If you are already going through all that effort, why not just design it as an unvented attic?

The simpler solution (next animation) would be to move the thermal boundary to the roof, as I think you are suggesting, but the roof can still be vented. Of course, roof venting is almost NEVER as simple as it seems like tit should be, but that is a whole nother topic, for which we have some edifying podcasts about.
