I have 100% completed this game, and I still think its perfectly fair. Enemies that go behind the wagon you can dodge, and enemies you let get behind you and start to chase you are your fault for letting them get behind you. With having no time to react, in general you want to hold a direction when you spawn. There are more times you will take damage for not running than running into something.
