This bootleg works... shockingly well. Like, a ton of bootlegs aren't even beatable because they just put a too-long jump that you can't make, or there'll be ABSURD hitbox issues (as opposed to this game's just-non-good-hitboxes). Fun Fact: As you mentioned, you can't roll off ledges and jump in this game, That was introduced in the sequel, Donkey Kong 4 Country 2. However the story behind that change is pretty interesting. So when making the Sequel, the dev team was in talks with Miyamoto who told them in broken English, "I want to roll off air". Obviously he meant that he didn't want momentum to stop on the ledge, and they did fix that, however it was late enough in development that no one caught that you could still jump out of a roll, even when midair. Thus it was left in and became an iconic part of the series, despite being an oversight. But during the development of DKC Returns, Miyamoto told Retro Studios, "keep in you can roll air", however no one knowing what that meant thought "roll air" was like blowing air, which is where the blowing mechanic came from (basically, shaking the controller to ROLL was why they thought Roll Air meant to shake the controller to blow air too).
