Although it is possible to live here as an anglophone, I leave it to anyone moving here if they want to find out how much not speaking French could affect their experience of living here. Having learned French is one of the many accomplishments of my life! But it was challenging for me when I didnt speak it… (nor English). More videos to come! Really good feedback, thanks. I'm agree that the French is not a con. It's an opportunity to learn this language and it's the charm of this city. It's also the main language, so it can't be a con. If you move to Mexico city you can't say that speaking spanish is a con.

That's great! Me too, learned it and studied in French and it is our main language at home :) It is only if you talk to enough people in the process of moving here, and that moved here with a job for example, you will for sure hear over an over that not speaking French is a con for sure! It is almost funny! I am a European-Canadian guy. I had a nice roommate called Juan in Vancouver a long time ago and he was also from Argentina who had Italian background and who lived in Montreal before moving to Vancouver. I love and always loved Québec and Montreal, Québec City because the people are very nice, helpful, cheerful and smiling and laughing a lot which makes English Canada look sour, puritan and it is like a cemetery. Sorry for saying this straight out but I have lived long enough in Vancouver and in Toronto and also in Miami, FL with the Latinos.. The whole feeling, the vibs are much more relaxed and happier in Québec than in English Canada. This is the reason why I am going to move to La Ville de Québec from Europe soon back to Canada. :) PS: I can not wait to learn also French besides speaking English, Spanish, German and Hungarian. :) PPS: I love the excellent food of Québec and the old, often European style architecture.

For me, French is a pro and that is the reason I'd go to Montreal and not other cities and would be to learn the beautiful French language

The video expresses Not speaking French and moving here because of the limiting nature of not knowing this language and living here. However, when you learn French, it is a fantastic language, and I'm so thankful I had the opportunity of discovering this beautiful language. Was it hard to find jobs before I spoke French? My experience is definitely! It never discouraged me, I went in all the way and learned it, and today it is my primary language at home, at work, and in general.! Au revoir!

Great Info. I was confused at first listening to a Spanish accent from Montreal. Most Americans have trouble with one language let alone 3. You forgot the biggest pro - the food.

Last winter, we had a green Xmas, and mild. January and February we had snow, but not cold. All melted beginning of March and we had 60 degrees days in March . April and May, 70, 80 and even 90's. Not as cold as people say it is. The snow cleans the air and environment. No critters and discussing bugs like the south. Health care, one of the best in the world. You may need to wait, but all emergencies are done immediately. I agree with you, Montreal is one of the best cities in the world to live in, but its catching up to Toronto in house pricing unfortunately.

I currently live in Toronto and I'm thinking of moving to Montreal (for better job opportunities in Film industry and cheaper costs of living). Would you say that now is a good time to make a move (rent wise talking) or wait to see the panorama in the future, like next year? You mentioned infrastructure and health care, I guess for a foreigner may be a shock (either good or bad, depending) but would you say that Healthcare is much much worse than other cities like Toronto? (long hours here too but they're keeping up and good amenities), and infrastructure... I get the idea that all the buildings and everything is falling apart and rotting haha, but maybe I'm over reacting? For sure it seems like the budget doesn't reach QC as much as other provinces... Also, you mentioned long winters and wind (nothing new for Toronto), but do you consider Montreal is windier than Toronto?! Thank you again and I might contact if I decide to move out there :)

Hello! thank you for the great message. Definitely the filming industry is interesting here, we often can see shoots "directional arrows" around the city. As a realtor, we often get asked for homes to rent for sets hehe. There are lots of options for rent. We've seen prices increase. I cannot compare healthcare since I don't have any experience from Ontario's healthcare system, maybe a future topic of a video to discuss with my colleague realtors from Ontario! There is a lot to improve in terms of infrastructure, I see that it is often in the news! Still very livable! For the winters, they are not that long, its gotten shorter, but 1000% harder than Toronto ones! keep in touch!

How on Earth can you say that the French language is a con when considering moving to Montreal? Do you realize what you're saying? You're actually implying that French is a problem and that everybody would be better off if the common language was English instead... This kind of colonialist and Anglo-suprematist attitude is an insult to all Québécois. If you absolutely want to live in an English-speaking environment, do us a favor: move somewhere else in North America.
