Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's party suffered a crushing defeat in Sunday's local elections. Instead of introspecting, Erdogan seems to be trying to overturn the results. The winner of the mayoral election in the southeastern city of Van was removed from office. He was re-instated, but the battle seems to be far from over. Erdogan's party says the Kurdish mayor has ties to the Kurdistan Workers' Party. The Kurdistan Workers' Party is a designated terror group. But this is not a new accusation. In 2019, Erdogan's party ousted at least 52 opposition mayors, claiming they had ties to banned outfits. Kurds in Turkey fear this could be a repeat of last time. But all the Turkish opposition parties seem to be coming together to oppose Erdogan's tactics.

So first , there always has been conflicts near Jerusalem with the local population and people basically fighting over that useless "holy land" for more than 1000 years now, all of this isn't new. Always been this way in Turkey. Back then it was the 10% voting rule that was legislated to keep the Kurdish party out of the Turkish parliament until it no longer could because the Kurdish population had increased beyond that and now they're openly disregarding the election results. US and all the other western nations turn a blind eye to this because Erdogan actively supports Israel beyond closed doors even when he puts on a show for his base in Turkey, which is why his party AKP lost a lot of the votes to an even more Islamist party. Turkey-Israel economic unity is no secret to the voters.
