Hey I would like to hear more about productivity level, evaluations, and progress notes and deeper details. Also I would Iike to know what's it's like being a minority in the field of occupational therapy and if this career can help pay off the amount it cost to obtain the degree in greater details I feel like it's really hard to find information on those two topics.

I think i really love the hand therapy outpatient setting. Is there a lot of job opportunities for OTs in this area? Job availibility always seems huge for the snfs and home health settings

Im trying to pursue a career in OT the pediatric side of it and your videos are making me extremely excited !! I have an interview with an early intervention program as an OT assistant and I am very nervous.. any tips ???
@LovelyyOT6 жыл бұрын
Hey being nervous is part of the process lol , but dont let it take over ! Im recording new videos today and the rest of the week and interview tips is on the list to film! :) But just like any interview be professional , dress to impress, ASK QUESTIONS ! about the company and the Job, practice if you need to with someone :) STRENGTH AND WEAKNESS QUESTIONS IS VERY POPULAR
@avengers4life4ever756 жыл бұрын
Also, usually the first question is why you want to become an OT. What type of OT you want to be or currently interested in. Plus, work ethic/studying habits. Question on group work, ‘how well you work in groups’, why you applied to this particular school (don’t say location as the primary example, be more descriptive than that- My mistake!), difference between OT vs PT- supposed to be a tricky question according to the interviewer (prepare to give examples of what an OT does in different settings- I messed up on this as well because I did not gave correct answers to Geriatrics OT). I only shadowed pediatrics at the time, so I only gave examples based on that setting. Also, casual questions such as where you live and where are you going to stay during the program. That sums it up based on my experience!

I heard you only need a bachelor’s over there for OT and PT. You guys are so lucky! Here in the U.S, a masters degree is required for OT. Doctorate’s for PT.
@emilygleeson70876 жыл бұрын
Avengers4life 4ever wow really! Yeah PT is just a bachelor with a really high entry score, and that’s all. Nothing like the process of getting into dentistry or medicine at all. That’s interesting! Wish it was the same for you guys.

Avengers4life 4ever and same for OT- just a high entry score because it’s a competitive course.

Hi! I've always been passionate about being a PT or OT since I care for my disabled grandma but ever since entering college I've been really discouraged and doubting if I am smart enough to actually get through the journey of all the schooling!!! I wasn't the brightest in high school so I'm not so sure if I'm smart enough to get the degree :( Help me! Or please make a motivational video :((((((
@katleengeeal40522 жыл бұрын
they say that you can do anything if you put your mind through it but is that really true? ever since my sister moved out, it's just been me and my mom to take care of my grandma but most of the time my mom is at her 8-5 job and I'm left to take care of my grandma. It gets really overwhelming because I'm currently just completing general eds and I'm already getting overwhelmed having to study while taking care of my grandma. Escpecially now since you said you need to be spending A LOT of time studying. She also has dementia so it could get really hard sometimes and really take a toll on my mental health. Can I really do this?

Hi I’m thinking of being an OT, I also happen to be in a wheelchair (Spinal cord injury). I’m wondering if I could still do well and if I am at a disadvantage as I won’t be able to lift heavy objects? Do you think I could still be a OT?

Do OT’s get an office? How often you get an assistant? How often you have students observe you?
@LovelyyOT6 жыл бұрын
OTs work in many different settings and positions and every setting is different; I have a desk that I work at with my laptop, depending on where you work you will have assistants, if you work in hospitals and SNFs, you will have OT assistants to supervise, as far as students, it all depends on when the opportunity presents itself, I havent had the opportunity yet but am sure it will happen and you also need to practice for at least a year before taking a student.

@avengers4life4ever756 жыл бұрын
Actually, not all OT really have to deal with that sort of thing, only in home care, nursing facilities, and even rehab/urgent care. If you work in private clinical settings such as Pediatrics, you don’t really have to deal with any of those stuff. The only messy ‘task’ in a pediatric private clinic that I saw as a shadower was tooth brushing. That’s it. There is of coarse eating and feeding goals, but that is total doable. OT is a great field and very broad, so don’t limit yourself to just Nursing home facilities, home care, and rehab.

@LovelyyOT6 жыл бұрын
Salary varies based on a lot of factors such as setting, location , experience. I can not say for sure what everyone gets however, I know you should be getting paid at least high 30s an hr to low 40s to start.
@avengers4life4ever756 жыл бұрын
From what I heard in California, it is similar as well but mostly in the 40s or 43ish range each hour. That is not bad though for starters in any profession.

Right now, I am reapplying to OT for this year’s cycle. I applied 2 years ago to three OT schools, got called in for an interview last year, but got denied there. Because of this, I went back to school at a community college for the past year and a half or so to retake a few major pre-reqs such as Anatomy, physiology, and Stats in order to improve my grades for those classes. I had a C for those classes which is not good at all for grad schools in general. So I went back to improve that, I also taken several more pre-req classes in order to stay competitive and broaden my choices of OT programs. Any advice for reapplying? Do you think I’ll get in this time around? The schools that I previously applied to where in the LA area, so I’m guessing those schools are really competitive?

This reminds me of a blog post I recently wrote about my love hate relationship with OT. The paperwork and meetings or unpaid overtime expectations definitely are hard. Licensing in the US is hard with a different license for each state. But not all countries are like that. Only the US. The fact no-one knows what OT is, is why I wrote a book to help explain it. You can find my book: "Healing Your Life Through Activity - An Occupational Therapist's Story" on amazon and other online bookstores.
@LovelyyOT6 жыл бұрын
I will def check the book out , thank you. I started this channel because of just that. I felt that theres not enough OTs out there making enough noise :) and teaching about this career.

You are right. I have started a KZbin Chanel for the same reason. I need ideas of what to do videos about, hence finding your video :) How long have you been an OT? I'm sad to still be hearing OTs say "No-one knows about OT". I've been an OT for 27 years. Things should have improved in 27 years.
