I lived in Newport 50 years ago. A lot of young people moved to the area in the early 70's, including a lot of musicians and artists. I built houses up and down the coast and played music at The Pub on Bay Street, up at Jake's Hi Tide and Captain Kidd's on 101, even got over to Toledo to The Pit. All these places are gone now, but I remember them. Life is the most on the Oregon Coast!

Hey Rose, You'll get some great beach days in along with getting to see some great storms (they can be really fun to see!) Most everything stays open through the winter. Shorter hours and maybe limited days but still open... If you're working in Newport, you can look from Waldport north to about Depoe Bay and you shouldn't have too long of commute times. Feel free to shoot me an email about a place to rent with what your budget is. I may know of something coming up.

I live in Portland and visit the Oregon coast about 4 times a year for a week. I would love to live there, I mean you guys have Walmart, Fred Meyer, Big 5, you guys have lots of amenities. Tons of awesome resturants like newport cafe (which is open 24/7), Super Oscar's Mexican Food, and then the normal places like Taco bell so I'm not missing anything. Traffic really is nothing compared to living in Portland, I live right next to the clackamas town center off 82nd and it's ALWAYS a mess. I mean I understand 4th of July, the bayfront is a mess. Also vacationing in Winter is great, hotels are cheap then, I ususally stay at Shilo Inn and get a nice ocean view. Also the newport zoo and the aquarium is great. Only thing I would be concerned about is internet, whos the providers down there?
@surfrealtor4 жыл бұрын
Yah, it doesn't really feel like your missing much here. Even between the hardware stores I can get everything I need for projects without going to the valley. But, you do get pretty good at knowing who has what. Internet speeds are actually not too bad. I just ran a test and was getting about 100 down and 11 Up. So, it does everything I need but you do have to make sure you're somewhere that has charter/spectum for more reliable internet. Thanks for dropping the comments!

Housing is such an issue in this town. Building big box houses no one can afford, unless you come here with money it’s really difficult to find affordable homes.
@surfrealtor2 жыл бұрын
I see that as an issue in a lot of the desirable coastal and mountain towns. I think governments need to look at opening zoning restrictions that allow for more smaller dwellings on properties that could accommodate them. But it’s a tough issue for sure as housing costs continue to rise.

What I like about Toledo is it’s a perfect town for someone that likes the coast but doesn’t want as much of the coastal influx. It does get colder in the winter but also warmer in the summer. It’s an old logging town. Like a lot of Oregon logging town’s it’s seen it’s hard days in the past. But in more recent years it’s grown into a quint little town. The river provided fishing and boating and the vast logging roads provide opportunities for hiking, biking, and hunting. It’s a very unique town that is important to see in person but if any of what I mentioned speaks to you it may be worth considering.
