Smaller spools, put the spools on the back of the hand instead of secured at the wrist. Second spool on forearm to the back of the hand to track flexion towards self. Bands connected to the palm-side balls of each finger running back to device on forearm to track outward extension of the hand and rotation. Programming be the real problem

Well hand tracking is something that many vr headsets already offer, and they do it pretty damn well. The Oculus Quest and Quest 2 for example have a feature where you can put down the controllers and only use your hands to select, scroll, grab, etc. It's really cool stuff, especially when you first see it, and you don't need a glove or anything.

That form of hand tracking is more of a party trick for demos than something useful in game (for now at least). It’s not just software issues no headset has hardware right now to make hand tracking worth while.

Well, you guys might not realize is that it's not just tracking all of his fingers and hands movements and positions perfectly. It's providing resistance so if he reaches out and grabs a door knob it will apply 9 G maximum resistance to each finger as soon as it's in the shape of what that door handle supposed to be. So he feels like he's actually touching it granted. Last I sent it was only 9 G or so but still that does a ton when it comes to all the holes that were once empty of immersion that your brain creates things to fill those spaces in and magic happens

@@user-RCST it would be interesting at the very least. My only concern is risk to the nervous system. If people control characters with nothing more that brainwaves then there would have to be a strong connection between the system and the brain, the system would have to be capable of accurately interpreting intent, which would require a device capable of influencing your mind and vice versa, who knows what shady people would be willing to do with that kind of tech.

I have an idea, if you're holding an object have the glove restrict movement in your fingers to simulate holding the object. Not sure how hard of a task it is or if someone has already mentioned it but it sounds like a great idea.

I believe they do have this feature, based on what I remember from his other videos. The small spools can lock up (I think) to restrict finger movement.

I have a quest 1 and, due to the inside out tracking and the positioning of the tracking “ring”, do you know if it would be possible to get this to work (w/ link of course)? This should work with quest, but due to inside tracking you may need to mount the controller sideways (so the ring is visible). I'm planning on testing this soon
