2:39 on the scope, you can see that the Juno-6 has two different BBD-lines for the chorus, which makes it so floating and gives it the movement.

Thank you SO MUCH for the chorus settings. I tried it out and I love it!! I've been wanting to make the Juno chorus on my Prophet and could never nail it (not even close). I dialed in your settings and it's extremely close. (Juno has always been my favorite synth mostly because of the chorus) :) Your channel is awesome, keep up the great work!

@Sound_ology11 ай бұрын
Something about the Juno chorus just sounds right. The original chorus saturates, but with the trigon you can saturate really easily before the chorus stage so I bet it sounds even closer than on the P6

I have the AS-1 too and it’s fantastic. Sheer class and big sweet spots. It’s a pitty the knobs don’t have secondary functions or that the “Vintage” feature of the last P6 firmware is unlikely to get implemented. The Toraiz helped me lots with my remorse for having to sell my Oberheim SEM Pro some years ago...

That's interesting! To my ears, the Juno had a slight detune in the decay of the chorus 2.
@Seeattle4 жыл бұрын
so for the pads, the prophet is so clean in its sound but the "dirt" of the Juno give it this cool character. Id be torn too; for my uses I'd probably lean toward the Juno

Check out part 2 of this video, that’s where I show their main differences! The Juno does the basics better and has better chorus. But the p6 is more practical and does crazier stuff better

Thanks for your great videos. Any thoughts or other videos with Juno vs. Rev 2? Love to hear that.
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
I don’t own a rev 2, but I think the chorus is the same. I think it’s edge over the Juno is just that it’s multitibral. As far as the sound, I felt like it was just slightly less natural sounding than the P6 when I tried them out back-to-back. Great synth though, if I hadn’t gotten to try out the P6 next to it I would have bought one
@KordTaylor4 жыл бұрын
Was there some velocity use in Prophet bass patch? Was wondering as the Juno seemed to hit harder but that could be due to no velocity capabilities.
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
The velocity affected the filter, but not the amp. Also I think that Prophet patch is with 2-oscillators, so phasing could be making some notes sound fatter and thinner. The Juno is a sick bass synth though, I agree there’s a violence to its sound that the Prophet doesn’t have

Thoughts on the Prophet's keybed feel? I'm looking to buy a polysynth that will double as a midi controller for other things, and wonder if the Prophet's keys feel good enough for that, or if I should just invest in a fancy controller and keep the engine stuff separate.
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
The prophet's keybed is straight up the best synth keyboard I've ever played. I've played others that I felt like were equally nice, like the Moog One, but it definitely beats the Juno 6 Keyboard, it beats my old Arturia Keylab...it leaves nothing to be desired for synth work. I wouldn't recommend it for playing piano though; piano just doesn't feel right without weighted keys. I usually use my SV-1 when practicing for that reason.

I've always wanted a Juno and keep checking the used prices. Are there differences in sound between the 60 and 6?
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
I haven't played a Juno 60! Only a Juno 6 and Juno 106. The 6 is definitely bigger than the 106, but they both sound awesome obviously. I love sweeping the HPF on my Juno 6, and I don't think you can do that on the 60, but that's the only difference in sound I'm aware of.

Synthetic World 859 Yeah, when I see them up close, I’m always surprised how big they are. Don’t know if I can afford the space footprint, let alone the price.

i know the reply is late but i got a Juno-6 recently and i've read or heard from different sources that the low end is a bit more raw and fatter on the Juno-6 than on a Juno-60 but just a bit...?
@Lagspike994 жыл бұрын
Suuuch a good video. what are your thoughts on the OB-6? Sorry if youve been asked this 1000 times..
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
The OB-6 sounds just as good as the Prophet 6, and even better at times. It can be a little more vibey, and in my opinion it has a slightly more desirable character in a sci fi kind of way. I’d give the OB-6 my highest recommendation without a doubt.
@edenhunter99043 жыл бұрын
Not really a fair comparison.The Juno was under a $1000 when it was released and the Prophet significantly more. I regard the Juno as an excellent beginners synth while the P6 is for someone who knows a bit more about synthesis ...
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
I like this line of reasoning, but googling inflation rates is telling me that $1,000 in 1982 equals $2,771 in 2021, so the prices seem comparable for their times.

I owned the Prophet 6 for years. Eventually sold it. To me, the Juno is kinda alive. The Prophet is not. I'm sure the Prophet is the better synth, if you look at an oscilloscope. Dave Smith is a great engineer. However, I missed the warbliness, slight distortion, and overall personality of the Juno.
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, if I learned anything from making these comparison videos, it's that if you want the Juno sound, you need a Juno. And a vintage one! I disagree that the Prophet isn't alive, but I get what you mean. It could never replace my MS-20, for example.
@digitaldiezel58705 жыл бұрын
I agree with the assessment. I’d still prefer to own a Prophet 6. There’s way more that you can do with it. The Jupiter Xm is all the Juno I would need.

@M3333C3 жыл бұрын
@@Sound_ology how significant is is? I do alot of processing and eq on every sound in general but is the juno like significantly easier to fit into a mix?
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
@@M3333C it’s not significant, they both fit into a mix very well. I rarely need to EQ either instrument, and if I do, it’s generally because of small errors in sound design. Like maybe the filter was a little bit too open so I have to lop off the top end a little or something like that. If you layer a bunch of p6 patches you might find the need to cut your mids but really the issue is with your arrangement in that case, it can be totally avoided by just playing your different parts in different octaves or using the high pass filter.
@M3333C3 жыл бұрын
@@Sound_ology i would imagine you need to eq a fair amount, especially in the low mid range, for any polysynth used for chords
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
@@M3333C Actually I usually don't need to, you can avoid it almost entirely by using the right voicings. Any doubled notes are likely going to be an issue down the road, so rootless voicings really help, and open voicings can make a big difference too.
