I agree, to a certain extent. But have you been to school? Have you ever read a book? Have you ever travelled? Have you ever been curious to discover something you didn’t know? These aren’t criticisms, just queries. Each quiz I do, I try to retain an answer I didn’t know before. I now have a head full of a lot of useless stuff, unless I play a trivia game, then hopefully I can contribute something when it’s needed. Just have fun with it and don’t moan because the question didn’t suit you, go and find out more about it. It’s like complaining about not knowing the Battle of Hastings, because you weren’t born then, so how are you supposed to know it was 1066?

You've certainly hit the nail on the head. Of the 50 here, I had about 12 wrong, but of those, I think that I actually only missed 2 or 3 that I once knew the answer, the others I never did. So in realty I had 2 or 3 true misses. However, if you ask me questions of a year ago, I'd probably fail most. To be honest I suspect dementia upon me, but maybe it's just old age. I prefer not to know 😬

I am an older person and have made the observation that it is not the short term memory so much but not focussing on the info presented which is not saved. This is then looked at a retrieval issue while I believe it is a savings issue. People do not always listen properly.

I am now in my 89th year and have a very good long-term memory. One of my most memorable long-term memories is standing in a field and watching the Battle of Britain over my head. I was 5 years old and, of course, had no fear.

I do not understand why this is looked upon as a memory quiz...if you never knew the answer to some of these questions then not knowing them now has nothing to do with memory. Yes, if I knew Ethel and remember Ethel now that is memory, but if I never knew when James Dean died then not knowing now isn't about memory as I never had the information to begin with...so, why is this referred to as a quiz about memory!?

My memory is still good enough to know that "good" is an adjective, so qualifies a noun. With a verb, you need the adverb "well"

I got 46 correct. Four years ago, I had 8 surgeries, and the huge amount of anesthesia I had destroyed much of my memory. I couldn't even remember how to turn a faucet on or off. I still have a lot of blank spots, but I managed to relearn so much of what I thought was lost forever. I don't know if I'll ever regain all of my memories, but I enjoy learning, so gaining new knowledge is always a WIN to me.

Got all the names right, missed.a few statistics and year dates. We got our TV in the early Fifties. We watched Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca in The Show of Shows and Jackie Gleason, Audrey Meadows and Art Carney in The Honeymooners. We watched the series of film footage from WW2, "Victory at Sea," with the Richard Rodgers score. We picked up Sputnik beeping over the US on our ham radios. Jack Kerouac wrote "On the Road," James Dean ran his car off the road, Allen Ginsberg wrote "Howl," and the '50s drew to a close.

When it comes to the tv questions I think you may have forgotten that there was a heap of us in Britain that did not tv’s in the 50’s. We knew about the world news from the radio. The American questions seemed unnecessary as the quiz seemed to be set for us Brits but guesswork got me through. Otherwise it was good thank you. But then at 83I did get 47/50. 😁

42/50 I did all right until near the end with the dates. I am younger than 80 but sometimes I have a hard time remembering dates of some events. I can pretty much remember who and where but unless it's an event that shook or shaped the world, the when is usually a guess.

Many' of these questions were about events that occurred when I was 9-11 years old in a different country to where I grew up. Not a test of memory at all but I managed to work some out using common sense anyway. I didn't keep a score but I'd say I scored between 35 and 40 out of 50. I am 82 years old.

I think YOU missed question number 14, as neither pantyhose nor mini-skirts existed until the late 1960's. (I was there, and recall when each came about)!

aznaamira: They weren't available in all area's at the same time. They finally showed up where I lived in 1965. They were market tested first and then slowly released throughout the rest of the country. Had to keep wearing stockings and garters until they finally got to where I lived. Remember the panties back then? They were like cotton balloons with elastic sewed into the waist and legs. Sometimes the elastic would break. Happened to my great-aunt while she was on the trolly. They dropped to her ankles. She stepped out of them, walked off the bus and never looked back. It was a different world.

I am sure we were aware of events in the US, especially the space actions and Korea as we had British troops in that war. I can get that some folks did not pay too much attention to race issues in the US : the UK had its own.

I am 4 mths past my 84th BD and my scored is 48. I have a vivid long term memory because I can picture things in my mind. My short term isn't near as good as it once was. There is longevity among the women in my family and great memory for the 90 yr olds. I hope for me the same!

Otherwise, the questions are so poorly framed and often subject to a process of elimination or choice of the only option that is remotely possible, that there is very little rigour here.

I got 48 correct and I just turned 77. Guess my memory is still intact, although there are a few things I'd like to forget. Anyway, growing up in the 50's was really different from today. Very strict, very religious and extremely racist. I withstood the strict and religious part, but I refused to acknowledge racism. I can't stand racist people. I never could understand what everyone was so upset about. I used to yell at my mother, EVERYONE IS .A PERSON. i was only 6 or 7, but that's how I felt, no one taught me that.

THE "EVENTS' MATTERED; Many of us didn't "care" what "EXACT" date it occurred! AND THIS TEST IS NOT A GOOD TEST OF MEASURING INTELLIGENCE, EITHER. ABILITY to remember to SOME is just " luckily having an excellent memory" of things that didn't even matter to the person being tested? Congratulations to those who ENJOY remembering DATES, BTW. ANSWERS would be greatly impacted by the SPECIFIC experience of the person being TESTED also. Statisticians ? Government Officials ? Law retirees , etc. ETC. UNFAIR, to demand the EXACT years of historical events; UNFAIR to demand exact numbers o f the POPULATION regarding a specific year or an event. UNFAIR to expect people to know the EXACT NAMES of inventors of "particulars" of the discoveries of DNA TESTS. A good question MIGHT have been; what era did Interpole become utilized by world crime investigators? Friends over their 80's whose memories are "sharp as tackS" wouldn't care to remember HALF of these questions. And their area's of expertise would and should, be considered a factor. Scientists and historians who don't' even LIKE music, would probably not remember ANY, of the musicians , composers nor singer ANSWERS.. OF COURSE WE ALL KNEW ELVIS'S special events. REMAKE THE TEST.
