I had anti smash film fitted to driver and passenger windows as identified these as weak spot. Another really interesting measure is the Bearlock - fitted in gear box and locks van in reverse - about £450 fitted and can’t be overcome by thieves,

I have 3 of them mounts fitted to the outside of my van. Great bit of kit. First night after they were fitted, parked at work and they were set off. Checked footage and managed to stop a break in on one of our containers... 👍

​@PackTheVanAndGo I looked at the Vanguardian kit but a couple of things put me off. The noise when setting it and it needs a wifi connection to tell you it's been activated. Sort that and it would be ideal.

Camper Protect in Germany have chains which secure the front drivers, the passenger doors and the sliding door, as well as a disc lock for the sliding door for when you leave the van. Had them (and the cotter pin lock for the back doors) for 4 years so far and no problems. They take about 5 minutes each to fit and they give great peace of mind. Hope you and Archie have a great time in the Highlands.

OBD port attack is the fastest means of van theft mate. Put a Shield around it.

ive had 4 athroscopy on one side and 3 on the other , i was told they no longer treat new patients with athroscopy because they speed up wear and tear but if you have all ready had one sometimes they have to do another one , i had both my knees completely replaced when i was 46 and the same day . very unusual but because i was younge and fit enough , was inside for 2and half weeks as i could not even get out of bed first week as i never had a good leg to help stand , usually 4 days now but best decision i ever made , i was a cripple and thought why waite and loose my 40s and 50s to pain . im now 60 and there both doing fine . but moore important im pleased you are now being treated with the respect you deserve . would love to catch up over a pint and a van trip , i bought my van 7 days ago and going to see liam at coalition vans for a quote and might even see about roof rack at your place . sorry so long to read .😊

Most prolific van thieves would be put off, seeing that security is taken seriously. They want an easier break and take and not the hassle. Glad the doc gave you the ok for your knee, so you should be back out with the Archie again for adventures. My brother in law always walked with his knees bent and one day my dad asked his mum, did he have knee problems? She said no, he doesn't, just an irrational fear of walking upright that his knees would bend back the other way. So, nothing to worry about there Rob. 😮

Looks great - don't forget to let your insurance know as it may reduce your costs. I use a steering wheel lock like that, and even just that had an impact on my insurance premium. I'd hope all the measures you have in place should make a difference!

Get 5 small but bright blue LEDs fix 2 inside the front headlights and 2 in the rear lights, the 5th one goes into the sliding door, connect them up to a switch, you will need a control box so they flash , can be seen from far away chances are they will stop most folks before they get anywhere near the van

Knee sounds very similar to mine apart from the Arthritis bit. Mine was squeezing the cartilage to the outside and the back - so if I straightened my knee fully I was in huge pain as the cartilage was pushing on the nerves at the back - the knee would also collapse. I also had an issue with the Plica on the inside - its like a membrane that holds your kneecap in place when you are a child as its a fatty pad initially that then slowly calcifies - it should then let go of the knee cap - mine hadn't, so when the knee cap moved to the outside with the cartilage it pulled on the plica and made a popping noise as I walked and eventually became painful over time. I had Xrays then physio, they tried Ultrasound therapy - which lessened the pain and discomfort for a few hours, I also had some specific exercises to do to strengthen the ligaments etc, then I had a TENS machine which made quite a difference for a couple of days, then it would be back to the pain again. I had arthroscopic surgery 21 years ago (at Lincoln Nuffield), op took less than half an hour, I was in and out the same day, trimmed the plica membrane and did an anterior and posterior trim of the cartilage to tidy it up and put it back in its proper place. I was off work 3 weeks, on crutches the first two of those - the most painful bit was doing the exercises to maintain movement and help the swelling post op. I had to sit with my leg up quite a lot of the first couple of weeks, couldn't bend the knee fully for maybe 2 weeks, so I couldn't drive for 2-3 weeks after the op, mine was right knee. Sleeping was a bit uncomfortable - you'll need a couple of extra pillows, one for between your knees and one for under your bad knee if you sleep on your side, or one or two for under your knees if you sleep on your back. You won't be able to sleep on your stomach after the op for quite a while . Walking felt very weird on anything not perfectly level for a few weeks and I had to throw out some shoes/trainers etc as they were worn unevenly at the heel . A couple of months after the op I emigrated here, was fine all the way to NZ on 28 hours of flights, then got the worst seat possible on the last leg and my knee swelled up and took quite a while to sort itself out. Has been fine since then. Hope you get something sorted for your knee soon.

@@PackTheVanAndGo Yep, not too bad here, Summer is coming! Knee problem was caused by a car with the accelerator pedal at a weird angle, used to get cramp in my knee if I drove for more than an hour - hated that car! I've had Autos ever since, much easier on the knee.

Visible deterrents for me are the best deterrents which will hopefully put off a scumbag wanna be thief, after that you can go as wild as you like. I often use an endless strap between the 2 front door rests as well. Like you I also have a credible tracker and good steering wheel lock fitted, plus an inside camera. My next job is to secure the side door once I’m inside. For the outside I want to fit a lock which I can lock when I’m away from the van… We had a fantastic 8 week tour of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides last year, so know how excited you’ll be… Good luck with the day surgery … 👍🍻

Yeah mega happy with the visible alarms and security! Hopefully it will do the job needed! I still have some more ideas I want to add for security and that inside for the doors. Slowly counting down the days now and cant wait for Scotland again! Hope you're well?

@@PackTheVanAndGo I’m still recovering from a fall back in mid August whilst cleaning the van roof. Ladder slipped one way and I fell the other way. Cut a long story short, I fractured my left hip, two ribs, and 2 spinal fractures. Spent two weeks in hospital… Hip is now sort of ok, but the ribs and spine are still recovering. Today my back has been very painful 😢 … In mid November we’re going away in the van for the first time since the accident. Looking forward to it, but in future the roof can wait !!

Get the CamperProtect door chains - easy to fit yourself and the back door plates came from them as well. Anti smash film also good idea but not cheap

Can’t remember if you have swivel seats? If so spin drivers around drill hole in plate and fit a motorbike wheel lock so seat makes it difficult to drive facing wrong way. Pull starter relay. Strap both front doors together. Security film on those front small door windows, ones they tend to break to pop the door handle to open .

@ also that rear pin door system, also has one for the front doors that latch to seat belt bolt so can’t open front doors, then drill a hole in the sliding door rail and put a padlock through so can’t get in the side door either !

Excellent sounds like you where well looked after at that hospital.and you seam to be more at ease with what the specialist said to you great stuff.I’ve been waiting since June to see a physiotherapist for my right hip but hayho!.getting there with the van,just researching for front and rear dash cam etc.thank you I’ll check out your links.funny just prior to watching this post I watched the mispronounced adventure’s post he’s just put up about his new system.a lot to consider 🤔 security wise I’ve got steering wheel lock and just took delivery of a bulldog wheel clamp.I’ve also got armour plat central locking on all doors and a wee tracker.thinking about the company theft stop also.👍

Great ideas bro, as you know i have the blink cameras inside and outside all around and really are a good system with remote access and you can talk to the scum and scare them off, so with them all pointed at each other we should be safe. now stop mucking around and lets climb some mountains again. 👍👍👍👍
