This is pretty much the number one thing I hear about when talking to anyone about their transition; the MtF crowd go, "wow, women finally feel more comfortable around me and will actually talk to me like I'm a human being, but men tend to be more crass and rude to me", and then the FtM crowd go, "Now very few people talk to me at all unless I talk to them and people seem to care significantly less about me if I didn't already establish a long-lasting friendship with them". Which both facts are extremely sad and makes me too nervous to take the next step in transitioning.

@@duncangreywater That really highlights the flaws in our society. But I think trans people notice it more because it's a change rather than it happening to them more than to cis people. It just sucks all around. Although I've heard that women who don't wear makeup tend to be ignored by men, so I guess that's good there can be some agency, not that it should be something that limits your decisions in how you express yourself. I don't wear makeup, and although I don't go out much, when I do I'm not really approached by men other than to tell me about God. But I don't know if that's more to do with not wearing makeup or more to do with being in a wheelchair and out with my mum. But either way, I wouldn't let it stop you from being yourself. Especially as this is only mostly about how strangers treat you, not your friends.

love the collabs from the united queerdom. i am 40+ now. started mid 30s with a lotta diy and resistance on all fronts - took me forever to learn i can never be as cute as you all. but that is also part of the process. now i am okay. i would not change it for the world - for i found my peace within. and when people have an issue with my existence, i just try to walk away - and if they chase, i bust a kneecap. and walk away. recently people called me milf online. at first i was shocked, now i just lean into it. someone's gotta do all that dommy mommy stuff eh?

As a trans fem living in Oklahoma I can say that this place is not trans friendly in most cases and I've had to hide my transition from work and general social places. I was finally able to come out to friends and family after starting estrogen but it's hard to still have to hide my self over all and I feel like it's stumping my transition which I started later in life in general and that has made it a bit more difficult to deal with but despite that the pros still outweighs I can wake up in the morning and get out of bed without struggling to want to continue on and I can just be happy and relax around friends and family without feeling like I have this big secret from them and I can still explore the beauty that is me in my own space without judgment from the world and that is enough. Always judge the pros and cons before starting transitioning but if you are sure of it and can do so then it is worth it!

As also AMAB trans woman here's my hot take Con: You get all of the cons of interacting with men that women have with less support and even more increased difficulty. For example: Get catcalled and sexually hassled or harassed on the street PLUS have to fear for your life that they are a raging transphobe who might react very poorly to clocking you. Pro: You understand things about yourself and society at large that most people will never get because you've been through the experiences of two entire genders which is not something that most people ever experience. You already took more charge of your own life by transitioning than many people ever have in an entire lifetime.

i'm transfem pre-medical transition (very unfortunately), and the biggest pro for me personally has been a difference in my perspective on life as a whole. there's something so significant yet so minute about looking at a fundamental part of my existence and saying "no this isn't right. i don't want this." something so few people seemingly worship without question, i have grown out of-- escaped. in one motion i've found myself at the top of a mountain of bone and flesh and skin, but i've also stepped over one infinitesimally small bump in the dirt. i'm still the same person with one detail out of place, and that one ant on my fingernail reframes reality itself. idk man shits crazy

People aren't afraid to throw hate out in public there because it's more socially accepted. I can't tell you the amounts of times I go stared down, or insulted/harassed. My hetero male friend I was spending the day with, (amazing by the way, even he doesn't agree he has heard my story and has a understanding and just wishes for me to be happy.) He comforted me by saying, "people have issues here, look maxing is a popular trend and will do everything to tear you down."
