God has created countless number of creatures in the world. However, are all creatures able to communicate? Yes they do communicate. But do they communicate in the same way as humans do? Of course not. The reason is: the physical aspects of human teeth, larynx and so on are not shared by other creatures. So they are limited in their expressions with fixed reference. That is where we come to the point of discussing unique properties of human language… ‘unique’ in that ‘human language is distinctively tuned and oriented’ by the Almighty to make human speak and use language. George Yule, a famous linguist, describes six of those features or properties of language.
00:00 Introduction
01:53 Displacement
04:45 Arbitrariness
08:04 Productivity
12:27 Cultural Transmission
15:02 Discreteness
17:16 Duality

This has to be one of the most self sufficient videos to explain a topic. It is to be highly appreciated that you left no stone unturned in your effort to cover each and every single aspect of importance. Very few videos reach that level. So glad to come across this one!

What is the diffrent between flexibility and displacement plz sir 🙏
@LEL2020
@LEL2020 9 ай бұрын
Welcome! Thanks. “Flexibility” is more relevant to productivity and creativity. It helps you to be more expressive in your ideas while “displacement” is a property of language through which humans are capable of expressing an emotion in time and place, that is to say, humans can talk about past, future and present events with ease and can also describe when and what time those events took place but the animals cannot.

The difference between discreteness and duality is pain in the ass
@LEL2020
@LEL2020 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your valuable feedback. I think you are still in dilemma about the difference between ‘discreteness’ and ‘duality’. Discreteness refers to all individual distinct sounds (44) in English. Duality refers to how the same ‘sound’, for example, a single sound /b/ can be used in two (dual) situations giving two different meanings such as in /bin/ and /nib/.
