Great video ! I agree with all your points. As someone who moved from the GTA to Orillia during Covid I would say Orillia is a fantastic place to live if you are an avid nature person that appreciates a smaller community. It’s easier to make friends (people are super friendly based off my experience, especially if you have a dog haha) and the quick access to LITERALLY everything is unreal. Costco in 7mins. Beach in 3 mins. Downtown in 5mins. It’s a dream not to sit in traffic getting to places! The ONLY thing I miss from Toronto/GTA is speciality food stores. We would often go to a Greek butcher with incredible meats. Other then that, if you only have the urge visit Toronto a handful of times of a year than orillia is a great place to live.

Some other cons are high property taxes, poor roads with no painted lines, and a City Council that bans everything including ice cream trucks.

I grew up in Orillia it kinda sucked to live there as a teenager. If you have a car of your own and your parents are willing to let you drive hither and yon it might not be so bad but there isn't much for a teenager there. All the cool stuff happens in Toronto or Barrie and the GO Train and Via Rail are not options so you can feel quite isolated. I don't know if they have any inter-city busses anymore. The place is overflowing with elderly people who have retired there. If you are elderly, a sports person (hunting, fishing, skiing etc.) or not pursuing a high paying career you'll fit in. It has a small town feel because the city council deliberately keeps the town small.

Hello, Ryan! Do you think the city is a good place for students to live? I'm applying for a 4-month exchange (August-December) and Orillia is one of the possibilities
@thekiwirealtor2 жыл бұрын
Hey Samuel, yes there are a lot of students in Orillia with the college, university and police academy. It is also a great location as it is closer to attractions like Algonquin park and not too far from Toronto which is good if you are also wanting to travel while you're here. Hope this helps!

Yes it's gorgeous, if you are looking for boat access only property. I believe there were disputes with regards to the dock in Orillia which residents of the island used. Feel free to contact me if there is specific information you're looking for ryan@ryanmegson.com

Orillia has not been able to address the crackheads downtown and homeless people. They are trying, with new housing starts, but the problems continue to plague the downtown core. Makes a lot of sense that OPP moved from downtown to West Ridge. The number of closed stores on Mississauga St is a poor optic, and I'm wondering if lease costs and/or property taxes are too high. Despite these problems, the City has a lot of positives to offer, including a very large East Indian community.

I noticed you didn't post that orillia is the teen pregnancy capital of the entire country, #3 in crime in the entire country and the volume of meth heads is beyond insane.

Dont move here unless you need to study. I fully regret moving to Orillia. It's boring, full of bad drivers and they're generally miserable people. Just don't do it unless you have to. People wouldn't lend a hand if your life depended on it. It just feels very Un-Candadian here.

I live outside and tbh as bad as gravenhurst is it’s a nicer small town feel unlike orillia which feels like a barrie type city full of citieots
