Progress versus risk
Chaos and control
A sluggish titan’s brisk
Descent international
A completely unremarkable excursion across the ocean
Caught the eye of the world
Technology expanded rapidly with great devotion
From the sky, from the world at large
There’s fire on both sides of the door
And fire’s a good disciple, but wicked master
Paralyzed in time
Colourized and brilliant
The future paradigm
Would prove to be resilient
A completely flawed analysis of future tech’s tenacity
Caught the eye of the world
As their hopes and dreams took fire right before their eyes
Winds of change blow the whole worldwide
With the swiftness of a flash
It was captured in a photograph
When transitory memory became permanent
And we remember always
As they pour us into molds
We remember because
We’re malleable as gold
Fireball and tower
Conceal the swastika
Which might have served to sour
Our desired erotica
A completely overlooked detail
Omission is deception
Retract, denied by the world
Emblazoned on the rudders
And plastered on the tail
It might have caught the eye of the world
The bigger things that I cannot remember
The little things that I cannot forget about when I’m alone in bed
A picture might make my memory better
No matter how much I might regret the fact, it gets into my head
So take my picture, I’m decomposing
Make it a solemn silhouette
Cause this time is no different
It might help you not forget my feeble voice
So take my picture as I burn
And print it out for all to see
Because words are wind
But image impacts our collective memory
So take my picture, I’m decomposing
Make it a solemn silhouette
Cause this time is no different
It might help you not forget
So take my picture as I burn
And print it out for all to see
Because words are wind
But image impacts our collective memory

The albums theme is History. This song is about the LZ 129 Hindenburg, the disaster it had ensued, how History is shaped and Nazi Germany in the late 1930s. | Lyric explanation | V V ------------------------------------------- "Progress versus Risk Chaos and Control A sluggish Titans Brisk Descent international" First two lines could be interpreting the era the Hindenburg was built, 1936. A time of *Progress* all over the world, including Germany, with the increase *risk* of *Chaos* *and* *Control* (Great Depression+The Nazi Party). Last two lines are referring to the Hindenburgs *brisk* departure and *descent* to an *international* location (America). It departed from Frankfurt, Germany and was to attempt docking at the Naval Air Station Lakehurst, New Jersey USA. ------------------------------------------- "A completely unremarkable excursion across the ocean Caught the eye of the world Technology expanded rapidly with great devotion From the sky, from the world at large" The Hindenburg had already been in commercial passenger service since March 1936, first launching at Friedrichshafen, Germany. When it had left Frankfurt on May 3, 1937, the trip itself to New Jersey was really *completely unremarkable* . It was just another trip for the Commercial passenger-carrying airship, though it was still an impressive feat to cross such a distance in a vehicle that was fairly new at the time (the Zeppelin was first created in 1900). So, it didn't fail to *catch* *the* *eyes* *of* *the* *world* . Technology expanded rapidly all over the world during the 1900s. From airplanes to all other inventions across the world. "From the sky, from the world at large" ------------------------------------------- "There’s fire on both sides of the door And fire’s a good disciple, but wicked master" If they're referring to *fire* in a *literal* sense, my explanation would be; *Fire* is a very useful tool under Human control, a *good* *disciple*. Though once it's out of our control, its own *master*, it becomes *wicked* and dangerous. If they're using metaphors, my explanation would be; There's *fire/struggles* on both sides of the *door/world* . The struggle: The Great Depression, 1929-1939. Though fire/struggles *are* good tool(s), they are *both* *wicked* when completely out of control. ------------------------------------------- "Paralyzed in time Colorized and brilliant The future paradigm Would prove to be resilient" The Hindenburg is now *paralyzed* in *time* with pictures and videos, all/some *colorized* and *brilliant.* The Hindenburg would live on to serve as a model for the *future* *pattern/paradigm* of commercial airlines that would eventually *prove* to be and become more *resilient* ------------------------------------------- "A completely flawed analysis of future tech’s tenacity Caught the eye of the world As their hopes and dreams took fire right before their eyes Winds of change blow the whole worldwide" The Airship is now seen as a *flawed* *analysis* *of* *future* *tech's* *tenacity* because back then, it was truly a spectacle and was seen as the future of air-travel. The United States had major Helium reserves that they had used for their ships. Although, with the world political and economic conditions not being very great at the time, since WWI had just ended. As a result, the United States (being the main source of Helium at the time) created the Helium Act of 1925 which completely banned the export of Helium from the US, forcing the Europeans to use Hydrogen. Which unlike Helium, was flammable. And *As* the worlds/inventors *hopes* *and* *dreams* *took* *fire* , the winds of change had blown across the entire world. For the era of the airplane had taken over. ------------------------------------------- "With the swiftness of a flash It was captured in a photograph When transitory memory became permanent And we remember always As they pour us into molds We remember because We’re malleable as gold" The disaster was caught *swiftly* on *photograph* and the memory of those lost will not be forgotten. "When transitory memory became permanent" is referring to how temporary bits of history have now become permanent due to how its presented in educational systems. Educational systems serve as ideological apparatuses that shape our understanding of the world, thus *pouring* each of *us* *into* a *mold.* Something as simple as what image we are shown or what is in that image can drastically change our understanding of history. *Gold* is the most *malleable* metal, meaning its the easiest to shape and hammer into pieces. The same could be said about Human Memory and how our interpretation of historical events are easily shaped by the way in which those events are presented. ------------------------------------------- "Fireball and tower Conceal the swastika Which might have served to sour Our desired erotica" This is a direct reference to this image: media.gettyimages.com/photos/the-german-zeppelin-hindenburg-explodes-at-the-mooring-tower-at-new-picture-id97277872?s=612x612 The *fireball* of an explosion and the mooring *tower* the Hindenburg was passing by, concealed the presence of the Swastikas on the tail rudders of the airship. To which the photo itself, angle and all, *could/might* have been purposely *served* or taken to *sour* or ruin the worlds desire for the Airship. ------------------------------------------- "A completely overlooked detail Omission is deception Retract, denied by the world Emblazoned on the rudders And plastered on the tail It might have caught the eye of the world" If you ask someone what they remember/know of the Hindenburg, there's a 50-70% chance they'll just tell you about the crash. There are *overlooked* *details* in the Hindenburg that which the educational system fails to educate further on. *Omission* or a thing that has been left out is and can be *deception.* *Emblazoned* *on* *the* *rudders* and *plastered* *on* *the* *tail* was the said overlooked detail. The Nazi Swastika. Through hiding the Swastika in Historiography, the incident has been shaped in such a way that we don’t see it as either an image of the wreckage to come in World War 2 or as a warning of what Germany had become. Instead it becomes a little more than an image of overconfidence and the consequences of bad technological assumptions, an *Airborne* *Titanic* instead of a *Nazi* *Failure.* Maybe if the Swastikas were shown in more of the photos during the times of the disaster, it *might* have caught more *eyes.* ------------------------------------------- I have no explanation for the final few verses except this one: "So take my picture as I burn And print it out for all to see Because words are wind But image impacts our collective memory" So *take* a *picture* while history is happening, *print* or give it out for *all* *to* *see* because *words* travel like *wind* but *image,* whatever is captured in the camera’s lens or in the historian’s text, *impacts* our *collective* *memory* or how our history proceeds and is shaped. In this case with the Hindenburg, that means we remember the crash, and perhaps its impact on aviation, but we do not remember its ties to Nazi Germany. Thank you for reading and trying to understand. Hopefully this is accurate!

I was looking at the lyrics on Genius, when I realized, that the page has an api that displays the number of people seing those exact lyrics at the same time you are looking at 'em. I've been very fortunate in my life, having had a loving family, great friendships, and a caring partner to share and feel accompanied, but I have never felt anything like this before. Like being a part of a very select group, in a very small meeting, with lots and lots to discuss, doing just that, but in silence, without having to rise a single word. Knowing the quality of the topics there are in any and every PTH song, this "meeting" feels more like a family reunion, than a fan convention. So the fact is, these guys... They really did carved themselves some fine followers. (Praising myself here, yes, but I know we all feel the same so STFU and take the compliment). They did the same for anyone out there, as I feel I have for myself. Art, I believe, is the only thing that can make anyone feel fortunate to such extents. Just as this song, we, the collective memories of what they mean to us. So great ladies and fine gentleman here, thanks for that silent company, on those weary days, and those joyful nights. Thank you PTH for the background anthem for any and every big and little part of my life. Thank you Nate Rogers for those awesome "tutos" I watch whenever I feel like challenging myself a little further learning some spider-like blazing-fast guitar shit. And thank you kind reader, cuz although this comment ain't not here for likes, it feels good to know there's someone who genuinely feels this too. Greetings from Mexico. C ya all around guys.🤘🏼😎

I'm from Mexico, and I haven't had such opportunities, but I'm telling you, if I could... Naaah, WHEN I can, I will go see em perform (hopefully they'll still performing by then). I don't love the idea that I won't have the chance to see Arif with them, maybe for a while, or maybe at all, but still I feel like I at least owe them (whoever they play with), and of course, myself, to be present at a single show before they get to rest their performances. I love music, and I mean it. I can't stretch the thought enough. I'm a guitar player, not professional, but still, very deeply enamoured with the hobby. I never would have thought I could evolve my guitar skills as much as I have if I wouldn't have listened to that song (Clarity) on a friend's ride 6 years ago... Their trajectory... I'm really not kidding here... I have found myself in very tight spots in life before, most of them, genuinely my fault... But I've met so much wisdom in their ideas. I've grow to pursue a very balanced and although humble, very fulfilling life, and I truly feel I would be lost if not for their craft. Getting a little personal here, I feel I found them when I was at my worst. In contrast, right now I feel very humble for all I have made out off it. My bond with my beloved ones have recovered and is going stronger, I've grown like, a LOT professionally, I've made amends and beyond that, I've become a pillar and tutor for those who reached to me. I've inquired in the true meaning of trust, and it came with very unexpected results... I've basically learned to be grateful 🤔... And to carefully feel just enough confidence on my knowledge, so that I can aspire to better, greater perspectives moving forward. I mean, I know it was me the one changing and improving, but I feel I wouldn't have realized how arrogant, stubborn, and ignorant I was, if not for the challenge that, understanding their art, meant for me. Now that I have this much in my life, I really feel grateful for all they have inspired in me. Even when I don't agree that much with what they think or how they proceed (this, I really can't say it's even remotely often)... That music, and those lyrics (whatever song you pick), have influenced, and inspired so much of my personal growth. I love those beautiful minds and the fact that they're so inclined to humbly growing, and not just ageing... It just make me shiver I can share this much with someone, and I kinda know I'm not alone here (PTH fandom n.n/). Before listening to them, I can't remember the last time a single song have made me feel so much before. Not to mention an entire album or collection. I mean what they do, it ain't not just music. The artistry, the mastery, the intelligence, the cleverness, the irony, the presence, the poured feelings: regret, loneliness, joyfulness, hopefulness, anger, compassion, playfulness, deep regard, genuine heartbreak, and love they share, feel, and induce. It's all palpable. They really cultivate and develop themselves for every song. You can feel it. This might be stretching a little, but I think they are just as grateful to us, as we are to them. I completely understand why they like Propagandhi so much, and how the are influenced by them. I absolutely dream of the day I will go to a show. Let alone if I had the chance to talk with them, I think if that would come to be, I'll just explode in excitement... It almost makes me feel a little lonely that I'm basically the only guy in my entire community (as far as I have inquired) that enjoy this band and their work. I mean it. I know most of the topics they "protest" about in their songs, are common sense, or basic logic. But here in Mexico, and particularly in my beloved Morelos (as I'm sure it happens all around the globe), those ideas and perspectives contrast by a lot with what the people believe, and understand. I've found myself trying to great extents, to encourage people to exercise their right to cultivate themselves, of course, not for me, but for themselves, and for the ones they love and care about... Like, not even so they can agree on everything, but just so we can all stand on reasonable middle ground... But it's proven to be a very hard task, and this is basically what it boils down to, the reason I'm a little too busy to go check them perform right now, cuz you know what growing also means... With how much I've failed and lost along my life, and with how much I've reached and become to this day, I really feel a great sense of responsability and gratitude with those around me. To as much as they want me in their lives of course. So if Protest didn't gave up on their wonderful work, hopes and ideals, and they kept challenging themselves, rebuildind what they've mistaken and elevating what they were successful on... Well, what excuse can I even give? 🥰 For real, they inspire me that much. Hehe, but look, even if I don't know any other fan personally, I have a feeling that, thanks to these guys and what the have done, I don't need to know them at all to trust them with my heart. And that, jajaja, that I can not say very often. So yeah, I really love this band. All of them. And they mean a lot to me... I feel you fellow... ... Okey, having said that, and also while I was writing all this, it sparked a question in my mind... Do the PTH fandom have a nickname? (Pro)Testers? Heroes (arrogant much jajajaja 🤣, but rather accurate now that I think about it 🤔)? Villains Gone Lucky (Jajajaja)? Jajajaja Maybe we don't need a fanclub to belong... Knowing we're all there for each other might be more than enough. Lol, fuck nicknames! Anyways, it's been a joy to share this unnecessary long comment with you (and anyone kind enough to read all this gibberish 😆). And just to add up to all this.. For fuck sake, I can't wait for June 19th to come! Jajajaja. Now, see you around! 🤘🏼😎

@@silenttrivium My man had to relearn how to sing for this album basically, since his vocal cords got wrecked. They delayed this album a lot longer that they wanted to because of that and had to cancel the tour. While his ultra-highs might not be as ear-piercing as before (maybe that's because of the mixing?), but those high vibratos are probably the sharpest and cleanest he ever did. I used to love this band and their sound is still awesome, but I'm sick of the leftist bent. Don't get me wrong, everyone deserves rights and equality is good, but take Canada for example... this Canadian band hasn't realized that Canada is importing a million immigrants a year into a country of 40 million. We want to pump ourselves so full of immigrants that we will have 100 million people in 2100. it's so inconsiderate to Canadians, we like who we are and people don't want to live in a country of strangers, but that's what they're making for us. So it makes me sick to listen to this awesome band write propaganda in favour of the future abyss we're creating. it's really frustrating to see.
