HOW TO SERVICE THE COUNTYLINE LOG SPLITTER - #35

Today we are doing something a little different. I'm changing the engine oil, and the hydraulic oil / filter in the countyline 25 ton log splitter. We will check the spark plug, clean the dual element air filter, and do a visual check of the unit. I couldn't find much on KZbin about this topic. So I did some research, read my manuals, and decided to make a video to help others who might be visual learners like myself. Hope this helps someone out.

Thanks for the tip on the hydraulic filter! and doing the research for us! Just bought my first log splitter and wouldn't have thought to pay attention to the difference between the micron filtration, but totally makes since. I paint cars and with paint you have to have proper micron filter to filter certain metallic paints and thicknesses of different types of paint. Thanks for the video!

Tip on how to avoid the draining the engine oil mess-been there, done that. Measure the length from the drain hole to the end of the frame. Get a small piece of black pipe just 3/8” past the frame. Thread accordingly into the drain hole and put a cap on the other end. Now when you change oil, the drain is past the frame=no mess. Worked for me!

Great video. I have the same splitter. I have done about 30 cords with it. I serviced mine last fall. Good info about the hydro oil filter. I got mine at tractor supply when I bought it, knowing that I wouldn't have to run back for it after 25 hours of use. That filter was a bigger to get off. first I broke a harbor freight filter wrench, then fought with the biggest set of channel locks I have to get it off, careful not to break the mount housing. My 15 year old son learned some new words that day.

Just picked up this same splitter the other day. Same situation. The guy only had it for a short time. The paint is hardly worn off. Wish I only paid $600 ($1150 I think it was a great deal considering they are 1699 now). Hit it with the power washer and did a service on it. I'm not a fan of the dipsticks on this unit. I missed the part in the manual where it said to let it overflow.I fiddled with it for a little bit. I'm pretty impressed with its performance so far. I'm gonna order up an hour meter for it. I've been watching your channel for a little bit now. Great content!

Great video and thanks for the info about the hydraulic filter. It's really easy to let the hours on the splitter get away from you before you do maintenance so this is a good reminder to do everything. I have the 35 ton Huskee splitter from TSC that I also bought slightly used from a guy who used it one season and then moved to a house without a fireplace or wood stove. I'm also planning on adding an hour meter and an in-line fuel filter. Stay safe and healthy!

Great how to video on servicing your log splitter. One suggestion I can make that eliminates the guess work about when to service your splitter. You can buy cheap "hour meters" on amazon to track your splitters operating time. These meters run about $5 each. I just installed one on my splitter and they work great. No battery or power hookup is required. You just wrap the inductive pickup wire around your spark plug wire a few times. Then double stick tape or screws to mount the display on you engine. Whenever the spark plug is firing the meter tracks the time.

Hi Brad. Good video. However, the manual says NOT to screw down the hydraulic fluid dipstick when checking the level. Just sit it on top of the fill hole. Otherwise your level will be too low. Also, I would have liked info about the breather cap and getting air out of the lines. Rich

Awesome splitter! 600 bucks what a steal! We got it on sale for over double that. Only thing i dont particularly care for is chips loading up at end of stroke. Real fun digging them out if don't keep on top of it.

Hi Brad...in addition to performing the routine maintenance, I check the bolt tension on the engine plate and really, any other bolts that are part of the machine. The vibration can put you out of service in some situations...I've been there...LOL. I just installed a new engine on my old splitter, so I like to keep an eye on those engine bolts particularly. I do the same thing when servicing my push mowers. Good informative video... thanks for sharing!

Hi Brad. Thank you for doing this video. Even though I have a Yardworks 25-ton wood splitter, the setup of my machine and yours is about 95% the same. One of the BEST video on how to service and fill all the fluids. May I make 1 suggestion. On the side where your Hydraulic filter is, you might want to have a wood or metal board about 1/4 thick, just in case a log falls off the machine. This way it won't do damage to the filter or oil lines. Again, THANK YOU.

We had a nice chat about how the users/owners manual for the splitter was a complete joke when it came to maintenance instructions. I went down the exact same rabbit hole you did with regard to internet searches for the filter. But I got the oil changed today and will do the hydraulic fluid tomorrow. I have the same splitter I purchased in 2017 new at tractor supply. I’ve had a few issues while splitting 200+ cords with it. Ive had the entire engine fill up with water when I left it outside uncovered and don’t know how it gets in (my friends did the same thing). Ive had the engine quit running twice now and both times it was a lose rocker arm. Tightened it up and still going good. I also broke the control valve where it was sticking forward or back. I called service and they sent a new one as we’ll as a new filter just in case. For the money it’s a good splitter and has helped fund my eastonmade 12-22 on order.

I don’t know if you noticed or not but if you look at that bottom of the block on the engine there looks to be like a drain plug on each side of the block and the one on the left side looks like it is clear to drop oil straight down off of the engine.

Most small engines are not manufactured with engine oil filters. Typically filters are fitted on engines 14HP and higher

Great video for the Countyline splitter. My 28 ton is essentially the same. I have added a tach, hour meter so I know how much usage my splitter has. I plan on adding a hydraulic gauge on the return side to know when my 15 micron filter needs to be changed..

Did you mean 25 micron or are you running a smaller filter?.. just checking all the possibilities of operation before i pick mine up and start using it.

@@dadiehl04 15 micron for here in Texas. If you work in much colder temps the 25 micron would be better, in my opinion, due to increased return back pressure on system. With a low side gauge you can see how fluid temp effects return pressure…..once hyd fluid is warmed up, almost no return pressure. With cold fluid, I have seen 65 psi on return, which drops when temp increases.
