We visited Knoxville in the spring to "knock it off the list" as due diligence in our up-coming move. Well weren't we surprised to fall in LOVE! We had been considering Hendersonville/Murfreesborough/Mt.Juliet to be close to Nashville but Knoxville stole my heart away. This video is so spot on our experience when we were there. Can't wait for spring of 2023!!

We are considering those exact same areas outside of Nashville but due to the cost, I think we need to visit Knoxville and consider areas outside of that city instead. Knoxville does look quite beautiful and we do like the outdoors. I will need to figure out my allergies though. I know it will bad for me! 🤧

I lived in East Knox in the early 1990's for several years and LOVED it! Granted it was quite a while ago, but I really wish I had not moved. My life changed drastically and I am in the West Coast now. I still pine for Knoxville after all these years even though my life is very blessed.

I was born and raised in Knoxville, TN and I had the all American childhood. Most public schools are below standard testing rates, however many are above and the private schools are second to none. Someone asked about humidity ,well everything sticks to you in the shade. They tore down East town mall to build the amazon plant which I hate however I understand for industry, but it is located on the edge of the worst part of Knoxville. Knoxville is a college city, if you don't know what that entails I suggest researching the Vols rivals and never speak of them. The island home area close to Tennessee school for the deaf, the airport and Ijams nature center is where I grew up and in my opinion is the best place to live opposed to west Knoxville where they showed the bulk of that video. West Knoxville is over saturated and the highest priced place to live. Island home has just as nice houses, less hectic and private neighborhoods without densely pact people and traffic. I have since moved from Knoxville to Cherokee lake in the country, no wheel taxes and cheap land.

Good video about the pros and cons. Similar to most cities. As another commenter mentioned id love to know more about specifics about job industry as I’m in aerospace manufacturing and I don’t see much for aerospace near Knoxville when searching google maps. As a native Floridian sick of the heat and costs getting out of control, next time we’re up in Asheville visiting Knoxville will be on my list to check out and see if we enjoy it as much as the Tampa area.

I've visited Knoxville twice recently and finding work was not the issue BUT finding affordable housing be it apartment or house was ridiculous and even if you wanted to pay the over priced apartments finding one that was open was almost impossible!

That's only the case in the last few years. So many people have been moving to East Tennessee since 2020, that the housing prices and rent prices have skyrocketed. Additionally, to cater to higher income movers they have all tried to rebrand as "luxury apartment homes," which inflates the cost. If you're willing to live 15-30 minutes away you can save a lot of money, such as Lenoir City or Maryville, and both places are smaller towns with less crime, less taxes, and lower costs of living.

Im definitely considering checking out Knoxville as my permanent place. I am currently in Murfreesboro. I've done Clarksville, Nashville, Franklin so far in my short time in Tennessee. I like Murfreesboro a lot. But I like mountains and hills. I came to Tennessee from Springfield, Mo. I like the idea of the river too. I have to come check it out. Been there before as a traveling comedian but my time was limited.

I visited Knoxville TN last Labor Day weekend. We stayed at pigeon forge, it was beautiful. We also went to Knoxville downtown and it was lovely there. I wouldn’t mind living there. At the moment I live in Las Vegas, been living there for 16 years now. I need a new change/pace and different scenery. I am so open to move there or Nashville. I also I ride a motorcycle and love love the mountains and open green fields. I left my heart in TN. FYI I would born and raised in Hawaii.

Homes are going to range from $150-$250/ square foot depending on what part of town you’re in. There are nice, safe areas on the outskirts of Knoxville that are on the lower side of that range. I find cost of living to be very affordable when compared to the rest of the country.

I blame the Knoxville PD and KCSO for not doing enough to hammer the inconsiderate jackasses behind the wheel on roads like "I'll Kill Ya Hwy". The only thing that will calm people down behind the wheel is the threat of an accident OR the threat of a ticket. Police here have a duty to use the latter option which makes us all safer BY AVOIDING THE FORMER!

Our schools are overcrowded and the money is being used to build new schools. Problem is they can’t staff the schools 😅. So if you have a family, you may want to reconsider. Lot of bullshit in this... Crime? Please. Been here 23 years and I leave my doors unlocked most of the time. People leave their windows down when parked at the UGO on Chapman Highway. Allergies? REAL! But that goes for the entire SE, I've lived in Charleston and Atlanta, just as bad. Buy some Claritin! 😂 Cheap pay? Cheapest cost of living I've ever seen even though the Fed Govt is trying their level best to destroy that. I've NEVER LIVED CHEAPER in my life than I do here in S. Knoxville. My car insurance is only $350 a year versus $1,100 in Massachusetts!!!!!!! 😲😲 There are only 2 negatives to living here and it's THE WEATHER. Number one it rains a lot!! You must have some indoor projects to keep you busy on rainy days. Number two is the humidity. OMG! The humidity is high enough to knock out a mule from June 15th until as late as Oct 12th. It's WICKED! If you love humidity then this is the place for you my friend! I survive by hanging out at a gorgeous TVA lake almost every night or sitting in front of a box fan with AC going. It has been getting easier after 23 years but if you weren't "born into it", these dadgum dew points will drop you on your knees. 🥵

Unless Knoxville does something about a certain demographic it will always have ridiculous crime rates. I grew up there and my family left in the mid 90's but I would never in a million years raise my daughter in Knoxville now. I have great memories of the city and the surrounding area but it is entirely consumed at this point by "POC" violence and general delusional negligence about what is happening. Locals may admit to you in private about what is going on but most turn a blind eye to it and have for generations at this point..which includes the local and state govt who have a lot of diversity hires in positions of authority. This means your kids will just victimized and they will say it's a "one time" incident and if you or your loved ones get murdered then they will just throw their hands up and say it's unfortunate and move on. Avoid this place.

Any big company moving to a small town is not a good thing. The big company knows that they basically own the small town. How do i know that knoxville is small enough for amazon to be impacted. Because it was mentioned in this video. Knoxville does have very bad air. Right next door there is a huge forest and lots of trees. My advice from a person that has researched the crap out of everything there is to know about moving. Live somewhere that will not cost you a lot. Low property tax. Live somewhere that has a national forest either next to your property or next to your town immediately. Live somewhere that you can live there rest of your life in. For me that means walkable town, animal husbandry, i need my neighbors with chickens, and most of all i need guns, lots of guns. Gun friendly. Live in a place that has either a large lake, river or any waterway that people congregate. This will increase the value of your home, this is great for a water source. Do not live in a city that live off of the night life.

@andreafelton689 the very bad air comes from manufacturing and the fact that east tennessee is made up of valleys and flaplanes and mountains on both sides, this creates pressures and wind formations that allow air to build up and stay there. It is a very interesting phenomenon and it happens rarely around the world. The higher you go the cleaner the air will be on average.

Unfortunate that you do not bother to mention the truly important factors for families with school-aged children and medical/scientific/technical professionals: 1) Secondary schools? Good? Bad? Average? 2) An institution of higher learning? Is there a university? Hello? 3) You mention the dozens of bars and nearly hundred restaurants but neglect to explain why. This is a city in the eastern part of the state, relatively speaking in the middle of nowhere...yet, there is entertainment and food all over downtown? WHY? What's the draw? I guess we'll never know, because you do not explain that in the video. Could it be because of the college students attending the local university? Hm...🤔 4) You go out of your way to talk about the low-paying jobs. You completely ignore the professional community. Are there zero hospitals/clinical or other medical facilities? 5) Speaking of healthcare, does everyone in Knoxville drive to Nashville for healthcare needs because there is no medical community? Or, are the local professionals so awful no one wants to be treated, locally? And, assuming you merely ignore a MAJOR issue for professionals considering a move to Knoxville, are the career roles in Knoxville well-paid compared with other cities? Testing 123? 6) Referring back to #4, are there no career opportunities for scientists, engineers, technologists, et al.? Really? 7) So... lot's of outdoors activities at the lakes and on the river. What? No zoo? No botanical garden? Absolutely ZERO culture? 8) And, whilst we at it...for those of us with families, who want to expose their children to culture... no symphony? No opera? No live theater? No other performing arts? Hm... any museums other than a 'bass fishin' expo?' Art museum? Science center? Nothing??? Really??? We are glad you like to get the "cons" out of the way, first. Hum. You certainly did this much efficiently and impactfully. I was about to turn off the video after your third "con." It was getting so impossibly bad I continued to watch to see just how bad it could get! Honestly, if I were making any life decisions about Knoxville based upon your video, I would NEVER visit there. Your list of "pros" was aimed almost exclusively at tourists. Never mentioning the schools was bad enough. Slighting the most stable populations in America, bar none, "families with school-aged children" was impossibly bad. If anyone paid you to present this video, I recommend they ask for their money back! For the rest of you who are commenting, can ANYONE recommend a video that actually covers the things I've enumerated, above? Please? Any help? We are professionals with school-aged (elementary) children and need some useful guidance. Not how many bars and restaurants there are.

Hey there! This video was a simple highlight reel. In the videos where I spotlight specific areas in Knoxville, I discuss schools and the like. Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinions 😁

@@avitomczak5718 If this is not anything more than a "come visit" reel and you have produced others that speak to the schools medical center, professional careers, et al., please provide a link to such videos. Thank you.

Knoxville scenery is beautiful with the Cumberland Plateau / Mountains to the west-northwest and the Smokies to the east how could you not love it. Knoxville is so much better than Nashville.
