Looking into co-living in Singapore? I give you my honest opinion on the pros and cons of co-living here in this city-state.
Cons of Co-living
0:57 co-living in Singapore is expensive $$$
2:52 getting your housemates is like picking a raffle
Pros of Co-living
3:58 it can be one way of meeting new people
4:51 co-living generally has a 3 month minimum lease (shortest I've seen)
5:08 it's meant to be frictionless - it's already furnished and the rent price is bundled with utilities
6:25 there's always a team on hand that can attend to your requests
My afterthoughts
8:15 it's a renters' market so negotiate as much as possible
8:43 really do your research at the unit you're looking at
9:18 a lot of my Singaporean friends want to move out of home
12:20 why I left co-living

Actually an HDB flat is good enough, IF the landlord and/ or other tenants are friendly. You get to cut down your rental by almost 1k.

Thanks for the info on Cove! My friends/family told us we should be able to get a suitable HDB condo for our family of 4 for around 2500 USD. At the same time we had friends, also with two kids, on an expat housing package living in a 10,000 USD condo. So, very wide range of options depending on the location, quality and amenities!

Definitely, I'd also use cove temporarily for 3 months, and then that'll give you and your family time to explore different neighborhoods and commit to one place / sign a lease!!

I'm moving home. am considering Airbnb or Hotel or co-living for a month or two before moving to a new place. I did look at Hmlet, but it seems all their homes are shop houses kind of style.

Consider cove and figment for temporary living too! It's good to take your time before you sign a 1-2 year lease :)

It's not a renters' market right now..my best advice is to join one of those Facebook rental groups and take over someone's lease. The prices right now are ridiculous! I have a few friends who want to move but there's been massive increases everywhere.

@@TheFangGirl Yup, the prices are really outrageous. It is really crazy how things have changed over the year since your video. Trying to see what I can do now.

Oops, sorry if I was confusing. Most apartment/condos require at least a year for long term leases, but co-living is 3 months minimum. It's good for those who want to stay longer, but don't want to pay crazy prices - imagine living and paying for a hotel for 3 months eek

Definitely more efficient in some parts of Asia vs America. So for sure aint an american thing to want to get things done fast and efficiently. Common need

I saw it as people approached urgency in different ways or people are used to different turnaround times - definitely a common need, but different perspective.

Thanks for the helpful and clear vid! i’m moving to singapore for studies this april and haven’t had any luck with finding apartments, would u recommend cove to a university student?
@TheFangGirl
@TheFangGirl 3 жыл бұрын
Nicee :) welcome to the little red dot. It would be way more convenient for you, but all your housemates at Cove are most likely going to be working employees who will be out mostly 9-5pm; their ages vary from late 20s-40s. If you are okay with that, then look into co-living. You can also ask Co-living to place you with other students if any! If you want a uni experience, I'd try to find people my age

Cove Coliving has a variety of prices depending on your needs. Check on the website for prices. To me it was like basically moving into a service apartment. If you’re someone who doesn’t want to find an agent and go through the tedious process of finding housing and furniture, Cove is a good option!

Stay at Uni it’s the cheapest option plus you’ll meet your course mates there and meet locals to bring you around. Don’t stay at these expensive places.

Do you have to pay a deposit and they give it back ? If so when do you give it ? Or do you have to pay +1 month
@TheFangGirl
@TheFangGirl 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! yes, you will have to give a deposit as well as first months rent and it’s all upfront.
