The bad thing about wet shaving is that you want to do it more than once a day. Like I tell my friends I not longer have to shave, I get to shave.

I am the same way, i have a beard and went from shaving 1 time every 2 weeks or 1 week sometimes to wanting to shave every day. Cartridge and canned cream was just a mindless routine like brushing teeth.. Wet shaving I feel like it's my time to "pamper" myself and pay attention to the details from lather and load to 3 pass shave and then enjoying a nice aftershave burn. Makes me feel kind of fantsy pants and sophisticated. 👍👍

Brilliant Nick, nice to see you revisit this absolute giant of the wetshaving world. I've always had great affection for this soap, cushion and slickness are great (i think your lack of slickness on the first pass was purely down to the sheer volume of soap you loaded, you were moving through 1cm of thick lather, haha). I agree it can be a little drying, not enough for me to see it as a negative, I assumed it was maybe the menthol, I always use a balm anyway. This stuff has endured the test of time and I'm sure will continue to do so. I also love the tub it comes in, great ergonomics.

Awesome review. I appreciate that you go over the ingredients and I hope you keep doing so. I can't use SLS. I just recently started having break outs and itching from body wash/bath soaps and after making lots of changes and a lot of investigating ingredients I believe I have narrowed it down to sulfate. I prefer natural products anyway and you going over the ingredients keeps me from wasting time and money. I know to check ingredients before I buy but sometimes I'll see something and get excited about trying it then forget to do all the extra research online before ordering. Awesome channel and I like the new review style.

Nick, I have watched many (not quite all) of your shave videos and I commend you on your open mindedness and honesty. I've been using Proraso for many years and have had great results. I live in Sydney, Australia and have very soft water which could explain the good performance. I agree that you can get a drying, almost tightening feeling in the face. I ensure that I clean off the face thoroughly and moisturise well.

I'm italian and here proraso(italian product) cost around 2.8$ , so it is used more than other products from abroad. You should use a bowl! Pick up some soap from green bowl and then use a large tea bowl to create the foam :) Try! You use too much proraso and it's is quite good for face lathering...but 90% of italian prefer lather in a separate bowl and add a little more water ;)

Hi Nick, I particularly like this product. It reminds me of such a classic shaving scent. I have the pre shave, shave cream as you are using here, and the aftershave. The aftershave is kind of a vetiver scent. I use this when I am in the mood for the classic shaving experience. I have some new wet shavers and currently have it on load to them to see how they like it.

Nick: love your vids. I am pushing 70 and use many straights, creams and soaps including MDC, LPL, ADP, SV and all the artisan stuff from Cadie's, Phoenix, Henri et Victoria, Sterling, Beaver Woodwright, etc. But I still reach for Proraso (white) and aftershave balm at least once a wee. Love the Italian smell and nuance. Keep up the great work. You are awesome; remind me of my 24 yr old son. Best! J

Funny that I watched this after using the same soap this morning!! I'd have to agree with you about the hard water being the culprit behind having a residue on your razor. I love the menthol/eucalyptus with the Proraso, but just hate having that film build up due to the hard water in my area.

After sampling several different fancy artisan soaps for a few years, I ultimately went back to Proraso as my primary go-to shaving soap. It's a good-quality soap sold at a fair price, and you can conveniently find it at most pharmacies and supermarkets here in Canada. Gimmicky soaps don't give you a better shave; practicing your technique does.

So at this point I've watched like 6 of your videos, and I love em! Thanks! I've been shaving with a straight razor (Parker shavette with Derby or Astra blade) and puck (Proraso sandalwood) for the past year (I have a full beard, so I just clean up my neck and cheek line up), and always thought I was doing a good job with the process.I find that the soap leaves a rather dry film on my skin after shaving and on my tools as well -- kind of like what you said. I love the blooming technique that you use, and I cant wait to try it out soon! I'm looking to move towards a double edge safety razor like the iKon 102 you had showed in a previous video, looks slick! I also want to move to a different shaving soap, something with more natural ingredients; and likewise with the aftershave lotion. Thanks a lot buddy, look forward to your future videos.

I've used a number of shaving soaps and creams with the same water source, and to date Proraso (white) has been the only one that left a noticeable residue on my razors. Other than that I'd still recommend it.

Prorasso is great. I have the green cream in a tube. lathers up very well. I've switched to bowl lathering lately as the brush I have is agressive with the exfoliation if i face lather. The cream lathers us very easily just like the soap does and I really like the menthol feels great in the morning. I don't use it often right now due to it being winter but during a summer heat wave it'll be my go to alongside the absolutely amazing Nivea. Great recommendation on that I've recommended it to other people and they were shocked at the quality for $3.99 a tube in Canada. Thumbs up on this review. Give the cream a try too!

I related so much to this video. I use the Treet Black Beauty's exactly how Nick described here! In an aggressive razor, it allows for the shave to be close but reduces the chance of cuts. On days where my face is feeling a bit beat up from shaving frequently or maybe I rushed a bit too much with sharp blades, the Treet with a non aggressive razor(Gillette tech style) and I get a smooth comfortable shave. Love treats in my arsenal and I love Poraso.

Hi Nick! Love your reviews. I just started DE shaving and just bought a stack of mixed Proraso soaps and creams to get me started and a Cella to add. I am OK with the Proraso white, green and red, but I am interested in something a bit more slicker. What would be your suggestion? Your Mike's soap review along with the Woolfat looked a good choice. The Bay Rum looks nice too. Thanks Mike in Japan.

Nick thanks for giving Proraso a second chance. I will agree the post shave isn't as good as some others such as Stirling and Barrister & Mann. It does have a clean feeling that others just don't have. I consistently get great shaves from this stuff maybe cause I have used it so much. So yes there are slicker soaps, more hydrating soaps, but Proraso Green is just a great soap all around. I do like the White as well and Red, I have not tried the Blue but I am thinking about. Again thanks for the videos and I would like to see more straight razor shaves!!!

I use the Proraso green with a shavette and Darby blades. . I am new to wet shaving this year. It was my first shaving soap. I was looking for something in menthol and it had good reviews on amazon and what seemed like a good price. I really like the way my face felt after the first shave. I have found that sometimes i don't get the lather quite firm enough and i need to re-apply mid pass, I haven't noticed the residue but I wipe my Razor down after each use. I have since stated to try some different samples. I like the Dapper Dragon soap, it makes a really thick cushiony lather for a smooth shave but not a lot of slickness. Is there a trick to making the lather that will increase the slickness?

I think this soap is more of a 'cream'. I haven't used it yet, but looking at it what I'd be inclined to do is get some on the brush and transfer into a separate bowl so it's not too dry, or even dip your finger in and grab an amount. It seems very concentrated and looks like, the Nivea Sensitive cream which is also pretty concentrated. It smells damp or stale in the bowl and I'm pleased you report the aroma is 'alive' with use!

Sweet review brother! If you could only have 2 safety razors, 2 razor blades, 2 shaving soaps, and 2 shaving brushes (1 of each for beginner + 1 of each for intermediate).... what would they be?

Hey Nick try the Proraso Blue Shaving Cream, it really hydrates your skin and combined with the aftershave it really makes you feel you had a great shave, give it a shot! and post a video.

Do you ever use some coconut oil (or something similar) as a preshave, even if only to moisturise your face Nick? Prooaso has larger graduals that need breaking down for the best shave but its a great exfoliating soap but its means its not a smooth postshave feel. But some balm seems to do the trick as long as you use a hot towl to clean your face first before using!

Hi Nick. Proraso is a funny one, it's the first real soap I bought and the minute I smelt it I just loved it and still is my favourite scent. However I do have other soaps that perform a bit better, in terms of slickness you have to work with it a bit with adding a little water etc. on the whole it's good. The blue tube proraso have it very slick, but the scent just isn't for me. And the red cream is designed to soften the whiskers which I feel it does. Another good video and thank you. Owen💈

I am no expert by any stretch but I have very little issue with slickness of any soap besides RR XXX. I have been using the Proraso Green Creme and it is pretty thirsty and it seems to like the water added a bit slowly? Maybe give more water added a bit slower a try? Picked the tip up from Chris from Caties Bubbles in an interview with him.

@nick shaves ... What would you consider the “Rolls Royce” of shaving soaps ? 🧐 I switched to the safety razor a month again and I ended up buying a 5.5oz puck through Stirling and got a wintergreen scent. It’s good but it’s not great either. I got the Van Der Hagen and the soap that it came with was suitable but not fantastic by any means.

You can find Proraso under the U.S. name at Bath and Body Works. It's called C.O. Bigelow. Cream in the tube only. $5 or $10. I have the cream and the slickness appears to get better with every pass. The first pass never feels as slick as you want. The green smells and feels good.

I get better shaves from proraso green cream then proraso green soap. But I'm generally a cream guy anyways. But I have also heard by others the cream is a better product then the soap. Nice shave Nick. Try proraso blue someday maybe?

there's no question the difference in soft and hard water. I once had a water softener and hated it. when showering it always felt I never got all the soap off my body always felt slick. for shaving though soft water is a plus.

I do exactly what you did up to the point of face lather. Before you hit the face use a bowl to further whisk the product in said bowl. You'll be surprised how much thicker the lather will become and you can add water if it seems too dry.
