One thing I’m considering is a law degree . You only need a bachelors and a passing grade on LSAT to start. Or you could get a paralegal certificate from a university (usually $1000 to $3000) and work as a paralegal. An accounting degree would be beneficial in either of those positions.

I would highly recommend for grad school, instead of getting a masters in accounting people should consider an MBA with a concentration in accounting. My first round of college, I went with a bachelor's degree in art. I love art, it is truly my passion, but I realized much too late that I did not want to convert that into a career. Also I wanted something that is stable so I can AFFORD to be an artist, not be a starving one. In other words, learn an in-demand skill that will provide a balanced life. The past three years I have been slowly taking prereqs to go into healthcare. But the further I go a long, the more I see that I don't think it is for me.... I'm in my mid twenties now and I realize I should not limit myself explore different waters.

The other part to that is the country has always outsourced labor, but are now looking for countries whose citizens will go to UAE and work for the lowest of the lowest salaries. Pause: I'm watching this video not because I'm an accountant but because I support you and I know that your video is just going to be good anyway lol. I have a Bachelor's in Information Technology (because I love art, creativity and computers) but haven't worked in that field yet smh 🤦. I was expected to get my Masters because I always excelled in school but I just didn't want to lol. I'm from Mississippi but moved to the Memphis TN area where I worked in Human Resources for a private company. I wore every hat possible in that company. I WAS the corporate office (payroll, accounts Payable and receivables, state audits, bank reconciliations, drug testing and the list goes on and on. Lol I hated Memphis but I stayed at that job so I could build my resume because Memphis don't like to pay ya. I said it's time to step out of my comfort zone so I just picked up and moved to the Dallas area and been here almost a year (no husband or kids so it's easy for me to just leave). Unfortunately, I haven't gotten the high paying career I thought I would have by now. I've just been working contract HR jobs. I may have to see what another city/state holds because I said I would give it a year here. 🤷 Being in my 30's, I often say I'm not where I should be in my life career wise or personally because you can't help but to compare yourself to others sometimes but I have to remind myself to stay prayerful and everything doesn't happen on my time but God's time. I'll get there. Dang, I didn't mean to type this much lol. PLAY!

Hey Suga! I didn’t know you were in Dallas! 🙌🏾 I’m originally from there ☺️ have you thought about signing up with a recruiter? Not sure if you’re on LinkedIn but they usually swarm on there looking for new talent! I pray God blesses you with an amazing job soon! Fast & pray on it. At the same time, google some black professional groups in your area, and start networking. That way you can get a connection with a job that’s hiring through someone in the group! I can’t wait to hear about your blessings Hun 🙌🏾

@@FromHeadtoCurve Yes girl I've been here almost a year. Just picked it randomly. I am with an agency and she's working trying to find me something. I have been on a couple of assignments. She's working on finding something permanent. I'm definitely praying and leaving it in God's hands because he can open doors that others try to keep closed. I am trusting in Him! Thank you so much for the encouragement, you don't know how much that helps. I will look into those groups because you are right, networking is key. And strangers will help you sometimes quicker than people you call friends. Some people won't help fearing you will surpass them. Smh It's funny, I was on LinkedIn for years and just deleted my account about a week ago because nothing was coming to fruition. You're genuinely awesome and I don't think that about too many women lol. Thank you again! 😀

This video confirmed my decision to become an accountant, I’m nervous but I’m excited. I’m finishing up all my certifications this year and January 2022 starting university it feels like a long time and I get depressed and worried because of my age Im 29. But watching your video calmed me down and is making me feel hopeful. I heard the cons but really did not affect me and I think that is a good sign for me. Thank you so much for this video I’m going to go cry now lol

Thank you so much for this video, all of this information just confirmed that I do want to stick with majoring in Accounting. I love that you said accounting jobs aren't scarce or going anywhere, during a research assignment I read a few articles that claim that entry-level accounting jobs would be replaced by AI which made me question if I should continue down this route. After seeing this video, I now am reassured that going for my Bachelor's in Accounting is the right choice for me!

Brandon Ayers I’m 34 as well and just enrolled in classes for my accounting degree. I’ve been in the field as an accounting clerk for over 10 years with no degree. I know school is going to be a challenge, but the opportunities are limitless with that degree behind you. Good luck!

It's wonderful seeing other black female accountants. I've been in the game for over 20 years. My issue is finding a job with a decent salary. I know the biggest problem is location as I'm in an area where jobs are limited in general. The pay scale is low overall for the few available openings (again in general). I have a bachelor's degree and been on the fence about getting the CPA. I'm a single mother of a small child so it's very difficult to stay late or go back to school. Just like you, I have a creative side. I have a side hustle that fulfills that part of me.

Accounting will be a career switch for me but I need a career that offers stability and marketability-no matter the location or how the market is doing!! It’s interesting to hear your take on the CPA-I’ve never heard someone outright say it’s not necessary, and have no desire to pursue it! Makes me wonder if I should..lol. 4 more classes for me

Congratulations on your journey Hun! I hope this is a real nice change for you. One of my good friends that has a CPA told me if you’re not thinking about doing accounting for the rest of your life & moving up the corporate latter then it’s no point getting it. I was shocked when she told me that too. She said the best thing about having it is being able to negotiate more pay...but I’ve been doing that without one. So I guess it’s based on your plans in accounting. Good luck Hun, and I hope you enjoy this career change.
