Hi, I live in Calgary for last 7 years. I have been to Vancouver and Toronto and hands down to Calgary. Weather is pretty warm here comparison to what people think - it's sunniest city in Canada with Chinook winds as a great feature

You are just trying to force yourself into loving this frozen hellhole. Chinook is a short term relief and it’s not warm by any measure. In Calgary it’s either cold or super cold. It snows non stop and crazy windy.

FLYING TO INDIA Before covid, Calgary had many direct flights to European and East Asian cities, and from there you just change planes and catch a connecting flight to India. It is not that much more inconvenient than Toronto or Vancouver. Also the Calgary Airport is not a pain in the neck like the Pearson Airport when it comes to waiting in long lines to be processed...

The Calgary Stampede is a con, not a pro 😊 Calgary has two professional sports teams: the Calgary Stampeders for CFL football, and the Calgary Flames for NHL hockey... Calgary has a world's largest Network of indoor public walkways allowing you to walk from one end of downtown to the other without going outside. Calgary also has North America's largest Network of multi-use pathways & bikeways. Bikes are allowed on Ctrains and many buses have bike racks. Calgary has very few vegetarian restaurants, and Calgary's Indian restaurants aren't very good. Calgary has low income bus passes if you are unemployed. The Calgary Public Library gives you $5 of free photocopying or printing every month.

Thank you for your very well researched and very well done video about Calgary. Welcome to Calgary. One thing that you will find about Calgary once you've maybe lived here longer, is that people & strangers are friendlier, and much easier to talk to than in Toronto Montreal or Vancouver... For international connectivity, if you came to Calgary pre-scamdemic, you would have found that Calgary had direct nonstop flights to most major European, and East Asian Airports, and yes that does require a change of flight if you're going to India. If we lobby for it, I am sure there is enough population and demand in Calgary to justify direct flights to Delhi or Bombay over the Arctic, assuming that Canada stops fighting with, or antagonizing Russia. if Canada is still banned from Russian airspace, it will have to be an Indian carrier that provides the service. As far as being a car city, Calgary is very spread out, and requires a carbif you don't put any thought into where and how you live (living mindlessly as opposed to living mindfully). I've lived in Calgary over 40 years, without needing to own a car, as I always pick a Transit-friendly neighborhood that is walking distance to all my amenities. Currently over 97% of my trips, are by foot, bike or Transit. Calgary is very badly planned, but well organized. It is very hard to get to stuff as everything is very spread out, but it is very easy to find stuff and one almost doesn't need a map. As far as employment goes, there is more racial discrimination here then there is in Toronto. Those rentable e-scooters are dangerous and the number one source of injuries found at Calgary hospital emergency depts. Car2Go abandoned Calgary and has not been replaced by any other short-term rental or rideshare service. Calgary has almost 20 million square feet of empty office space, which is enough to accommodate all of Vancouver's financial post 500 head offices! ;-) Car2Go probably left Calgary due to the lack of activity in Calgary's downtown with so much free and vacant office space. many of Calgary's large companies have moved their operations to the US. when it comes to purchasing your own e-scooter or e-bike, Calgary does not have much selection of stores that sell these things. Toronto Vancouver and Montreal are better. Calgary (Alberta) also does not have a provincial sales tax, like there is every other province in Canada. Alberta (Calgary) also does not have health care premiums like I believe they pay in British Columbia and Ontario (Vancouver and Toronto) Calgary only has 3½ hospitals covering a city of 1.4 million people and almost a thousand square kilometers. in terms of shopping Calgary does not have much choice, as Vancouver Toronto and Montreal have a much more diverse selection of retailers. when it comes to Indian groceries, Calgary does not have as much selection as Vancouver Toronto or Montreal, and Calgary does not have any decent full service Indian restaurants. Calgary does not have any five star hotels, and the Calgary's four-star hotels are relatively small, when compared to Toronto Vancouver or Montreal. Calgary's convention Center is also very small. far too many things in Calgary are built wrong upside down or backwards and nobody in Calgary seems to notice. for example Calgary's upside down airport has its terminal on the northeast side of the airport, but the city is southwest of the airport. While the Calgary airport is only 7 km from downtown, the terminal is 18 km from downtown by taxi....(maybe it was a taxi driver that decided where to locate the terminal! ;-) Like this there are thousands of things that are built wrong, and done wrong in Calgary that no one questions. University of Calgary is not a good place for students, as it is more geared for research. most government and public services in Calgary are very badly run, disorganized, and inconvenient, when compared to other places. Calgary only has 17 public library branches, covering an area of almost a thousand square kilometers or 1.4 million people, making it the worst public library system of any major city in Canada. When I first got my adult public library card, out of the 20 books I requested, the Calgary public library did not have 14, and had to order them from smaller city libraries outside the city, so CPL does not have a good selection of books.. Calgary only has one major degree granting University serving a city of 1.4 million. This compares to let's say Canada's poorest province aka province of Nova Scotia which has 19 degree granting schools, serving a population half of Calgary's size.... that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

if you move to Calgary be careful what neighborhood you move to as not all neighborhoods have schools and you could be charged hundreds of dollars to bus your kids to school. The city government is too inneptt or incompetent to clear the snow off of public sidewalks, even though public sidewalks are city land. They expect the property owner to do it, and if they can't, the property owners are levied very heavy fines. Goods and services are more expensive in Calgary than any other major city in Canada. Of any major city, Calgary has the most expensive groceries, clothes and retail items, haircuts, restaurant food, car repairs, dental services, appliance and household repair people etc... The rip-off culture is very strong in Calgary, as of all major cities in Canada, Calgary mechanics and Calgary dentists are far more likely to rip you off than mechanics and dentists in any other major Canadian city, doing all kinds of things such as fixing things that don't need fixing, or pretending that they have done repairs that were never done two things that never needed fixing.... Alberta car dealers are also much more likely to rip you off in numerous different ways, when you buy a new or used car, than car dealers in any other province. And speaking of the rip off culture, Calgary knowingly elected a premier after he was caught defrauding the federal government for office expenses misused for partisan purposes, fraudulent housing allowance claims based on false & illegal residencies, and committing wholesale fraud during the UCP leadership race... If they knowingly elected a provincial government this bad, do Calgarians think the opposition is worse, or do they just like voting for corruption? Calgary seems to have a lot of very costly natural disasters like hail storms, which greatly raise the cost of car and house insurance. Calgary also has more frequent man-made disasters such as flooding due to oil & gas development & clear cutting in Calgary area watersheds, greedy utility companies mismanaging hydro dams upstream of Calgary, and unsustainable agricultural practices which cause excessive runoff into Calgary rivers. Alberta PC governments turned down hundreds of millions of dollars worth of federal flood prevention aid, probably because of either gros incompetence or there is more political support gained by dealing with public disasters after the fact, than spending 1/20th the cost in preventing them. The unconstitutional and illegal covid regulations in Calgary are far worse than the rest of the province, though they are better than Vancouver Toronto or Montreal. Calgary also has many good thanks that they do better than other cities and maybe I will post some of those in a couple of days! 😊

If you are ever desperate for employment, Alberta's minimum wage is $15/hour (thanks to the previous government) though most provinces are catching up to Alberta by raising their minimum wages. Although Alberta has an employment standards act and code, this is rarely enforced, and employers get away with all kinds of abuses towards their employees, from workplace safety, to not paying proper wages.... If you have any issues with your employer, Alberta Employment Standards or Occupational Health And Safety isn't much help, And you will very likely have to fight much harder than you would in any other province. If they investigate workplace injuries or deaths, they usually find ways to remove blame from the employers. Alberta also has the highest rates a workplace accident injuries and deaths, of any province. Alberta is also the worst province with the worst laws for forming or maintaining a union and Alberta unions are generally weaker than unions in other provinces. ALBERTA IS THE HARDEST PROVINCE TO UNIONIZE IN with the worst labor laws and labor standards. If you are desperate for employment, YOU DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT TO WORK FOR ALBERTA'S, AGRICULTURE, FURNITURE NOR MEAT CUTTING INDUSTRIES, as they produce by far largest numbers of injured workers... (they are by far the biggest and most dangerous exploiters of immigrants, and temporary foreign workers which they consider to be disposable) If you are injured on the job, Alberta's Workers Compensation Board, is far more interested in increasing their record profits, than they are in helping injured workers. They are extremely corrupt, and often worse than the offending employers.. All other provinces treat their workers and injured workers much better, than Alberta does. I do not recommend Alberta if you are coming for any type of blue collar employment with a high risk for injury or death. and Alberta slaughter houses had some of the world's worst Covid outbreaks affecting thousands of workers and their families, communities etc...

Employment Insurance discriminates against residents of Alberta, as residents of other provinces receive a larger percentage of their income, for a much longer time. in Alberta I believe (don't quote me) EI pays single people a maximum of 55% of their previous income up to maybe $500 per week for about 6 months? for couples I believe EI pays up to 80%. In the rest of the country EI I believe pays more for much longer then they do in Alberta.

University is in Southwest part of Calgary you can look for a student accommodation near the campus. South west Calgary is overall a very good area to live

Its just not a liveable city cuz of weather. Thats the main reason it is cheap to live here. Overrated on internet.

Bhai thanks a lot for the information. Is it ok for your to comment on racism side of things in general. How is the diversity in Calgary and attitude of locals towards immigrants.

@@SomeKrazyDude4 Diversity in Calgary is good, there are many Indians here especially in the Northeast part of Calgary, In my experience I have not faced any racism so far, local people in general are good here and they are helpful and polite to the immigrants.

I recommend finding a job before moving here, unless you are prepared to move here and create your own opportunity. Due to the numerous boom and bust cycles, and far too many Calgarians being unemployed at one time or another, calgarians have become very entrepreneurial and have a very high propensity to start businesses, charities, NGO's etc. you will find that almost every calgarian has a business card, right down to caretakers and security guards, as most people are trying to do things or start businesses on the side.

I came to Calgary from Pakistan, the one thing I hate about living here is the wind…… it’s hard to keep my turban on my head 🤬

wind turbans can be better secured by taking a large handkerchief and and dying the top of your wind turban to the bottom of your chin! ;-)
