Using the 360 Studio and exporting the reframed video in 2560 X 1440 resolution and ProRes422 format gives nice quality, at least for KZbin amateur 1080p videos. The quality is much better than 720p resolution. I think you zoom A LOT to detail for such camera. I don’t know about the GoPro 9 but my DJI Osmo Action records 4K and if you zoom a lot in detail loose quality as well. You have to crop the maximum 1080p in order to have some nice quality. It is the same for this camera as well. Also I saw another comment about connectivity problems with the phone. For sure such camera needs a powerful phone if you want to take advantage of it. The fact that you can see your footage without download the video in your phone is priceless and really useful, but you cannot do it in an old phone. I have a Samsung Not 9 (which is more than 2 years old) and works just fine. Also it works fine without phone connection. I use it with my motorcycle and it is really versatile, as you can reframe your footage in post production nicely. My only (expected) ‘issue’ is that it produces huge files, so you must choose what to film and what not. In this aspect it cannot be used easily as core or main action camera, in my opinion at least

I think you misunderstood me. I want to upload 360° spherical videos not flat full-HD ones.. If you create flat videos I am totally on your side, the resolution is good enough to get your social media likes. However, if you use the spherical video and view it with a virtual reality headset the viewport/section of the sphere you are looking at feels like 720p or lower. And that is the issue. I'd like to use a 360° camera to shoot 360° content and view it like that.

@@nee.8352 no cropping will be in a lower resolution. This meant that when you project a wide FOV onto a flat plane (2D video) the resolution is good enough. However as soon as you start to zoom in or crop you will end up with a resolution that is incapable for serious usecases.

I am a novice, just looking for a good quality very light easy to hold videocam, i like vertical. I wish you gave more basic info, size of screen, lag time from on to shoot etc. battery time? etc.

I dont know abou VN or iMovie. I recommend editing the videos on the insta360 studio app on a mobile.

You will have to use the app every time. The files recorded onto the SD card are in 2x 180° fish eye format.

Sneaking a camera on a roller coaster is not a good idea. Usually, parks have strong policies against loos items on rides. So, not only do you risk being thrown out by the park, a "small" action camera can also become a deadly projectile when lost and propelled towards people on the ground. Therefor, I only recommend cameras which can be securely mounted to your body and will be accepted by some parks. In other words. GoPro with chest strap is the way to go.

A clear con for me is the need of a powerful smartphone to get all the nice little features of video editing within ithe insta-app. So you need the One X2 for 500 Euro and a smartphone in the same price range for editing. Premiere plug-ins are nice but with 300 Euro a year Premiere is not a typical product for average consumers. Studio works fine but seems to be the stepchild for Insta...

My Insta 360 X2 got water in the front lens after being under for 30 seconds for the first time. The battery and USB compartment was fully sealed. And the unit never got water in those areas. The front-facing lens is forever fogged with water. The unit continues to run fine, just with one camera forever blurry.

How durable is this thing? I'm thinking of a 360 camera mainly for snowboarding but looking at this I'm not so sure it can whitstand the abuse of extreme sports as good as gopro. Does it come with some lens protection at least? Also, there's a known issue with overheating on the one R which often causes fogging of the lens, is this issue still present? At what temperature does this run?

There are lens protectors yes. I have no data about extream usage it in cold weather.

The thing with “recommending” is kind of hard. When it comes to resolution and workflow I would recommend the Insta360 Titan, however this camera costs about $16k, so I won't recommend it based on the price.

The device uses Wifi to connect to your phone, which then uses cellular to connect to the internet.

Since I did not test the GoPro max I can't tell. On paper however it comes down to how you plan to use the camera. Action based or more casual.

I know that but what's the point of a special Video camera when only using one side? Get a GoPro instead. As said when creating vr tours (which requires 360°) the resolution just does not work.

@@MontaeMontana Most of those webcam features industries wide were added in the hights of the pandemic when work from home was a global phenomenon. Nowadays this situation has relaxed itself by a lot. You can now also buy regular webcams again, as supplies have caught up with demand.

How are you getting to a factor of 2? If you devide a 360 5.7.k image into 2 you would end up with a 180* degree image but you don't get a FOV that wide.
