Review - Speedtest Of iZ Technologies Radar Studio

In this video for Pro Tools Expert, Technical Editor James Ivey takes a close up look at the iZ Technologies Radar Studio system. After a tour of the unit James runs two versions on the Pro Tools Expert Power Test Session on the Radar. Version one using an external USB3 interface and version two using the optional Radar Adrenalin ASIO interface. This test session really does sort the wheat from the chaff when it comes to machines that can put their power in the right places for Pro Tools. Watch and see how the Radar Studio gets on.

The real difference is the tascam run on outside bus usb3 and the Iz on a internal pci one making it faster the shared usb 3

Does not surprise me at all it is a fallacy in this day and age that PC's are not as good as macs for DAW work. I run cubase on a fairly quick PC and very rarely have a problem. Most of my mates run macs and I hear endless complaints.

So basically it's a Rackmount PC running a custom Windows 8 build ? Is that even legal ? Windows is a Closed-Source software, and I have never heard of Microsoft allowing any third party company to modify it for their own benefit... ...or it's just an overlay app, in which case you could save 1000$ by taking a regular PC and putting it in a Rackmount case for 30$ or so. (and spend that extra 1000 on buying the converters and preamps you want).

There's a bit more too it than that; the RADAR Studio is optimised for low latency and super-stability - the iZ conversion is superb and the internal components are matched to improve performance. It's not a regular PC - matching a regular PC with converters will not equal it, also there isn't a real cost-saving in buying separates at this standard of quality.

yea, exactly, the OS is completely optimized for Audio. They removed quite a lot of code lines. It is an OEM version, made to their specs. All for Audio DAW stability. They are obviously able to use some of that Adrenaline DSP with their ASIO driver. Its 24 Channels. We recently added the AES/EBU Stereo channels to the party with an 8Channel system.

It's RADAR not Radar... I used to have an Otari RADAR. I liked it. The new IZ converters sound good but not worth the money IMO. A new i7 6950 with Win 7 or 10 and a Mothership is the way to go these days. everyone knows this.....You will get 4x the performance over BEOS which is archaic and it sucks. I have no idea wtf 'Bullet proof' means with respect to PCs.... I don't get the analogy.
