A huge pro for us is how we do school. My husband works for 24hours and then is off for 48 hours. We have found that weird balance between everything and dad gets to enjoy having the kids home while I get a break. My break May include me grading papers or catching our planners.... But it's a breather for me. And it works for us. We end schooling all year but we have built in vacations we take as a family that cover school topics for kids as well. So for us it's the best of both worlds.

This is why I love homeschooling. There are so many families that have different schedules like yours and homeschooling allows the family to be together. Oh I get you too! I LOVE having time to plan :) Thanks for sharing.

I'm new to homeschooling this fall will be my first year. my son will be a first grader and daughter will be preschooler. I think the biggest pro for us before even starting is being able to pick the friends my kids are around. After one year of public school I have realized kids these days are learning things that maybe they shouldn't be. My son picked up alot of bad habits, so I'm very happy to be able to control this aspect.

Yes. I agree too ;) I love that they are home and I know what they are learning.

Thank you for posting this. I will be homeschooling my kindergartener in the fall. Your videos & book recommendations have helped me immensely. I'm feeling intimidated that I won't be able to get him to sit still for learning but am incorporating gross motor activities to teach math & letter recognition
@HeatherTorresTV7 жыл бұрын
Welcome. Oh don't worry about the sitting still part. That comes with repetition of the expectation. My little guy still has to do something physical between each subject. We also reward with activity too. Meaning -- if they did well the day before they can choose to do there math wherever they want or reading standing up. If they misbehave -- they have to do the next day at the table sitting right next to me :)

I have sooo many pros!! I could go on for days haha Thanks for sharing! I'm going on my 2nd year of homeschooling my three girls and it's the most amazing thing ever! Some of my pros: They aren't mentally exhausted and emotional every day, They are learning life skills and making life connections with people of all ages- not just their age group, They are safe and secure to be who THEY want to be and learning things that they are interested in(amongst the core things we teach and learn too of course) and I have more but those are some of my pros.

Hi Heather, I started following you not too long ago and am really enjoying learning about your experience and tips! At one point in this video you mentioned that there are various homeschoolers out there that have shared their programs and planners etc and I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of where I could get my hands on some of these resources?
@HeatherTorresTV7 жыл бұрын
Hi Krista! Welcome. Of course. Some of my favorite homeschool moms who are amazing at planning are Confessions of a Homeschooler, Pam Barnhill, and Kristy Clover. Confessions of a Homeschooler has a blog and a KZbin channel. Pam Barhill has a blog and two AMAZING podcast. Kristy Clover has a blog and a KZbin channel. Check them out and let me know if you need any more resources.

Heather Torres Thank you so much! I have a 3 month old so slightly ahead of the times but homeschooling is something I have strong feelings about.... just never thought of myself as the one teaching so any resources will help! Your videos have really intrigued me and I'm always excited to see a new post. Homeschooling in Canada isn't as popular as it has become in the States so learning about how you've started and your words of encouragement really help! I look forward to learning more from you :))
@amandaarmstrong46267 жыл бұрын
Krista Humick another great resource is www.freehomeschooldeals.com She has so any freebies, including planners! She also runs a KZbin page called Jamrille's Large Family Table. I hope this helps.

How exciting and wow you are ahead of the curve by starting to learn all about it now. :) Just remember..... whether you choose homeschooling or not.. you will always be your child's first teacher. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm always here to help.

I’m a military spouse and we will be relocating to Florida early next year. We are really considering homeschooling. My oldest child will reach school age while we are stationed there. Their requirements seem pretty simple. The thing that concerned me was that a few years ago the county next to the county we are moving to threatened legal action against the parents that were homeschooling their children. It was illegal, but it’s a bit intimidating to me that I could potentially have a legal battle over my right to educate my children at home.

I like the general relaxed pace we can take with homeschooling. There's an absence of pressure, both for me and my kiddo. I'm still a Type A and consider us to be pretty structured, but there's a lot of flexibility involved, as well as a lot of grace (thank you, Lord! 😁)
@HeatherTorresTV7 жыл бұрын
Yes! I completely agree :)

This will be my first year homeschooling but my two pros are teaching my kids about themselves (not letting society define them) and beign able to let my kids focused on their interests. My oldest wants to be a professional dancer and the time she would be at trad school wouldn't get there
@boojank7 жыл бұрын
Tiffany Ebonee how has your first year of homeschooling been going? My oldest is three and myself and my husband are seriously considering homeschooling our children.
@cierrabarrera18636 жыл бұрын
PROS - the flexibility of being able to travel! We love traveling! Whenever my husband has a 4 day weekend we drive from El Paso, Tx to Arizona or New Mexico and visit state or national parks! Another pro for us is we are a military family and homeschooling means not having to constantly change my child's school and making her start over again and again.

I've found that although it's difficult at times, if we take it easy and just go with the flow we definitely get more out of the lessons and they are so much more enjoyable. It's our first year so we've definitely had our fair share of ups and downs and getting used to it has taken us some progress but we have settled in and it's looking up from now!

Hi Heather! Love your channel!! I'm a mother of 7 year old twin boys. I will be homeschooling for the first time this upcoming school year. I'm a research nut toi...lol! I find your channel is so reassuring that I can do this!! I'm excited that we won't have to get up at 6am and rush out the door. We can take our time with learning and do some awesome field trips and activities. I've already done my planning and curriculum choices....wooo...hooo!

Great video! Yeah, we find that we have to be SUPER intentional about making time for myself without the kids. I think a CON can also be working too much and not having boundaries! I find that I can research myself to death if I'm not careful...the PRO to this of course is that one can decide or learn to just chill out and trust that it will all be ok!
@HeatherTorresTV6 жыл бұрын
Oh yes! I can total research to death too! haha.... I have to set really good boundaries on researching curriculum or I will fall into the trap of thinking there is something better or we are missing out. :)

How about the social life of a home schooled child? And until what age do you plan on homeschooling your children? Thank you!
@HeatherTorresTV7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark! Great question. Social life was very important to our family when we took the step to homeschool. For our family, we make it a point to foster great relationships between our kids and their friends. They see them regularly. We are also involved in church groups and homeschooling groups. There is great value in being involved in your kids social life and knowing where their influencers are.
@linnea15767 жыл бұрын
A pro is that not only do I get more time with my kids but they get more time together! My older 2 are good friends and the 1 yr old gets to see much more of her siblings too, not just weekends and summer. A con is that while homeschooling may be growing, we are still the minority so it's easy to not be confident in my choice and wonder if I'm doing the right thing for all of us.

That will give me a better idea what blogs to point you to. :) Also -- do you already have a homeschool style you like? That would help too.

Hi heather thanks for responding. I have 3 kiddos I will be homeschooling. One is in 2nd grade, one is in kindergarten, and one is 2 years old. I have been doing home preschool with the 5 year old and 2 year old this year. I actually blog about our experiences for the curriculum we use. We've had so much fun it's kind of pushed us to consider homeschooling for good. We haven't decided if we are going to start this year or next but we would like to use a secular program, that's literature based.
@HeatherTorresTV7 жыл бұрын
A great blog to check out is www.freehomeschooldeals.com and www.1plus1plus1equals1.com. They will have christian focused and secular material to check out for the youngers. I also know that Book Shark has a secular literature program too.
