I have the Ming Shi and I think it is an excellent razor. I have never used the Futur, so I can't speak to it, but the Ming Shi has never failed to provide a good shave for me. I have never used the Ming Shi blade, but now I am going to try it!

Terrific Tuesday shave. Kudos to Jill Snodden for selecting today's razor. Proraso was its usual well performing self. I'm yet to sample the Cypress & Vetiver. I don't believe the subdued fragrance as you described it would get me to invest in it. I prefer a more pronounced scent strength in a cream; especially one by Proraso. This being said, the overall performance by the cream was the unmistakable quality one can expect from Proraso. The decision to use the Chinese blade was a sacrificial experiment of volunteerism. You put your skin, and the success of the session. at personal risk. This, unselfishly to the benefit of any viewers who have contemplated trying these blades. I now understand why they were free. I appreciate this a great deal. The Seillean's knot showed its remarkable ability to retain water even after being squeezed! That bag of cream will last over a year easily. I'm pensive in anticipation of the new gear you mentioned. Big Ba-Da-Boom feedback from the Futur clone. Cheers!. .

I dampened my chin and just took a tiny drop of the cream not even lathered with brush just spread it around and it is slick as Yeti Snot and great residual slickness. Can't wait for my shave tonight with it.

I had the same experience with the Futur razor. The Futur was about my first DE razor. (It looked so cool, like sculpture.) I got terrible cuts!! Shave den looked like a bloody horror movie. I stopped wetshaving for years after that. Now I read all the blade gaps of the adjustable Merkur Futur are among the largest around. -- OVER 1 mm. No wonder I had trouble.

I prefer preshave cubes or pucks.I have a couple local artisians that make some shaving pucks,very slick but do not lather up very good.I have been using those for preahaves and has been working great .PAA makes some really good ones.

Sharp enough to leave you with "red polka dots" to the tune of if "Let's apply styptic gel"...:D Personally, I have both a Ming Shi 2000s and those blades and have found BOTH to be very good. There is something of a oxymoron-esque quality to classifying any razor blade as "not as sharp or very sharp or sharp as"....

Very nice Kevy. I’m new to DE shaving (just started yesterday) after 26 years of cartridge shaving, and I’m already hooked. I’m picking up lots of tips from your videos. I’m slowly starting to understand all the different types of products and fortunately have the likes of The Executive Shaving Company and The Gentleman’s Groom Room not too far away. What tips would you suggest to a complete novice - pre-shave, cream, brush, razor and post shave? I’ve started with a Merkur 34c with Personna blades, though I’m thinking about Feather blades as I seem to be doing 3 or 4 passes before I get a BBS finish. I’m not sure if it’s the blades or me learning. Any advice would be great. Thanks for your videos. They’ve helped me hugely so far!

Gordon Constable Welcome to wet shaving! You will find a lot of great info and products as you get more and more into it. There are several great channels on KZbin with wet shaving, but not being biast, but kevy here got me into the art and I've never turned back. Lots of great products out there ( some not so expensive, some very expensive), but use what your comfortable with. Ask plenty of questions, because I guarantee, someone out there has an answer for you. Again, welcome! As for the razor, the 34c is perfect for beginners, but try different blades. I would be cautious with feathers ( I learned from experience). Feathers are by far the sharpest blades out there and at least for me, they aren't really forgiving when it comes to nicks and some irritation. Even to this day when I use feathers, i'm extremely cautious with them. I use the personna reds a lot, but it took me reading a lot of reviews before I tried them. There's a website called : tryablade.com where you can get samples of different blades, so you can find the best blade that suits your needs. Wow, here I am stealing kevy's thunder ( sorry kevy) lol... I'll shut up for now and leave it to a pro. Kevy, take it away.

I totally agree with getting sampler packs. I've been testing blades and Journaling my daily shave in Badger & Blade. Gordon, a 3 + pass shave is not out of the norm for a BBS. Not many can get a BBS on one pass. It's called beard reduction, that is the aim, each pass takes more growth down. Keep up the good work! When testing blades, remember that the first shave on one is not always the best, most get better on subsequent passes and actually get sharper.

Nice Shave Kevy. Thanks for sharing. I am really interested in these scents. Woody, lime and that velvet. But why are they that expensive? Normal bowl of shaving soap cost me 3 euro for 150ml. As a cream in a 500ml plastik bag costs 8,50 Euro. And that creams costs.13-19 Euro for 250ml. Wow, too much! And i already have to much of soap 😁 But still, i would like to smell them... I'm not sure why they are that price. You do get a lot of cream for the money. Maybe split them with a friend to share the cost. The pouch isn't the best looking thing so half of it squeezed into a tub would be ok. They perform great. Cheers. Kevy 👍😀

I got a question about the several chinese clones. Are they all legal? Aren't they just copying the designs which might be patented. Same with the rockwell 6s/c clones. Do you have any info on that? I personally resist buying these things, because to me they are just stealing ideas and designs which european/american companies have spent time and money on. BTW: Do you have the cypress & vetiver edt? If so, can you recommend it?

The Chinese Futur clone is legal. The patent for the design of the Futur lapsed. Personally, I don't think many companies would copy something before first checking with a patent. I've not seen a 6S/C clone. I don't have the Cypress & Vetiver EDT but I've had it's very nice. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍

Hi Kevy. How does this new generation Proraso Cream formula stack up against my previous gen, Proraso Red Cream? The cheapest I found the new stuff is $20 Amreican money. That makes the unit pricing more expensive than my Red... wich I love. Kevy Shaves - I'll trust your word on the performance, then. The price per ounce is more expensive. It's not just the size. I got the Red Tube (about 5oz.) for $6 dollars... times two, that's $12... still cheaper than the new stuff. I have heard the new formula is great. I just wondered HOW great (to merit the additional price). Wished they made it in a 5oz. Portion, though. Did you review the Azur/Lime? If so, what's it ACTUALLY smell like? Take care ;)

I haven't reviewed the Azure Lime. It's not a straight up Lime scent. It has a musk scent at the base with the Lime kicking in on the top notes. It's a nice scent, quite strong and pleasant. The performance is very good. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍

Not sure where in the world you are, but if you're in the States, try Ariana & Evans soap. They're made with goats milk and cream thick, rich creamy lathers that are really slick and they're kind to skin with the addition of the goats milk. Wholly Kaw soaps are also very good as they contain Donkey milk. Hope that helps. Kevy 😀👍

Good point Rich! Lol! 😂 The lower settings weren't too bad but once it got above number 2 the shave started to feel rough and was just too aggressive for my soft Scottish skin. Take the Ming Shi apart... Put a dab of silicone grease (dielectric grease will work), on the spring ends and around the thread post out of the handle. The adjusting mechanism with function much better than stock factory.

most artisan soaps they are over doing with this greasy tallow and all kinds of oils to give it that luxurious creamy feeling putting pre oil on just seems to me just to much fell oily. IMHO

I like using pre shave oils. It adds to the enjoyment of the shave for me. As ever, ymmv. Some people use them, some people don't. There's no right or wrong in using them or not. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍

It was a great blade. Next time I use it, it might be crap. I thought it worked great in this shave. I'm not sure it would last past 1 shave. Cheers. Kevy 👍

You should have kept the Futur just to have it in your collection. Just remember that whatever you sold if for probably resulted in a dinner out at a restaurant that was flushed down the pipes the next day! The food was history but the razor would last forever!
