Protective dog barks at coyote until unseen ones howl back

Courtney is out walking her dog in Alberta, Canada when they come across a lone coyote. Courtney's dog protectively barks and growls at the coyote, which in turn howls back. Suddenly, multiple howls can be heard coming out of the woods, indicating that there are more coyotes ready to backup the lone coyote. Courtney and her dog quickly walk away as fast as they can without running.

You are in its territory. See it scratching at the ground like it just peed or something. It yipping out to tell his friends that there is an intruder in their territory. Also two coyotes can make their vocals sound like there are several of them, and make it sound like it’s coming from all around.

We have wetlands behind our house, and coyotes are out there all the time. They are fairly fearless. I carry pepper spray when I walk the dogs and have bear spray on hand when in the (unfenced) backyard.

That would be a scary moment to be surrounded by a pack coyotes. This happened to me once at about midnight and I was walking on a road in a small neighborhood and there was a field and a wood line and they were all right in the wood line and my dogs just sat there and looked in the direction. They try to lure you're dogs out so they can kill them.

I think wolves do the same. Although I’ve seen videos of people leaving their dog out at night a pack of wolves just comes up to the dog and grabs it breaking the chain it’s tied on carrying it off into the woods to eat the dog. One of the dogs was a German shepherd the wolves did that too.

Once I went on a run by my old house at around 2am and I lived close to a reservoir and a park and let me tell you. Seeing a pack of 6 coyotes was the scariest thing I’ve seen. Only thing I had to do is put my arms up like a bear

That's such a creepy feeling hearing the mob that's hiding in the tall grass. Glad she's got a Great Dane on the end of that leash. Probably wouldn't hurt to have a Glock or some such on her waist though. Who knows how many are back there?

Some bear spray is probably sufficient. Doubt many people would train for keeping a greeat dane on a leash under control while shooting at multiple coyotes at varying distances under duress. A shot gun might be more successful an option. But so would bear spray.

Coyotes will come out in day light as seen here to chase away another K9. There are several times a years that they are more likely to do this. Mating and whelping seasons This is used against coyotes, by hunters like myself that use "Trained Hunting Dogs" to decoy the coyotes into the open so it can be killed and prevent this from happening and protect livestock and deer/wild turkey populations. Coyotes in the Eastern United States are an invasive species and can be hunted year round.

The irony! I watched this video after doing a Google search "can coyotes bark like dogs"....because i just ran home from a walk with my own Blue Great Dane after hearing a group barking. Usually only hear the packs of coyotes here doing their yips and yodeling. Wondering if its not a pack of mixed coy dogs or whatever they're called. Scared me half to death, as ive been chased even with 3 Danes. They have become so brazen and attacked a few hikers in my area

That was a female coyote, she was most likely in heat, She was there as bait, to lure your beautiful dog into the trees...... Seriously, coyotes are "precious babies," until they rip apart YOUR precious baby. That's the thing these people need to keep in mind. I work security, and so many people walk their dogs at the abandoned college I work at. I literally just heard that "bark-howl," call about 30 minutes ago. There's coyotes up here, and they've been getting ballsy. I thought it was a dog, until I searched up coyotes barking.
