One selling point for phone manufacturers is the ability of the phone to capture RAW files. Thank you for this brief introduction to phone raw . I would argue that the camera you ALWAYS have with you is your phone camera. So ..it being able to capture raw data is very useful . The YT only talks about Apple and the default ‘ camera’ however there are other ‘cameras available to your iPhone 12pro such as Halide and several others ...even the Lightroom app has a built in ‘camera ‘ . Those other cameras available to your iPhone 12 Pro Max will produce data files that you might prefer and have other facilities within the camera app itself . The likes of Halide enable a raw and a jpeg of the same shot . It is a a very big subject . As for digital zoom on a phone ...like you say ...don’t do it . I invested in Moment lens for mine and I also use the Moment capture which incorporates raw too. As for the matter of the crop ...well Topaz Gigapixel Ai is your friend . Like a I say ..a big topic to cover however your introduction of raw might be news to many phone users .

Right on the money! I have the same phone, and as long as you understand the limitations you can still get great images, but they do require different processing. I have won club competitions with iPhone images, so they can produce great work. Just don't push them too hard. Great video Anthony :-)

A good explanation of a topic I had not thought about very much. I learned a number of things. The 12 bit verses 14 bit information was new to me. Also, while I have long understood that optical verses digital zoom was much better but I had never really thought about why.

Great information about HEIC and Depth Capture. Just checked my Lightroom mobile app and didn’t realize there is now a Depth Capture setting. Once you select it it changes it from a DNG to a HEIC file.

Well done, fam. Just picked up an iPhone 12. Topaz & Halide are your friends. As is On1 Raw. I'm into street photography/video, and it's all I need. If I need a super duper landscape shot, I'll bust out the Pentax k20. Cool vids, very informative. Subbed. Respect.

I didn't know depth maps were accessible in light room it looks really interesting, would be nice if camera manufacturers were to add lidar sensors to ILC camera's so it worked for those too.

Cool tips Anthony! You should talk about those phones that claim "100MP" and how it's not really a100MP camera. Neat tip about the Depth range mask. However you can do mostly the same thing by putting the radial filter right over the flower.

Nah, it's almost 2023 now 100mp is mp.. and 200mp is coming. Shooting raw in them is just pure quality

This is not a comment on this video. I wanted your thoughts on the Topaz Denoise upgrade to 3.2. They want $49 for it!? Apparently the colors from Raw were worse than we knew. I saw them demonstrated on another channel and this fix was needed, but, don't you think $49 is a bit of a gouge? I think that this is one more reason to consider Nonoise, Say'n
@billinglendaleca50933 жыл бұрын
When the Topaz AI products were originally released they featured free upgrades for life. Topaz changed this about a year or so ago to require yearly maintenance fees for their AI products($49 for a single app and $99 for multiple apps). I was an early purchaser of the Topaz AI suit and was a bit put off by this when I wanted to upgrade to 3.0 and it said "pay up".

Trouble with phones and high megapixel count l is the sensor is so small each pixel is minute . Yeah you can get great pics on a phone in the right conditions but has to be the right conditions, they get the results from software tricks rather than physics Sono much prefer my mirrorless and only use phone as a backup.

I enjoy my iPhone 12 Pro and accept its less resolution and less dynamic range for the ease of not carrying a camera, ease of use and sharing on social media etc. I have a 30 quid Amazon macro lens which works really well aswell. This phone now I believe is almost perfect for holiday snapshots and day to day pictures especially if you use Lightroom to develop raw.

Apple's ProRaw (and Samsung's ExpertRaw) is an AI edited image format. Lightroom DNG are unedited images.

I have an Android Google Pixel 4A (it may be a rebadged Samsung?). I have it set to capture raw +JPEG, but when I upload/import to LR (CC) I discard the JPEGs and use only the raws. I can't see any way to set it for raw-only. I use it rarely because I'm one of those snooty people who sneer at phone "cameras," but it's handy sometimes in a pinch. I find the raw capture is superior so I use it, but I don't notice the raws being muddier or anything, but the fact that I hate phone cameras probably factors in.

I have found a glitch in the Apple Pro Raw DNG file format using the iPhone 12 Pro. If I import the RAW file into Lightroom Classic and open the Map module, the GPS coordinates are incorrect in the metadata thus showing the incorrect location on the map overlay in Lightroom. If I export the same RAW file from the iPhone as a JPG and import the file into Lightroom Classic, the GPS metadata is correct and the Map module shows the correct location. As a result I have had to modify my workflow so when importing Apple Pro Raw DNG files into Lightroom Classic, I also import the JPG versions so that I can use the JPG to update the DNG files GPS by way of dragging the DNG files onto the Map overlay view that shows the JPG file(s).
