Mechanic at Honda said they know when you've " flashed " your ecu. You ever mod your android phone? You look at the root menu and it says tampered? Not tampered? Locked or unlocked.? These are all the types of ways that we probably leave trails for them to see or their system to pickup on. Thats just a guess, he didn't say how but i'm sure they simply hook it up to their main system program thingy and uploads your cars data report to headquarters lol. Mainly for data in r and d no doubt. Honda would want that type of feed back from their cars if they cant get it from customer to dealer to Honda. Thats my best guess, he only said laughingly too, as he walked away " oh hell yeah we can..." I was concerned i took my car in for thr AC condenser fix, its under warranty but i was flashed and no time to take it off. plus my car had its intake on, and a few other things that i thought would flag them to blame the condenser fix on. Well he opens my hood looks down sees my 27won intake... " Oh NICE!!!" Then when he gets in to take it back , he freakin kicks my Ktuner 1.2 out of the obd 2 plug in.... 🤦♂️. Turns the car on and honda hack was on the screen 😳. I said oh dude wait ... He laughed...took the car back updated my software with it tuned even...put the condenser in and tried to help track down the misfire my car was having . They can be dicks at any point along that line ... he wasn't. Its definitely a way for them to get out of some major fixes but its also a logical type of thing. Because you put an exhaust on chances are that didnt make your condenser go out right ?

Rev hang is what’s going to save your synchros in the transmission. Yes Honda can tell if you flashed the car. There’s a serial number that gets changed. Honda checked my ecu and said the ecu id didn’t match the original.
@sdalexander85053 жыл бұрын
How would rev hang save your synchros? If you are shifting to a gear with the revs further off from where they match the speed that gear is spinning? Aren’t your synchros doing more work to slow down the output shaft?
@OGAwsomSauce3 жыл бұрын
@@sdalexander8505 when you turn off rev hang the rpms drop so fast that you start having mesh issues and get bad grinds. When it’s floating it shifts way smoother. There’s a slight bump in rev but it’s not going to hurt anything.
@sdalexander85053 жыл бұрын
@@OGAwsomSauce you mean when the revs drop too fast and you shift late, then you get a lurch as the revs have to go back up? Yeah, that’ll lead to a pretty rough shifting experience. My gripe with the car is how inconsistent the speed of the drop is with rev hang and the DMF. The A/C putting extra load on the engine with pull revs faster as well. It’s so different based on varying conditions that you can never get a real muscle memory routine out of shifting the car.
@sdalexander85053 жыл бұрын

@@TdaKid yeah so I heard I live in Indiana so will c I just hope Honda comes up with a fix soon for this problems
@xTWISTED_WAYZx3 жыл бұрын
The 1.5t and all DI engines have this issue afaik. Also, you have a huge law suit they won awhile back for the 1.5t engines. unlimited milage for up to 6 yrs past the purchase data. I contacted one of the lawyers on the team that helped with the ruling for them. There are certain criteria that the suit laid out for Honda to navigate pretty much. If you hear whirling noises...etc.... Im tuned tsp stage 1 - 1.5t 2017 touring. Im at 180,000 miles and this is what i have learned. If you have a new car and its oil gets diluted then by all means you should be concerned about that certain vehicle. However, i use only the best oils and fuel is always 91+ if i'm running ktuner. I do my best to find clean gas though regardless of 89, 91 ... I also change my oil every time i see my oil life hit 15% or i notice it becoming much darker as normally it does. Also if you notice more oil than what you put in it then i would drain, change filter and keen am eye on it a bit more. Its not an ideal situation but it is an inherent one with DI engines and as such there is a certain level of acceptable dilution. You start to burn out plugs or misfires from it then by all means they are gonna have to fix that. I'm pretty sure they have managed to update, and also repair the major problems that plagued the 1.5T's with this dilution problem. I suppose that the point i'm getting at is dont let it ruin your time with this gen. They are on the hook for it, and as such the repair job is on them. Nobody wants to have their ride go down but again they can perform a repair that minimizes its impact. You will more likely run into bigger issues by the time this becomes a concern. The bigger issue id focus on is heat soaked engines and minimize the amount of it. Heats a real killer for this engine and its power output. Make sure you run good clean gas- it's sensitive to that for sure. Pay attention to maintenances, keep the plugs fresh, fluids new, and don't WOT from launch every stop sign. ( i drive the shit out mine, i never just slam the pedal down from the start). To finish with a piece of mind. I was having the valves adjusted awhile back and i was sitting in their waiting room for a few hours. I over heard a customer who brought her car in finally . She had bought one of the new Honda Clarity. She destroyed it. I asked that service guy " so what happened to her new car ? " He said its f'n blown...🤔😳😳 What did she do i asked...? She called in saying there was to much oil in her car and they told her to bring it in. She drove another 10k on it before she came in. Blew up her plug in hybrid clarity lol...😂 i said why was there more oil in it ? don't you guys service it ? He said yeah , it had oil dilution problems ... I walked off like wtf am i worried about then lol. Don't let that ruin your experience in this fun ass car. Enjoy it and it loves to drive. Cars will come and go and yes some early 1.5ts suffered an early death to such a stupid issue. Honda has a lot variations in this 1.5t im sure over the entire production time and all the different variations of the engine they have managed to minimize that concern to a reasonable inherent nature of the Di engines.

I bought my 2018 Civic Si about 2 months ago from Honda and got Honda Care. You mentioned that upgrading an aftermarket exhaust doesn't void the warranty. I been debating on getting the Greddy DD-R, but have been very cautious because the service contract says an exhaust does so its been back and forward with the wife on if its worth getting. If I understood what you said as long as its a cat back and doesn't require a tune or anything else I should be fine as far as my Honda Care goes? I just want my car to sound more aggressive and will look into a CAI or other mods later down the road. Plus the HDMI exhaust is not for me lol.
@TdaKid3 жыл бұрын
Honda has to physically prove that your exhaust was the reason why something would happen to the engine that would void warranty. My Honda where I went to said it technically would void it but only for the exhaust part. They said everything else would be fine. Ex: if I have an exhaust leak I would have to pay for it outta pocket. Honda won’t cover that.
