I went out metal detecting the other day and ended up stumbling across this spot!! I mean they're not huge crystals or anything but still an awesome find!! I think this'll be an awesome spot to check out this winter and do some real work to see if I can find where its coming from!! Hope you all have a great weekend!!😁

It's so cool that you can find those beautiful crystals in the quartz veins. There is something very satisfying about watching and hearing you chisel those rocks apart to find the glittering treasure! The scenery there is stunning. Thank you for including the setting in which you are prospecting. Great video!

Thanks!! Its such a cool area down there!! not many people know about the pathway down there either so its nice and quiet too aside from the boats. It's pretty cool to have found dravite though, its not very common in BC and I've only really heard of one other area!!😃

I was super into rockhounding when I was younger but there isn't any clubs around where I live. There was no way to see what could be found around here so I pretty much lost hope in it until I was about 17 when I found some rockhound groups on Facebook!! eventually I found some BC prospectors who took me under their wing and helped me learn, that's pretty much the story😅

Another awesome video! i always look forward to your videos, because you are so good at identifying the rocks and minerals in your area, and there are just so many! Your finds today, were outstanding! The pieces you took home and cleaned up and got better pictures of were amazing! That dravite tourmaline on quartz was amazing! All those little tiny crystals! And the one slightly bigger terminated crystal was really nice! All in all, it looked like a really good day! its nice to see the snow melted and your fingers not frozen! That area is just so beautiful, and even more so now that the snow is melted and its so green now! Thank you for taking us along on your adventure! The scenic views at the beginning were spectacular!

Thanks!! It's so nice that spring is finally here, the snowmelt has been super slow this year!! This is definitely one of my favorite trails to hike around here there's not many people that know about it so its nice and quiet. I'm hoping I'll come across more veins in that area, like I said the boron usually comes from surrounding rock and is concentrated in these veins so there is a good possibility for more!!😁

Still pulling copper out of the woods here and there to this day. Glad you got some useful information out of this video, I try to share what I can as I learn. I haven't been all too active on this channel lately but I've got a line up of videos from my last trip to edit. I love black tourmaline but had no idea that there were different types of it! I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos, so thank you. I have several different pieces, smaller and medium sized, that I have bought. I would love to find some though, they mean more to me when I can find rocks and crystals myself. You sure do have a beautiful area to explore and find amazing rocks, crystals and minerals. I really like the muscovite sheets and quartz too. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures!✌️🤠

Thanks!! Tourmaline is quite a large group and is usually classified by the metals and minerals it contains. Dravite is a sodium magnesium variety while schorl is the sodium iron variety!! The type most sought after are the lithium tourmalines where you get all those crazy colors and are usually the most gemmy!!😁

Your "Dravite" Looks more like Schorl which is black...Dravite is a brown Tourmaline :) Great videos Liam
@NWRockExplorer
@NWRockExplorer 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! Some of the tourmaline is slightly translucent and has a brown color to it, most of it is quite dark though. There is definitely some schorl along with the dravite too, its a bit of a mix. I think schorl is usually opaque too right? Still want to get out there to explore some more, this spot is actually right in town so I may let some other local rockhounds know where it is so they can explore it a bit too and maybe somebody will come across something even nicer!!

@@NWRockExplorer ...Liam Maybe in the future you could do a macro to super macro pics by back lighting the mineral in question.On the crystal edges to be able to discern the brown colour of Dravite. On the Blu Starr in the Slocan Valley, The Schorl was opaque but... on the edges with the sunlight they were bright red ! :)

@@mosessgoldenberg That's really interesting!! Yea I've heard that lots of schorl can have color if it is thin enough. at what point does it become a dravite or any other variety though? I'll definitely have to get some pics with lighting the next time I go out there🙂

Hi from Vancouver! Wow! I had no idea a person could find tourmaline in BC! I wear black tourmaline every day and am acquiring pieces to keep near me due to all the emf's. It is one of the absolute best crystals for grounding, protection and dispelling negative energies and frequencies. Nature has put it together with quartz which will amplify the tourmaline properties. Watching your videos always makes me proud to live in BC. It's so gorgeous. What area of the coast are you?
@NWRockExplorer
@NWRockExplorer 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! There's plenty of black tourmaline around but other varieties are much more rare, I haven't heard of much dravite being found in BC yet as it is a challenging mineral to come by. Black tourmaline also known as Schorl is the most common as it is the sodium iron variety. Iron is very common in nature so it makes it easier for the minerals to gather and form crystals😁

"Dravite" is black tourmaline that is brownish-dark orange when light is put through it, black tourmaline that is opaque is "Schorl". This is all Dravite. I have both Dravite and Schorl Tourmaline. What I have the most of in my collection though is Quartz based gemstones and Feldspar based gemstones

if you need to know anything, and want to ask me for any info I have or any of my own experience, feel free to just reply to a comment and I'll respond back. Like if you can't find anything specific on Google or something. I know quite a lot about your most known gemstones like Beryl, Corundum, Tourmaline, Quartz, Feldspar, etc etc. but I know less when it comes to things like Anatase or Jeremejevite or Benitoite and more rare species like that. I can still help though because I've been collecting and studying gemstones and minerals (gemstones mostly) for maybe 15 years and I have been collecting since I was 5 years old. Searching multiple sites on the Internet is a good way to go though. I usually go through around 8 to 10 different links to websites before I successfully identify something or get the information I need, but it works 99% of the time.

I couldn't really say for sure where you'll find it, I know there are locations that are claimed that have some tourmaline. It will generally be found in pegmatites in metamorphic or intrusive igneous rocks. these tourmalines weren't on record anywhere as far as i know so sometimes you just get lucky. Best of luck!!🙂
