This was very interesting. When I visited Tallahassee some years ago, I was very surprised to see a light snow fall. My sister lives there and she showed me around the city. I also met some people who moved to Tallahassee from Miami. They are very friendly folks. It is a lovely place to visit .

We love it here! Lots of things to do that are off the beaten path and the people are friendly!

There is a great mass of people from southern Florida moving this way because it has gotten to be unlivable in that part of the state. Miami is a trash fire now.

I love the humidity. After living in dry deserts for 25 years, the moisture is welcome. I'll take a 98* day at 100% humidity, over a dry 115 day, every time.

We have definitely gotten used to the humidity. It was a shock to my midwestern hair at first, but a short haircut for the summer months solves that!

Dont believe it when she says 30 miles from the coast makes you safer from hurricanes. Donaldsonville GA, to our north, was torn to shreds by hurricane Michael.

She is right though. I have been in Tallahassee for 20 years. Only the last year and this year hurricanes threatened the city and the worst happens is that about 3 or 4 day power outage. The city never gets devastated. Tallahassee is covered with trees so there is almost no wind damages to houses since trees break the wind. The damage occurs mostly from trees falling on the road or houses. That is the major risk. Flooding is not big danger, either because the ground soaks the rain like a sponge really fast. You have to live next to a pond or something to be really in flood danger. Having said that we are waiting for Helene to landfall in a hour or so. :-) It looks like we are saved again as the eye will landfall about 30 or 40 miles East of Tallahassee as the one last month (August 2024) and last year. But I am sure we will lose power about a week or longer this time. But my jenerator and gas containers are ready.
