Proposition Joe had it all minus one factor. He was more intellectual than Stringer and had him making moves on Avon that benefitted him. Yet he understood Avon was about the Soldier life and could trust him to be monotonous in his decisions. When it came to Omar, he realized Omar was more tactically sound than Avon, intelligent like Stringer, but also had a code that made him Trustworthy. All of his machinations were effective but he never considered Marlo's Ruthless Ambition. He thought putting Marlon "on game" and showing him he was trustworthy was enough. He thought he was training a partner, but Marlo was learning for Prop Joe's position. Marlo wasn't looking to learn the laws of the land, he wanted to be King of it.

Another weakness I might add was Cheese. Cheese might have gotten his in the end but that man was always a liability, family or not. But it's not like he could just pop a cap in his ass & not hear about it around Thanksgiving time. He was a burdensome nephew. One of the takeaways I got from The Wire is that nobody ever really wins the game. The point is more or less to stay in for as long as possible. Prop Joe managed to stay in it for a long time.

Pedantic I know, but blaming inanimate objects on people’s decisions is fruitless. From the cartels to the dealers, to Michael K. Williams, to myself even (I used to IV pure dark-web-sourced fentanyl for years before it was a blip on anyones radar; it was my drug of choice), we all make decisions. The cartels and the dealers made the decision to distribute the drugs. Michael K Williams and I made the decision to use them (not that I’m “putting myself in with MKW” as Lester would say). MKW either wasn’t careful enough, or his demons were such that like many, he didn’t care enough. Addiction is no joke, I can’t say I don’t empathize. Addiction is no joke. And fentanyl is so powerful, that if you don’t take every precaution, you are simply screwed. But regarding fentanyl.. Fentanyl made no decisions. Fentanyl is just an organic compound which has existed (with legitimate uses) for many decades. The main problem is the problem the wire makes clear. *The war on drugs is a fucking failure. And it will only get worse.* There exists worse than fentanyl. And trust me, it will emerge eventually.

Rewatching the series multiple times makes me pick up on little bits of dialogue and mannerisms that I missed the first time around. I like Joe's use of metaphors with the appliances he sells; when Cheese got shot by Mouzone, Joe was talking to another henchman about a salvaging a toaster oven with a frayed cord. Later on he's talking to Andre about cheap appliances that are difficult to fix, he said that he might as well dump them and get another one. Edit: And the situation with Omar/Marlo of course; the clock was not working, "ran out of time". The writing/acting on this show is top notch.

That scene with the referee is one of the many things wrong with this world (1:41). In his head, standing up for himself would have meant risking his life over a damn basketball game. Man's playing with a handicap bc he's not willing to kill or die over nonsense. And, of course, there's the other handicap he's dealing with: trying to make your way in the world by hardwork and without resulting to criminal behavior that harmful to the community at large. A good way to understand this scene is to compare to the scene between Marlo and the security guard in Season 4 Episode 2. You can also simply write "Marlo and the security" and it should bring you to the scene.

Omg thank u so much for making this video clip movie !!! Prop Joe deserves his own movie alot more than Marlo does!!!! Now u got everyone (Prop Joe , Avon , Omar , Marlo , Brother Mosune & even Wee Bey & Slim Charles & Poot) but a 2 hour long Stringer Bell video clip (movie) definitely needs to be next !!!! We need that one bad 💯 Honestly u could make a whole entire 4 hour movie of just McNulty & Stringer going against each other ( cat & mouse game )

Prop Joe refusal to take out Marlo early was the biggest mistake. Stringer made that same mistake trying to be merciful but he realized its not possible. Prop Joe was the problem he wanted it to be peaceful but it can only be peaceful by taking out people who ruin the peace.

Prop joe was such a great character, he couldve essentially ran baltimore, he was smart and played people against each other over and over. He even knew when to stop, accept an L and just fix shit so everything could go back to smooth sailing. He did as best he could to always have an ace up his sleeve and be 1 step ahead. Fucking cheese tho... right after he gets popped you can hear in the background "fucker had it coming" so true
