I've had to repaint my trees two or three times but I haven't had problems with rabbits or ground squirrels I just make an oil spray from habaneros and ghost peppers I spray them on the wood chips so far for about five to 6 months I've got them to stay away but I do like that paint it looked really white and nice

If i can ask, how do you make the pepper oil to spray?

Hey Pamela. We've done something similar with cayenne in a foliar spray and had some success. Glad to hear it's lasting that long for you in the woodchips!

We’ve used IV Organic and it’s a great product but switched to Bark Pro Trunk Protectors this year for extra protection to stop the rabbits and other pests. We also spray the Bark Pro Trunk Protectors with castor oil and spread cayenne pepper, black pepper and ground up home grown red chili pepper on them. Great info and thank you for sharing.

Hey Daniel! We are looking forward to seeing how this works for us. We have been using the tree protectors similar to the Bark Pro and really like those on the trees with a taller trunk. Cayenne pepper has worked good for us as well, just a lot of trees to cover lol!

Hey William. We're looking forward to seeing how this performs. We're testing it for a couple of different issues we've come across where a product like this can help. The biggest challenge for the trunk wraps is the limit on the size of the trunk. I suppose it will work really well for your potted trees as they will stay a bit smaller. Ours already have 2-3" diameter trunks and they're less than 2 years old!

That does look great. I favor lime and water, but some essential oils is good and definitely that they put DE in it. I will tell family up in the penna swamps about IV, because does (deer) and wild rabbits will gnaw the lime off the trunks. Coal mining country, and sulfur is common. Soil Ph is about 6, if memory serves. I keep getting told to ship all the caliche I can :) IV is good people.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm3 жыл бұрын
Hey Martin. It's funny how we can get into a rut and assume everyone deals with alkaline soil. If only it were more economical to ship soil, because we could just use each other as a resource and balance the playing field! Then again, our alkaline water seems to do a good job of restoring that "natural" state pretty quick!
@marschlosser45403 жыл бұрын
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm I remember someone on the radio saying that. I wrote to him and said, "Why pay a dollar a pound to send for soil when I can make my own?" He was joking, but liked it :) I like Gabe Brown's talks on taking his 1.2% carbon soil to 11% in a few fields. They get a ton more water up in SD than we do, averaging 16". But, thanks to grazing covers, his topsoil now extends down several yards. Because of caliche, we need to work for the same results.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm3 жыл бұрын
@@marschlosser4540 I'm hoping to see similar results, although we're still trying to figure out the right animal for the space. We're leaning much more heavily towards goats and sheep given the smaller land mass.

Do you guys get Golphers and if so how do you protect your trees? Or do you know of any trees that the Golphers don't like to eat?
@TheFatTheist3 жыл бұрын
I had tons of gophers. The only way to protect your trees is to kill the gophers. I killed all of them and now I have a nice yard. Prior to the last one getting caught they were a terror. Figs are their favorite. Pomegranate and mulberry seemed to be ok even when we had the gophers.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm3 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, we feel your pain with those gophers! The issue we're dealing with on this tree is primarily rabbits, but we're hopeful it can help with a few different pests. It looks like one of our subs responded below and I have to say it's probably your best bet as well. We've come to trying to reduce the population as best we can until our natural predators can help us do that naturally. One other option that we use are plastic trunk wraps. We've used them with good success for our taller trunk trees.
@GardenloveHomestead3 жыл бұрын
@@TheFatTheist Thats what I've read. My property came with a few citrus and a pomegranate. They seem to be okay but the citrus are mature. I just installed a pomegranate with out a cage hoping the theory is true.. all the other trees I've been installing have been with cages but it's so much work.. how did you kill them?. I have a very large garden we just redo a 90x30 hillside garden. And they are getting in there. I have multiple videos on if you like to check it out. I'll be interested in knowing how you kill them.

@@GardenloveHomestead There are some traps that you can buy at the box stores that work really well. They are little green metal traps with a plate that will release the pinchers when the plate is knocked loose. It closes on them and usually breaks their neck. When you find an active hole you just dig it out a little bit and stick this down in the hole as far as you can. Then they will trigger it. I always attached a string to mine so I could pull it back out. Between this and poison I got them all. They will ruin a garden in no time. I had tomato vines 5 feet tall and they killed about 6 vines over night! There is no co-existing with gophers. You either get rid of them or get rid of the garden.

I am in Nevada. I have tried the IV product, and I was not satisfied, especially considering the price: $200 - $300 per gallon, depending on container size. It would only last a month or two on the tree, and require re-painting. Perhaps you will have better performance.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm3 жыл бұрын
Hey Richard! Thank you for sharing your experience with this product, we always welcome everyone's input and feedback. We hope to get more than a couple months of protection out of this, but we will make sure to let everyone know how it goes!

Good evening Duane and Lori… I’m kinda bummed out actually I’m bummed out for sure our pet rabbit girdled our 5 in 1 peace tree and our champagne loquat 😞 I just got down air layering the loquat… do you know if the IV Organics has work for the two of you? Have you noticed if rabbits have stopped messing with your trees since you applied the IV Organics? Or have you still gotten fruit tree trucks gnawed up by rabbits? I really look forward to any kind of positive feedback y’all might have…
@EdgeofNowhereFarm2 жыл бұрын
Hey there Eurice. I'm sorry to hear about those trees. Rabbits can be very destructive and we deal with them here as well. We've had very good success with the IV Organics keeping critters from munching on the trunks and I think it would be worth trying. Just make sure you reapply it every so often to make sure it keeps it's potency. Oh and be sure to use our discount code (EONFARM) if you're going to purchase it. Let us know how it does for you as this is a challenge for a lot of us out there!
