Pros and Cons On Moving to Texas!

I just moved from LA to Dallas 8 months ago. Best decision I ever made. Red state too, I love it. Perfect place for my son to grow up at. The people are way more friendly too. LA used to be a vibe.... that sure has changed. I even make more money in Texas doing exactly what I was doing in LA. So, it's a win-win.

I moved to TX three years ago from So-Cal. Politics aside, no contest. If you have kids, and work a lot, no contest. You can take a Wednesday off and take your kids to world class beaches, or hit up Universal, Disney, Knotts or Six Flags, or the Long Beach Aquarium. If you can't take an extended vacation cause of work, you can take a long weekend and take your kids to Big Bear, San Diego, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Vegas, Sequoia, Yosemite, Arrowhead, Pinnacle, Channel Islands, Death Valley. You can be in Los Angeles, and be in the San Gabriel, San Bernardino, or Santa Monica mountain ranges in 20 minutes to 60 minutes from downtown LA. If you're in TX, you're SOL. You're gonna take your kids to the mall and to eat ice cream. You're gonna pay for pest control, heating and air, tree cleanup, and your either going to be mowing or paying for landscaping. And Texas crime is bad. More murders in TX than CA every year single year. And Houston and Dallas magnitudes more dangerous. Spider sense all the time. Except for Yosemite, all of the aforementioned are reachable from So-Cal in 3-4 hours.

nice mini breakdown of pro and cons- about socal- pretty accurate as of now. as for tx i think you won't know until you get there how it fares out. with that said i suspect texas to be up in coming in houses cost in major cities since lot of videos are promoting Texas as the next "golden state" to CA. you will find traffic becoming more common there soon. I think whatever works for families. at the end of the day, most of us don't want to pay an arm and leg just for a house and still need to deal with crime. just no sense. Whatever increases your quality of life, make the jump 💪🏼💪🏼

Good list. We own homes in both states, and your list seems accurate. It all depends what is important to you and your families. I am assuming guns are important to you since it was on both lists, and Texas is definitely more liberal about gun policies. So, if that is a dominant factor, you are making the right choice. Personally the weather and a diverse culture are more important to me. Also, Texas property taxes suck because of a lack of other sources of income, such as a state tax. This was a big change after having a home with Prop 13 protections in CA, which limited the tax bill increase to about 1%/year. We saw a $7000 increase in the property taxes in one year on the TX property (Austin suburb). But because of the decrease in value of homes there saw that property taxes decrease $1500 last year. So we have a net $ 5,500 increase in 2 years. In CA we have seen about a $5,000 increase in property taxes in the last 25 years,

A great perspective for a lot of people to take from. It’s not perfect for everyone. We are really advocating for a lot of veterans to go to the state as they would not pay property taxes if they are rated at 100% disability. Which a lot of veterans do deserve to have.

You forgot to mention how ridiculously expensive insurance is in CA. A lot of insurance companies pulled out their business because it’s costing them too much to insure homeowners. If you live in an area that is prone to fires, forget it! They won’t want to insure you!

California is undeniably, beautiful, yes! But unfortunately, the mountains are infested with homeless people, and no one can afford to take their kids out to have a great time. That’s what we have a problem with.

If that were the case there would be no tourism industry, Tahoe, Big Bear and Mammoth wouldn't do a fraction of the business that they do. Haven’t watched the video just came here to say both these states and super impressive in terms of their natural resources, economic productivity, and access to global trade. Only the Chesapeake Bay Area matches them in terms of mega regions imho. California has the redwoods though so I’m very arbitrarily give it to Cali because those trees are the oldest living organisms on earth.

LOL, you're in for quite the surprise moving to Texas. Good luck. Yeah, you'll save some money, but you'll learn about Texas weather real quick. Hope you enjoy the tornado warnings, or hale beating your car to a pulp, or 110 degree with humidity, or....I could go on. I lived there for a little over a year and couldn't wait to get back to Cali. I've lived here for 22 years and I wouldn't trade what we have for a bigger home; but then that's not where my value system is. You'll need a bigger home because most of the year the weather flat out sucks, But, if you want to collect "things" Texas would be great, I can accumulate lot's of possessions there., That said, I"ve never not been able to enjoy the outdoors due to a forest fire. Santa Clarity is not representative of all of SoCal. And LAX isn't the only airport in Socal. Long Beach and John Wayne are two very easy airports to get in and out of...def easier than DFW. Look, you made a fun video, especially for the CA haters; but you're being a little facetious about a lot of your points so that kind of negates how helpful it is. Go to Texas, hopefully it works out and you don't experience buyers remorse realizing how good you had it in CA. Thanks for your service, btw.

I was able to buy a home in dfw Cash.. where it would be a measly down payment in Cali.. Home has appreciated 55K since I bought not including all the upgrades and fixing I have done.. so.. I think I may just become a real estate investor and have my tenants pay for my Cali home in a few years.. unless Cali turns into a s hole its aiming to be.

Forgot homeowners insurance is starting to reach Florida numbers. Believe reason why people are now leaving Texas is not as affordable as it once was. Central Texas is flash flood ally so yeah insurance is high with high property taxes. Wait till there a drought, all them lakes and rivers do dry up especially when water restrictions kick in with high fees for water wasters. Good paying jobs are somewhat harder to find and min wage is still $7.25/hr. Still hard to achieve a $100k salary unless have a profession. Car registration fees are expensive. Just because it sounds great doesn't always mean it is. So we decided to come back home to California after 5yrs. People say if not a Native Texan then you'll never fit in.

Unfortunately not everything is correct in what you said! I Live in Santa Clarita and right now (same as every year) prior to 4th of July the whole city is in full display of the American flag. I get why you're leaving CA - however some areas (such as Santa Clarita) is more Republican than the rest and is a great place to live in!
