Have you ever lost your phone? Had a computer stolen? Worried about someone accessing your device without your consent? Losing a device can be catastrophic - especially if you store sensitive data on there. In this video, I'll talk about how to enable Full Disk Encryption to protect your devices from unauthorized access.

Definitely a good idea to wipe it down regularly, thanks!

Also about veracrypt containers for cloud backups: Cryptomator is the better choice for that for several reasons, because some key isse: If you are using cloud services, not all allows you to upload GB size files, some allows only 500-250 MB files >cryptomator can handle sliced ZIP files or even picture folders, on file level individually, but creating (more than avaible mounting letter) veracrypt files for the same reason is not so good (doable, but way more clicks)... (you can slice a veracrypt file also, but that has the "if one fails all fallen issue". Also if you have a e.g 4 gig veracrypt container, and you change 1 picture worth of data in it -as far as i see, but i might wrong on this- the whole file changed, so the whole 4gig, should be uploaded, resynced >> time and data-cap-fear.... But the best thing: all free, try it all, use the best!

on the point about using a fingerprint + password on a phone - most phones require you to type in your password after rebooting so you can strategically turn off your phone if you feel you need that extra protection

I have full PC encryption, you cannot even access the bios. Also full disk encryption and account passwords but also requiring 2fa. I'm kind of obsessed.with privacy and anonymity.

(Ok after relistening i realised i probably interpolated badly what i heard... sorry if yes, but i am leaving the comment after editing this in)...: Veracrypt's wipe mode is not a "shielding" method as an "other layer of encryption", its just rewrites the surface of the drive to hide the previous "deleted, but not overwritten yet" data. What you meant and want to combine is at 15:38. If you drop down the AES field, you can choose from multiple encrypting methods, and from their 2 level, or 3 level (maybe 4 level) combination of all avaible (and do benchmarks, to predict encryption times). That is against of the possibility of "future computers broke X algorithm". Also SHA-512 is avaible, depending on the algorythm-combo and 2-3 more. My only issue with veracrypt and what i wanted to do with it, but failed, is to be able to dualboot with both boot being ecrypted (and being windows...) One encrypted win, and other un-encrypted can work... Also the briefly mentioned "hidden volume" and the not mentined "hidden OS" could work, but not on some file systems (on windows)..... so i have to fall back to Bit-locker... or get a new pc to the other user.... or kick her out from my machine:)

I loved TrueCrypt, I have been meaning to try VeraCrypt for a while.

You definitely should. TrueCrypt ceased development in 2014 and was last audited in 2015. I would never use something that outdated. Who knows what security vulnerabilities may be lurking in it.

Is there a way on Android to not use the fingerprints for unlock but still have fingerprints registers for specific apps (such as bank and payment apps).

Not to my knowledge, same with iOS. If anyone knows otherwise, please comment here!

not sure about the entire android-world of phones but I have a 1+ device and in the privacy settings, under fingerprint options you can choose whether to use the fingerprint to unlock the phone or to just unlock certain apps[if you have enabled app locker for those apps]. so you can disable the fingerprint for the phone-unlock and just have the feature for certain apps you wish

@@TomBombadil009 Thanks for weighing in! My Lineage device does not have this option, so I think it varies from device to device.

@@TheNewOil yeah, I guess so. Because 1+ never had this feature earlier, I believe this was primarily because of the recent merging of 1+'s software with oppo's

Nothing that I'm aware of. For that I would recommend using one of the cloud services I talked about in my last video. Sorry.

I use option 1 but if I'm ever in a tricky situation I'll disable the fingerprint, & if I'm I sense something is about to go down, then I'll restart my phone. This way it requires the password as it's in the first unlock state. Also VaraCrypt has always been kinda garbage for me, on both my desktop (FX 8350) & my laptop (second gen ryzen 5), VeraCrypt seems to crash whenever I'm doing a CPU intensive task. VeraCrypt has never been reliable for me which is sad because I've really like to use it. I've used it a few years ago & thought maybe they fixed it so I reinstalled it on my desktop but it still crashes. I use it on my laptop & deal with the crashes as their occasional enough & I would prefer to ensure that my data is safe, but yeah VeraCrypt is not reliable, at least for me.

That's odd. I've never had any issues with VeraCrypt. If you have time, you should open some issues on GitHub to help them improve the product for others in your shoes.
