The detective thing is freaking me out. I mean, I know I'm face blind. But I normally notice small changes in voices. I'm really, really distressed I didn't pick up on that. The movie was okay, I thought, a little over-dramatic but condenses a lot of problems we have with facial recognition into one very high stakes situation. Cool, cool. The credits actually scared me in a way I'm normally not unless I'm in a crowded place and forgot what colour shirt whoever was with me was wearing. Did people without prosopagnosia notice??? Tell me it wasn't just me. Because if they didn't, cool. Now you know what it's like. But if they did, I remain distressed.

I agree - I've had a moderately severe case of face blindness my whole life, but didn't know it was a thing until I was in my late 30's. When I learned of the condition I realized the huge impact it had had on my behavior, for example, I avoided looking directly at anyone to avoid being placed in the position of having to recognize anyone. I had no idea that I had even been doing that, and it was extremely difficult to break that habit. Like anything, however, there are pros & cons to it. A big pro is that my perception of people isn't based on what they look like, it's based on who they are on the inside, on their personality and values and habits. I like that fact. And the best pro is that when I look across a crowded room and spot my partner of 20+ years, it takes a couple of seconds for me to recognize him. And in those few seconds, I get the pleasure of thinking to myself "Who is that sexy man!?!?" before I realize who I'm looking at. I always get a jolt of happiness when I realize that after more than 20 years together he still gives me butterflies. I love that aspect of having this disorder - its the best feeling in the world!

Though, it's a terrible condition for those who have a face blindness and a memory loss, it's also a living hell for their close people. Not only it hurts physically to be attacked because the person thought you are a bulgar, but it also hurts emotionally. It's such a soul pain to see, that you are always a stranger for someone you love. To be forgotten - it's a torture. Few minutes before his death he finally recognized me: my face, my name - his last gift I am grateful for after so many years. Thank you, for remembering me...

So who was the man in the truck posing as Julia boyfriend? That’s why they went back inside once Alfred mentioned he saw the same vehicle last time he was with Laura.... maybe Julia was being stalked, maybe she broke up truck guy to pose as Laura , or maybe she dated him too. I only doubt the relationship with truck guy bc off the scene on the swings she was holding back tears while she sat on the swings after Alfred took the pic when she said reeves my face. She didn’t post the passing truck any mind. The truck only became relevant when Alfred mentioned it.... What are your thoughts guys???

@richardbonnette4905 жыл бұрын
But, they're not ... didn't you read the replies under the comments on questions about this? It was the boyfriend that killed her, because he thought that he was being cheated on. The nod of approval at the end was not a point to put the face-blind person (Alfred) in jail, but to arrest the boyfriend who killed Julia (who is also Laura - just with a wig - that's why the detective hands the last picture that shows Julia without any hair). The flashing picture of the man which Alfred saw - it WAS Alfred, but he didn't kill Julia. He was only in the room and merely saw his own reflection. That's why the detectives were so disappointed - he did not see the killer, he only saw a reflection of himself in the room. The important scene that wraps this mystery is the truck which Alfred remembers behind Laura, because the detectives knew that the boyfriend saw Alfred with Julia with a different wig, and he thought he was being cheated.

I know, I think about that all the time! I would be a terrible witness because I have a hard time with faces. So often on TV, the witness is like, "I glanced out my peephole and saw him run by!" and the policeman's like, "Would you talk to our sketch artist?" "Sure!" (That is actually a real example of one I saw on TV, btw.) How anyone can describe a person's face after seeing them one time- usually days or weeks earlier- is beyond me.

I have this condition, I can only recognize people that are unique, I’ve even been confused in public when I see someone who looked my my mother or other people I’ve known a long time. I make up for it by recognizing things like voices, but mostly by the way people move. So I can actually pick someone out in a crowd from very far away by the way they move or walk if I know them well, and like in this video I would remember the car, although when the detective hands him the 2 pics at the end I would most likely have a hard time knowing that it was the same girl in the 2 photos. I saw a Freind and customer of mine that I’ve known well for about 15 years (and had seen 2 days earlier) in a grocery store one day but he was wearing scrubs, instead of what I usually see him in, he walked up beside me and was looking at me, so I walked away feeling that I’ve seen him before (which I always do) but not wanting to try to figure out who he was. I went to his house a couple days later and he asked me what the deal was and why I walked away from him..... that was fun to explain to a doctor that I’ve known for so long...

wouldn't he have recognized her voice the first time she met him with a wig on as "laura"?

of course he would, there's so many more things about a person than a face

Voices are not very unique. He would've never suspected it to be Julia, so would've associated the voice he's hearing immediately as Laura's voice.

Plot twist, Julia is the Inspector. Alfred is just THAT bad at recognizing people.

Retro radio I'm partially faceblind and I am great with voices. However, someone pointed out ti me that Laura and Alfred seemed to mostly talk online, and maybe she tried to change her voice a bit the time they did meet in person.

She didn't have any other boyfriend. That's the point of the short: the boyfriend she had was the protagonist. She contacted him online and told him she had a boyfriend but she was talking about him, because he broke up with her because he didn't want to hurt her, not because they didn't love each other. The guy in the truck was a stalker. She didn't change her hair or smell changed for the stalker, the only way she is related to him is by being the victim of the crime. They guy in the truck murder her. That's it. :D
@trevorlambert42266 жыл бұрын
If the guy in the truck was just a stalker, then even the film makers are unaware of it, because in the end credits he's listed as her boyfriend.
@cl-kb7xy6 жыл бұрын
It's really not a big mystery, the boyfriend killed her, was witnessed fleeing the scene, but because of Alfred's condition, we, and the cops, doubt he even saw anything. Too bad for the murderer, he can recognize pickup trucks. The bf's about to be arrested.

Oh man... as someone who has a ton of trouble with recognizing faces myself (though not nearly as bad as Alfred’s case), this video was really hard to appreciate fully (though I appreciate it in concept)! The music, tone, and early relationship between Alfred and the inspector made me keep suspecting that there were multiple inspectors trying to set up Alfred (since the inspector kept leaving the room and I couldn’t tell whether it was the same person who was coming back), Alfred also looked completely different from how I thought he was supposed to at one point, and at the end, I couldn’t see the “clear” similarity between the photographed faces beyond the similarity that people of the same gender and race might share!

Reading the comments makes one realize why such sh*t movies are typically successful. This little masterful short is completely over the heads of more than 50% of the audience... many of whom either totally missed critical scenes or misinterpreted everything that happened. Bizarre. How do such people hold their attention to a screen for an entire full-length film? How much of it do they miss by looking away from the screen... and then say they don't get it? How many friends have an impossible task trying to explain the plot after exiting the theatre? How do they decide whether they think it is a good movie? I'm just dumbfounded so many times by the audiences of these short films posted by Omeleto. Not to mention the fact that, despite full credits at the end of every film, comments consistently applaud Omeleto (Allen) for making all of them. OMG. I don't understand how the world functions. Or maybe it's more obvious why is doesn't.
