wonderful review. I use mine for fun, you occasionally accidentally get some really good footage but more luck than judgement. The new computer I bought to handle the insta 360 one x2 blue screens more than any other I have ever had as it almost sets itself alight trying to handle the video. I use my Ricoh Theta Z1 for serious quality but it doesnt have presets the insta has, so all in all the insta really is - is an expensive toy! Oh I forgot. There seems to be a sweet spot but unfortunately that changes with light, distance etc so no rule of thumb.

I so wanted to like the Insta 360 X2. I create motorcycle and travel vlogs and the camera angles you can get on the bike are amazing. But every example I had seen the quality was so poor and I couldn't get my head around how to color grade it to match my other work. Then I tried to convince myself I would just use it for B-roll -- but again I couldn't justify the quality drop. Thanks for confirming my assessment. I will stick to getting the extra angles with the drone. A lot more work but I won't be embarrassed by the footage.

A good review of it from a professional film-maker. I bought one because I am a lone photo-vlogger and it gives me more scope to inject some new stuff into my videos, but oh, the Premiere implementation is horrid. I had to upgrade from a 6core to 12core processor to make it vaguely usable. I have crash after crash of the Windows Studio software and regular inability for the camera to connect to my phone, so much so that I lost 30 minutes on the last shoot with it refusing in the field and then it automatically connected once I got back to the car. This is certainly not the first time it's done that. The exposure controls are barely adequate on the camera and grading it is awful. The stitch line is horrid in some situations and invisible in others and there is no way on earth I would use the lens guards to just make that worse! Thanks for the vid. Liked and Subscribed.

@pliis fi I took off the lens guards as well, I was getting a lot of ghosting in blue skies. I definitely think they diminish the quality of the video. You can see it in this video at the 4:30 mark Insta 360 One X2 Problems and Tips - See it in use while hiking in the UAE. I will not be using them unless there is a high chance of damage, then better to be safe, but normal use it will degrade the video.

In my opinion it is an action camera meant primarily for outdoor use with a lot of light. It suffers indoors and I don’t think that is what it was designed for. The lens condoms are absolute rubbish. I have the One X but I haven’t used it a lot because that model is not waterproof and this past summer all of my “action” was paddle boarding. Overall I think 360 cameras are a bit gimmicky. I still want a One X2.

The audio quality of this youtube video is very poor. I understand you kept raw audio from the device to demo how it is, but because it’s so poor, I think you should have switched to higher quality audio capture after a brief demo from the device. Do you use any audio post-production to normalize the volume because it’s loud in some parts, and too quiet in others? Please take this as constructive criticism for you to improve for next time.

See that's how I friggin feel, sea sick from it. What's it like to make video where you just try to use the thing to get different camera angles. Like can you record video with it so you capture everything but then edit it to make the film seem like you recorded it with a regular camera. I don't care about he special effects or letting people know I'm using a 360 camera. The whole idea to me is to just make sure you can use the best shots and angles in editing instead of recording the best shot or angle on the spot, that's permanent. You get what I'm saying? Can you get rid of the the slowly zooming in crap and moving around stuff but just make it seem like a regular camera so you can use it to make sure you just get the best shots in editing? Gosh I feel sick from it
@SladeTakalaLamey3 жыл бұрын
You can pick angles and stick with them, you can pan from one shot to the other, but unless you are willing to stick to a very wide angle you will loose a lot of resolution very quickly. It's 5.6K but that covers the whole sphere. So if you pick a tight angle you will be back to 1k quite quickly. (It's like optical zoom in old-shool digital cameras). I have to say I am getting more fond of it as time goes on. I am not trying to use it for stuff it was never meant for. As a 360 camera it's pretty cool, but it's a bit gimmicky and I'm sure a fad.

Not to mention he doesn’t quite even understand how to use it. The stitch lines are harsh because he used the lens guards without enabling the accessory stitch. Literally one button press and those stitch lines would be gone. It pays to understand the tool well before criticizing it. The onex2 is definitely far from perfect, but it’s not as bad as he makes it out to be for what it is.
