No! 5th wheels are not exposed to dirt or particles! You put that grease in the open all that dirt is just gonna gouge the metal

I'm with you. Grease is sticky and dirt will certainly stick to grease in the open. However, I've had great results with the AMSOIL Fifth Wheel Grease. Only time I noticed any wear was after a friend borrowed it. They split a boat load of wood and didn't apply any Fifth Wheel Grease. What do you use to lube your log splitter?

You again??? I find that instead of using oil or grease which just gums up the works and makes a frigging mess of bark and saw dust is to use a can of dry lube spray occasionally or NOTHING at all. geezz Splitting in the vertical position also keeps the rail cleaner and is easier too. Just ask my woman since she runs the damn thing half the time.

I agree. I typically split in the vertical position. Especially for the big stuff! Wish I could my wife out there more often. She's given me a session or two of the years but splitting wood is definitely not her priority. She expects split, seasoned wood in the wheel barrow parked next to the slider door. So she doesn't have to walk out to the wood pile.

@@officeroil-amsoil3463 Wife is 63 and I am 66. Wood shed is 225 ft from the house and we burn firewood exclusively for heat in the winter. She loads 3-- 5 gallon buckets and a cloth shopping bag every day. Radio flyer wagon 35 years old, to pull it to the house with. She also splits the bark off every piece of firewood with a 24" miners axe. She's worth about 3 men.

Nice! That's impressive commute to the wood shed. We heat our home with wood too and only turn on the heat pump as backup. It's a huge help with the electric bill. I hope to instill your wife's work ethic in my daughter. She's only 3 but she often helps work the lever on the log splitter. I simply say "up" or "down". @@pipedreams57

The Synthetic Polymeric Off-Road Grease (GPOR2), www.amsoil.com/p/synthetic-polymeric-off-road-grease-nlgi-2-gpor2/?zo=1649274 would be the next closest grease. However, it doesn't come in the convenient squeeze tube. I'm leaning toward one of our aerosols...

I have had my 30 ton for 4 years now and split 5-6 cords of wood a year. The rail still has the paint on it. PAINT. Does that tell you anything? Little or no friction from the ram to the rail to begin with. WHY grease a painted surface? LOL. Think about it there dip stick. If it needed grease a $2 tube of walmart lithium would suffice or a little chain and bar lube since a chainsaw is a necessity for cutting firewood to start with. Salesmen urk my a$$.

I'm with you. The Tractor Supply CountyLine 25 Ton Log Splitter is definitely and entry level log splitter and I feel lacks the quality of higher priced splitters. It does not have the additional ram and rail guide to prevent the friction that I've seen on the nicer makes/models. I wish it did and my next log splitter will definitely have one so I don't need to grease as often. May I ask, what make and model is your 30 ton?

Can't say that I've ever tried it. My understanding it's much different than the AMSOIL Synthetic Fifth Wheel Grease. Fluid Film maybe much closer to AMSOIL Heavy-Duty Metal Protector (AMH), www.amsoil.com/p/heavy-duty-metal-protector-amhsc/?zo=1649274. It leaves an amber wax like armor film that locks out water, salt, humidity, etc. HDMP it not as focused on lubrication but rather corrosion protection. Once it's dry, it leaves an incredible film. I've always considered trying it on my log splitter.
