That goes for any country you want to buy a house in. Rent and get a good idea where you would prefer to buy a house in, or whether you want to buy there after living in country for a while.

A little late to the party but I just tuned in and you guys are hilarious! I'm LMAO! first question, are you, attorneys? I was a tad bit confused by Al's comments and Esther you are a friggin gem!! Stronzo, OMG, you crack me up! second, my family's heritage is from Calabria but the last name of my great-grandfather was misspelled when he immigrated to the US in 1900 so I am having a hell of a time trying to trace him. I was successful in finding my great-grandmother but I can't find a record of her marriage so I am stalled and may need to break down and hire a genealogist as you suggested. If I can prove my lineage, I can obtain dual citizenship. In the meantime, I am going to visit again in the fall and maybe try to look you guys up :) this was so informative and entertaining, I thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you :)

Hi, I own a house in Bagheria and I pay two taxes a year, one is the garbage tax and the other is a city tax (Tari & Imu)

Unlike the USA, not a property tax...I have in Aci Catena the same two plus a TV tax on my electricity bill

I think that is great if the city is very involved in all processes of renovations. Keeps the property value up. I am in California and it is very strict here, the city has to approve your color scheme. I’m all for that, I don’t want to leave next doors to a pink house 😅

It's pretty crazy and tempting to look through hundreds of properties under $50,000 on immobiliare. But for three months a year I think we'll stick with monthly vacation rentals in the $2000 a month range. Less hassle, more freedom.

Grateful that property tax does not exist (very high here in Vancouver) and the fees/bills for gas/electricity/water/tv/internet/garbage are expected. I assume that these fees/bills would vary depending on the size of the house? City house versus country house with land? Could I ask you to please quote the prices of anything in euros (not dollars)? Since you have viewers all around the world, we could convert the euro amount into our country's currency. Grazie mille! :)

Talking about banks, I will make you laugh, first time visiting Sicily 20 years ago,when visiting a bank I spent 1 hour trying to get into the bank where you need to take off all metal from yourself and go through doors, well I took off all metal that I was wearing and it kept telling me I could not go through and try again, I did this so many times and it kept going off. I got so annoyed that I told them I was going to strip down to being naked, they then came out and let me in.
