour before bed. Then bedtime came and she peed on the blanket placed in the crate. (My mistake) idk if she then did not see the crate as a sleeping place after the accident, but I took the bed out, put her inside and she cried loudly for like 30 mins. I felt so bad. Then I did the cover trick and the wimpier slowed, then faded in 10mins. I am shook!! And so very grateful!!

As a human we assume dogs need things like blankets, beds and pillows in their crate but this can actually be more of a harm than a comfort to them, especially before the teething stage. Dogs also run hotter than humans.

@mikej94704 жыл бұрын
Walk away. He will sort things out himself. It may take a few hours of sounds like you are beating a baby seal to death, but then he will accept it. You could also close the door, say "Let's close the door", and when you do, give him a treat. He will realise closing the door equals a treat and love it. Want to skip the hours of misery? Use part of an Oreo for the treat. I taught my pup to drive a stick shift with Oreos. I don't know how he reaches the clutch, but he drives me to the bar every morning....uh, I mean once a month at night for only one drink. And I do know that lady that I just introduced myself to, gave cash to, and leaving to go to her car for a blissful minute and a half.

It is definitely possible to work full time when you have a puppy, but the first few months might take some creative problem solving on your part! As you can see from the sample schedule in the New Puppy Starter Kit, puppies have a lot of needs! Puppies can hold their bladder approximately an hour per month of age, so you’ll have to arrange for someone to take him or her out for potty breaks. But puppies also have needs for human engagement, enrichment, mental and physical exercise and of course… cuddling! As they grow they can be left home alone (always in the crate) for increasing periods when you are away at work. But for the first few months - even up to a year - you’ll likely need some additional help from friends or family to meet all of their needs. We have a great video on puppy schedules, as well as what to expect during the first year of a puppy’s life. Those two will be great resources for you as you plan! If you’ll be working from home, we have a great one on that topic too! Puppy Schedules: kzbin.info/www/bejne/baW5e4aYmK19jNk What to Expect the First Year: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZrGYnx9greYipo

FOMO how true and cute,my Husky pup wants to do everything with me and I find your pup facts are exactly what I am going through,it can be exhausting but the love and antics are worth it,can I use my pet mate though? I did not buy a crate,also have an outside small kennel for safety due to being in a country setting.
@mikej94704 жыл бұрын
Huskies are climbers. I know I have put some funny comments on here but this is real. He would climb my eight foot wood fence, jump over, run to the front door, bark to be let it, go right back outside thru the dog door, then repeat. He would climb the fence a dozen times in a row just for fun. He did destroy a couch when I got him from the pound, but he turned out to be a damn good dog. Miss him! Put a metal spiked color on your dog if in the country. Other dogs or coyotes will go for the neck for an easy kill on your dog during a fight. The metal spikes prevent that. Turns out metal spiked colors serve a real purpose, not for douches to put on their dogs to make them look mean. The metal spiked color is a defensive item for a dog, like body armour.

I got a plan for my dog. My bed is way too small for it to sleep with me (I want it to be a medium-large dog), so I'll have it's crate in a corner in my room. When it gets older it'll know that the crate is their bed but in the morning they can jump in me in the morning, who doesn't wanna be woken up gracefully by your favorite dog? I'm prepared to ignore it while it whines, I just need to brief my family that it will whine. Hopefully they won't hear it much cause we all have loud fans on at night. I want to raise it right, thanks for your help, truly.
