The battle on the Lexington Green, the Birthplace of American Liberty, was April 19, 1775, NOT 1776! July 4, 1776 is the date that the Declaration of Independence was signed and the birth of the nation! Therefore, the Bicentennial in 1976, when President Gerald Ford visited Lexington, was a celebration of the 200 years since the birth of the nation, not the revolutionary war.
