My list, starting with a con followed by a pro... 1. Con: Traffic, it's bad yet you learn to plan your schedule around it. Pro: The metro system is usually decent. Not to mention clean. 2. Con: People are obsessed about where they did their post-ed. I've lived in other highly educated cites, yet I've never heard people anywhere else talk constantly about colleges, that their kids are honor students etc. It just came across as arrogant. Pro: Education is a great tool, and people should go after their dreams rather than just the white picket fence. Also intelligent people can carry out interesting conversations. 3. Con: People also being obsessed with their careers. Pro: At least they're motivated rather than being leeches to society. 4. Con: People can sometimes be rude and incredibly impatient. They tend to have type A personalities. Pro: See #3. 5. Con: A little pricey, but you become adapted to it. tip: look high and low for the deals. Pro: High-paying jobs for those high-living expenses. 6. Con: Muggy summers. Pro: Warmer winters compared to other areas in the States. 7. Con: Transients Pro: But there are still several people who do settle in the area even into old age because there's so much opportunity.

I was born and raised in DC/Maryland. I loved living there but I just can't do that cold weather. I moved south and only come back to visit there is a lot to see and a lot of things to do growing up there was an amazing experience. It's an amazing city and so much history to experience. Like any other city there are good and bad areas and that is the part people seem to leave out.

I lived 30 miles outside of DC and it was a blessing me and my family got to leave and move to Texas in 2005. We could no longer strive with the heavy traffic congestion and ridiculous living expenses. A past part of me comes back to life whenever I visit up there, but it’s not worth moving back to.

@@mv3967 Taxes are much higher. Allot of my friends from the D.C. area are moving out of D.C. for retirement. Florida is more laid back then the hassle down here. I'm originally a D.C. native (Bellevue). I remember the Biebricher House, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Berry Farms. Since everyone moved down here in D.C. (no more chocolate city). I was shocked about 14 & U street NW starting to look like Beverly Hill, Cali. There is no more set rush hour traffic time. Crime rate is spiking and the D.C. mayor need to go. As much as Marion Barry was crooked he is a much better mayor then Bowser.

I've been living in Richmond for 3 years and lived in DC/NOVA area before that (for 3.5 years) Cost of living (especially housing is way cheaper in Richmond) But there's way more to do in DC, more diversity, and networkimg opportunities as well. Luckily if you do live in Richmond (which isn't a terrible city) you're only 2 hours away from DC

I am from southeast DC. The pros to me are: Walkable, black culture, police presence, things to do. The cons are: DC teens (they wild asf) amount of certified hoods and projects (dwellings) in DC, crime/ shooting rate) traffic, gentrifiers, prices, gentrification, the green line, and drugs

I'm from SE. I left the area back in the late 1970s early 1980s. I remember all the VA and MD folks use to drive to SW to get there drugs at the corner and the undercover police never bust the seller but they always bust the buyers. I remember the neighbor mother pulled a long gun on me because I came back visiting my old apartment and my old hood at around 3am. After some talking she remember me and my family. She said I almost gave her a heart attack because I was up to no good and thought I was causing trouble. Then later on came V Street, street racing. Every time I look back at this stuff it bring back memory's.....

Do not move to DC unless you don’t mind horrid traffic , no parking , a ton of bikers always in your way , people crossing the street on green light , rats , no drive thrus. If you are use to going to that drive thru Starbucks , McDonald’s and Dunkin you can forget that unless you want to drive 45 minutes out and there are a TON of those speed cameras EVERYWHERE ! So if you are new driving around the area just keep it ar 25 mph or get 500 tickets in the mail. And just know you have to triple your time running errands bc the horrid traffic and parking will take up hours of your time. I also heard car jacking are huge here. Customer service is very rude as well so don’t expect good CS. Just a miserable place to live. Can’t wait for my 2 months left on my contract are over wjth. I won’t be coming back. Ever.
