This one hit hard. I drive overnight one of the tour buses that bands roll around in. When I heard this song, I wrote the following to my son's, 17 & 20: When I'm up all night driving, I really get to thinking by the morning. Then I'm all spun from sleep dep and distance so I see things kind of clearly from last night's persepctive. So when I come across something brand new from an artist whose last album really inspired me, it hits different. The situation in Jamaica may have been Proteje's inspiration for this song, but the music made in Jamaica reverberates throughout the entire world. When I was a child, and I heard Bob Marley sing "Tell the children the truth," I knew in my soul this was a message worthy of my attention, especially over the lies being taught to me in the schools and churches about life and how to live in the footsteps of the honest and the divine. Listening to this music, I want to tell you, my children, that the truth is that Babylon has been constructed to make it easier to be miserable. Babylon is the school and the prison and the war machine and the corporations and the salvationist churches and everything that drives a person into only one of those directions; with no other options. I tell you, there's another direction. You're protected from everything except the karma, if you can find that alternative. A million is not what it used to be. The only investment you really have is the capital you invest in yourself by doing the work it takes for you to be living your life with joy and contentment. It's easier to be miserable and downtrodden. Life is better lived if you do what you can to fulfill your own desires as completely as possible. It's counterintuitive, but in my experience, that joy and contentment is earned through paying attention to the universe around you for the magic as it happens. When you notice it, follow it. It doesn't always make sense as it's happening, but it doesn't have to. Relax into the flow and glide where it takes you. Suddenly you're moving past all these people struggling so hard to paddle upstream. While they're working, you're flowing. Protoje is flowing on this track. My patois isn't great, so I'm missing a lot of what he's saying, but there's a vibe. Yes, it's a militant vigilante vibe because all those who are fighting to get into the prison/school/war/business/church are working to dispose of you by trivializing the divinity of your life into their system (shitstem). However, you will never win a war against the war machines using the weapons they're creating. You have to find a way out of, and beyond their situation. There is mana/karma/gods and it's the water we're flowing in all around us. In the end, the river is always stronger than anything holding it back and it will always flow to the ocean. You just have to go with the flow, not against it, and you'll find the river will always take you to the beach someday. Trust that.
