I've had the honor of not only being a Captain/Check Airman on the B-737-200 (Basic & Advanced), 737-400, and 737-800, but also wrenching on them as an A&P for 3 airlines. LOVE THEM! Thanks for this wonderful video. ps: Also B-757-200 Captain, and F.O. on B-737-300.

@glsole No probs man , Thanks for the info ... boeing has been having problems with Engine manufacturers .... Like when they were building the 777 , There first order of planes were 36 something 777's with Pratt & Whitney engines (idk the model no) But they were built for the Boeing 777 and those things had problems , When they fitted the engine to their 747-100 Test Bed , It had an engine surge for some reason .lol . Pratt & Whitney were turned down when they offer engines 4 the 787 ...

@lufthansa330pilot , For Long range . lol ... They had to be long because the aircraft was so low , If they had put the engines that are on the new 737's like 300 - 800 , it would have scraped the Pods .... So the engines were longer and in some case provided the same amount of power as the shorter ones ... because it's length makes up for the smaller diameter

But, these early 737's needed much improvement. In the inner circles of aviation, they were often referred to as "Dogs". At least one German airline Lufthansa was instrumental in making improvements. I knew this because my wife's father was crew chief on the delivery of the first 737 to that airline. Naturally progress in aviation is always ongoing...that was all to change as the 737 became such a major success and still is!!!

why is the 737-100/ 737-200's engins so long?

They are the old style low-bypass engines and have bucket-style reverse thrusters. Sorry it took 9 years to answer your question.

Those are turbo-jet engines....newer engines are turbo-FAN.

This took 10 years to correct you but it’s still turbo fan. Just really low bypass ratio
